FIRST-TIME APPLICANTSIf you have never attended Comic-Con as a member of the press, or if you have attended under another category but are now working as press, you are a first-time applicant. Before you apply as press, please read the press qualifications on page 3. Once you have confirmed that you meet the required qualifications, complete the “Comic-Con 2013 Application for Press”. Your application, verification materials, and “Press Verification Cover Sheet” must be postmarked or emailed by DECEMBER 10, 2012. Applications sent after this date will not be considered. For information on verification material requirements, please see page 3.

Once you have submitted your application, verification materials, and verification cover sheet, please allow 3–4 weeks for processing and review. You will be notified via email if you are approved or declined. If you do not receive a response from Comic-Con within 4 weeks, please contact [email protected]

RETURNING PRESSThose who have previously applied and were approved as press are considered returning press for Comic-Con 2013. All returning press fall under one of two categories: returning “DUE” and returning “NOT DUE.” To check your current press verification status, please log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account at https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ Your press verification status will be displayed as “DUE” or “NOT DUE.”

Returning Press DUEComic-Con requires that all press submit verification materials every two years. If your current press veri-fication status is “DUE,” you must complete the “Comic-Con 2013 Application for Press” Your application, verification materials, and “Professional Verification Cover Sheet” must be postmarked or emailed by DE-CEMBER 10, 2012. Applications sent after this date will not be considered. For information on qualifying verification material requirements, please see page 3.

Once you have submitted your application, verification materials, and verification cover sheet, please allow 3–4 weeks for processing and review. You will be notified via email if you are approved or declined. If you do not receive a response from Comic-Con within 4 weeks, please contact [email protected]

Returning Press NOT DUE If you have been verified as press in the last two years, you do not need to provide verification materials for Comic-Con 2013. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME FOR RETURNING “NOT DUE” PRESS. All “NOT DUE” press will be sent an email in spring 2013 with instructions on how to register for a Comic-Con badge. To receive this email notification, please log in to your Member ID account and confirm that you did not “opt-out” of email correspondence from Comic-Con. This information is found in the “Change My Prefer-ences/Unsubscribe” section once you have logged in.

All press applicants fall into one of two categories: First-Time Applicant or Returning Press. To determine your category, log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account at https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ If you are returning press, your member class will be “Press” and your press verification status will be “DUE” or “NOT DUE.” If you are a first-time press applicant, no professional verification status will be displayed.

• Each individual wishing to apply as press must have a Comic-Con Member ID. Press applications will not be considered without a Member ID.

• Your Comic-Con press verification status can be found on the homepage of your Member ID account.

• To receive registration notifications, log in to your Member ID account and confirm that you did not “opt-out” of email correspondence from Comic-Con.

• Press applications submitted without a “Press Verification Cover Sheet” will not be considered.

• There will be no onsite registration for press.

• Press who are “NOT DUE” require no action at this time.

PRESS QUALIFICATIONS Each year Comic-Con International welcomes members of the press from all over the world. Although requirements vary, Comic-Con will consider applications from press in the comic book, book publishing, animation, film, television, gaming, and other pop culture related industries. All press applicants must be currently employed by the outlet they are representing and each applicant and/or crew member must submit their own application and required verification materials. In general, press applicants fall into one of six categories: print, online, freelance, broadcast, podcast/blog, or production company. To meet the press application requirements, please find your category below and submit the appropriate verification materials.

VERIFICATION MATERIALS REQUIREMENTSPRINT PRESS (Periodicals, Newspapers, Weeklies & Magazines): If you are applying as print press, you must be currently employed by the outlet you are representing and you are required to mail or email the following:

At least THREE industry related bylined (credits your name) articles or photos published within the last 18 months. Please mail or email actual periodicals, newspapers, weeklies and/or magazines with your name highlighted. Unfortunately, we cannot issue press badges to printers, print brokers, or members of the print press who are not journalists.OR A business card with your name, editorial title, and press outlet’s logo AND a copy of your company’s current masthead, which clearly displays your name and editorial title.

