The Balranald Gallery recently launched its latest exhibition aptly named “Vietnam Framed”. The exhibition, organised by the Balranald Community Arts and Crafts, Boort Development Committee, and Paul and Cathie Haw, showcases the poignant photographs of Mr Paul Haw taken during his time of service in Vietnam. Balranald Community Arts & Crafts president, June Spinks, says that “the exhibition portrays powerful photographic memories of the Vietnam Conflict and has been designed for the following generations to comprehend and understand Australia’s involvement
in the Vietnam Conflict.” Mr Haw was called up for National Service in 1967, serving 12 months in Vietnam as a Gunner on Bravo Gun, 102 Field Battery supplying artillery support for the Infantry. The seventy main prints that make up the exhibition depict life in Vietnam, during Mr Haw’s service as a Gunner. He also photographed general life of the Vietnamese people and the environment under the conflict of war. Mr Haw credits his father Bill for his use of a Minolta Camera for his photographs, “Dad heard that they were taking Minolta Cameras to the moon” informs Mr Haw “and this
resulted in the high quality prints that are now on show.” The graphic photographs were taken on 35mm slides, scanned, and then printed in colour on material to last 100 years. Mr Haw was caught in a mine field on Good Friday 1968. This incident killed two and wounded five others. The exhibition tells how the conflict affected his family and the local community. The “Vietnam Framed” exhibition is not to be missed and is on show until the 30th September 2016 at the Balranald Gallery 51 Mayall Street, Balranald. For more information, call Balranald Gallery on 03 5020 0200 or 0488 728 986.

Balranald Motorcycle Club hosted two days of great racing on 27th and 28th August, which was the final meet at the track for 2016. The club has re-formed this year after several years in recess and despite a few hiccups, couldn’t be happier with how the 2016 racing year went.
This meet was an outstanding success with almost 100 riders signing on over the two day event. Competition was fierce, especially between the senior riders and after some very exciting battles on the track, Barham rider Monte Hare came out on top of Swan Hill riders Lee Mayers and Ben Dickeson.
The club was impressed with
the number of junior riders competing, with BCP Pro Circuit Honda Anthony Atanasovski travelling from Melbourne. Another first for the club was a dedicated Ladies race. Club secretary Cindy Funnell joined in the action, coming second after Balranald rider Deanne Jones.
The Balranald Motorcycle Club would like to thank all their supporters over 2016 and look forward to bigger and better things to come in 2017. If you can help out at the Motorcross with working bees or have any riding enquiries, please contact the club via its facebook page or phone president Barry Anderson on 0428 135 055.
