I have based each composition on a well-known melody that parents often sing to their babies. Delighted parents tell us that their babies are happier and cry less when our music is played throughout the day.

Research reported in the Journal of Pre- and Perinatal Psychology concluded that mothers who listen to relaxing music actually experience less pain during delivery. Not only that, their babies experience less stress as well, based on interviews conducted with children years later.

In fact, Dr. David Chamberlain presented his research that contradicted a prevailing misconception (pun intended). It turns out that it may not be best to let mothers choose the music they like.

“Born in the USA,” by Bruce Springsteen, for example, was a popular choice because of its loud, thumping beat. “But no one asked the babies!” said Dr. Chamberlain. “Loud, pounding music hurts and frightens them.”

Music for Babies is exactly what the doctor, and babies, ordered. So it makes absolute sense to choose music that has been used for over 30 years, and proven to help listeners of all ages to relax. That’s the intention with which I compose my music.

Since I don’t have room here to share other important information you should know, please visit my website. I’ll have more extensive notes under my “Articles” and the Music for Babies page.

With love, Steven Halpern

“This music creates an ideal ambience that is conducive to promoting a feeling of safety and security. It fosters inter-family communication and expressions of loving feelings. It is suitable for all ages.”

— Dr. Virginia Satir, internationally acclaimed family therapist

Sound and Your Child’s Well–Being

Medical science has recently confirmed that babies respond much more dramatically to sound stimuli than was previously imagined. Thus, for happy and healthy babies, it is of vital importance that we provide a nurturing, soothing and harmonious sound environment. This is true for the baby as well as for the mother and father.

Research has recently proven what millions of mothers and babies already know: Mothers and babies love soothing music that automatically evokes their “natural relaxation response.”

Over the past 20 years, there has been a lot of publicity about the benefits of playing both classical and relaxational music. However, most parents are not aware that the much–hyped benefits of the “Mozart effect” and other generic compositions have already been disproven.

According to Dr. Thomas Verny, MD, research has proven that playing appropriate music can help to engage the baby’s attention, enhance love and bonding, facilitate intellectual development, and stimulate latent musical abilities.

Over the past 30 years, I’ve received hundreds of letters from parents who have used many of my albums, like Chakra Suite, Comfort Zone, and Ancient Echoes with their new arrivals with great success. On this album, my intention was to record uplifting, lyrical and relaxing versions of classic, universal, rather than actual classical compositions.