ONLINE PRESS or FREELANCE JOURNALIST/PHOTOGRAPHER/VIDEOGRAPHER (Print & Online) If you are applying as online press or a freelance journalist/photographer/videographer, you must be currently employed with the outlet you are representing and you are required to mail or email the following:

At least THREE industry related bylined (credits your name) articles, photos and/or videos (credits your name), published within the last 18 months. Please email or mail actual printouts or screen shots of the entire articles, photos, and/or videos with your name highlighted.AND A signed assignment letter (on company letterhead) from your editor stating that you are covering Comic-Con 2013 on their behalf.

BROADCAST PRESS If you are applying as broadcast press staff you must be currently employed with the outlet you are representing and you are required to submit the following:

A valid business card with your name, editorial title, and press outlet’s logo.OR A signed assignment letter (on company letterhead) from your outlet stating that you are covering Comic-Con 2013 on their behalf.

PODCAST or BLOG If you are applying with a podcast or blog, you must be currently employed with the outlet you are representing and you are required to submit the following:

At least THREE industry related podcasts or blog entries from an established outlet within the last 18 months.AND A list of archives showing activity from the last 18 months. We consider the frequency of your updates (must be updated weekly and if not updated for more than 30 days without explanation, it will not be considered as valid verification material)

PRODUCTION COMPANY If you are applying as part of a production company you are required to submit the following:

A signed assignment letter (on company letterhead) from the studio, program participant, exhibitor and/or broadcast outlet stating that you are covering Comic-Con 2013 for his/her entity.

IMPORTANT VERIFICATION MATERIALS INFORMATION• Each press applicant/crew member must provide his or her own application and verification materials.

• We will not accept URLs of published materials.

• For podcasts, it is best to submit audio files.

• Faxed verification materials will NOT be accepted.

• Verification materials submitted without a “Press Verification Cover Sheet,” will not be accepted.

Comic-Con International strongly recommends that you email your professional application and verification materials. Should you choose to mail-in your application and verification materials, we suggest that you send them via FedEx, UPS, USPS certified mail, or any service which provides a delivery receipt. Comic-Con International is not responsible for lost applications and/or materials that were sent without tracking or delivery confirmation.

As always, the issuance of a press badge is at the sole discretion of Comic-Con International.

PLEASE NOTE: Names, outlets, and email addresses of confirmed Comic-Con 2013 press will be made available to studios, exhibitors, programming participants, etc. prior to the convention (COMIC-CON 2013 PRESS LIST).

FAQ: Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. How do I sign-up for a Member ID?A. Visit www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_reg_mem-berid.php to create your Comic-Con Member ID. A Comic-Con Member ID is free and available to all adults and juniors (ages 13 to 17) with a valid email address.

Q. I already have a valid Member ID, but I have never attended as press. How does my Member ID change from an attendee member class to a press member class?A. Fill out the application and follow the instructions to submit verification materials. If your application is approved, your member class will change to a press member class. You do not need to sign up for a new Member ID if you already have one. Your ex-isting ID will automatically change to a press mem-ber class once you are approved.

Q: How do I apply as press for Comic-Con 2013?A: Complete the “Comic-Con International 2013 Ap-plication for Press” Mail the application, your verifi-cation materials, and your “Press Verification Cover Sheet” to:

Q: My outlet/company would like to attend Comic-Con 2013. Can we apply as an outlet/company or will each person need to apply individually?A: Each member of your outlet/company will need to apply individually with his/her own unique Mem-ber ID.

Q: Can I fax my press application, verification cover sheet, and verification materials?A: No. All applications and materials must be sent via email or post mail.

Q: Why do I need to send in verification materials?A: As a nonprofit organization, Comic-Con Inter-national is able to provide a complimentary press badge to individuals who meet the published guide-lines and who provide verification materials and proof of employment with qualified job titles.

Q: How often do I need to send verification materials?A: Comic-Con International requires that all press resubmit verification materials every two years with continued qualifying work.

Q: What if I cannot provide verification materials supporting my work?A: If you cannot, or choose not to, provide the required verification materials, we suggest you purchase a badge through general attendee reg-istration. Your application as press cannot be pro-cessed if you do not provide verification of your work. Listing your work projects on your application is not considered verification. You must submit qualifying verification materials to support the out-lets on your application.

Q: When will I receive a response to my application?A: Please allow 3–4 weeks to process applica-tions and verification materials. All applications are processed in the order in which they are received. If you do not receive a response within 4 weeks, please send an email to [email protected] that includes your Member ID. Also include the date your verification materials were mailed and describe the materials you submitted.

Q. I sent in my application and was approved for Comic-Con 2013. Now what?A. Once you are verified and approved, you will be notified when EPIC Online Press Registration opens in spring 2013 via the email linked to your Member ID account. Please check your email fre-quently for this notification. We also suggest that

Q: When do I register for my badge?A: EPIC Online Press Registration will open in spring 2013. At that time, you will be able to register for your Comic-Con badge.

Q: I have been approved for a Comic-Con 2013 press badge. Can I add a plus one, a guest, or a child?A: No. A Comic-Con press badge is complimentary and therefore we cannot provide you with a plus one, guest, or child badge.

Q: I was approved for a Comic-Con 2013 press badge but I am unable to attend. Can I transfer my press badge to another member of my outlet/com-pany?A: No. Press registration is a courtesy and your Com-ic-Con press badge is non-transferable. You may not transfer or sell your Comic-Con press badge. Q: Will onsite registration be available?A: There will be NO onsite registration for press.

Q: What happens if I lose my badge?A: Unfortunately, lost or missing badges cannot be reprinted

Q: I would like to attend a certain panel at the con-vention, where do I enter?A: A Comic-Con press badge does not give you

early access, special access, or assigned seating to any of our panels or programming rooms. You must wait in the same line as the general attendees.

Q: I would like to video tape/film/record a panel at Comic-Con 2013, am I able to do so?A: Any video taping/filming/recording of any pan-els for COMMERICAL PURPOSES (not news) will require you to obtain permission from Comic-Con International and also from the panel participants. Please email [email protected] to request ap-proval.

Q: I will be filming a documentary at Comic-Con 2013, what are the appropriate guidelines and steps I need to follow?A: You will need permission from Comic-Con In-ternational and from any panel participants you include in your documentary. Please email [email protected] to request approval. Please include detailed information about your documentary in your email request.

Q: I missed the DECEMBER 10, 2012 application deadline. What can I do?A: The Comic-Con 2013 press application period will be open for two months. All applications, veri-fication materials, and verification cover sheets must be postmarked or emailed by DECEMBER 10, 2012 If you are a first-time applicant or return-ing “DUE” press, you must submit the above items prior to or on DECEMBER 10, 2012. Because of the high volume of applicants, applications and ma-terials submitted after this date will not be accepted under any circumstances.

TERMS AND CONDITIONSThere will be NO onsite registration. The only way to apply for a Comic-Con 2013 press badge is to submit a “Comic-Con 2013 Application for Press,” a “Press Verification Cover Sheet,” and verification materials, and be approved by Comic-Con International before the deadline date of DECEMBER 10, 2012. Verified press must register online each year they plan to attend, and provide verification materials every two years.

Comic-Con International strongly recommends that you email your press application and verification materials. Should you choose to mail-in your application and verification materials, we suggest that you send them FedEx, UPS, USPS certified mail, or any service that provides a delivery receipt. Comic-Con International is not responsible for lost applications and/or materials that were sent without tracking or delivery confirmation.

A Comic-Con press badge is good for entry to all of the events held at Comic-Con (space permitting). The Comic-Con press badge, however, does not allow for early entry into the Exhibit Hall, programming rooms, events, or guaranteed seating. Please keep in mind that press registration is a courtesy and your Comic-Con press badge is non-transferable. You may not transfer or sell your Comic-Con press badge. A press badge does not allow for plus ones, guests, or child badges.

Because of a variety of rules governing the San Diego Convention Center and Comic-Con International, wheeled carts or hand carts are not allowed in the convention center. Additionally, camera crews, while free to roam the center, cannot set up equipment in a fixed manner (i.e. lights, chairs, etc.).

Members of the press that want to videotape, film, and/or record any matter that will be used for commercial purposes (non-news) must first obtain written permission from Comic-Con International as well as permission of the panel participants. Please email [email protected] to request the appropriate consents along with detailed information regarding your documentary.

PLEASE NOTE: Names, outlets, and email addresses of confirmed Comic-Con 2013 press will be made available to studios, exhibitors, programming participants, etc. prior to the convention (Comic-Con 2013 Press List).
