Drakes 46-29 loss to Dayton was the most-missed game of the week, and 7 of the 11 one-miss pickers predicted that game incorrectly. Two of the other contestants with one miss thought UNI would defeat South Dakota State, and one incorrectly picked Texas over Iowa. When the dust cleared and the 555-point tiebreaker total was used to determine the winners, Jeff Cornelius took home the $50 PigSkin Cash prize, missing the total by just one point at 554, and Eric Betts receives $10 in scrip money with his 547- point guess. Winning honorable mention, also with one miss, were Jamie Linde, 543; Tyler Petersen, 543; Nick Schroeder, 539; Drew Vonnahme, 537; Emily Weller, 523; Ashley Betts, 521; Cheryl Vetter, 518; Janice Pieper, 517; and Tim Bell, 514. Sixteen of the 50 participants missed two games and another 16 missed three games, while five missed four games and two missed five. Exactly half of the partici- pants this week picked both Iowa State and Iowa to win on Saturday. Oklahoma trailed Baylor, 31-10 at the half but a second-quarter comeback gave them a 34-31 victory. Otherwise, many more misses would have been seen! Following Week 12, there will be a three-week break before the Bowl Game Edition is published in early December, with the last scrip money awarded in Janu- ary at the conclusion of the Bowl Games. Remember, all PigSkin Cash should be spent before the February 1, 2020, dead- line at one of the contest sponsors, and if you have prize money at The Observer, please stop in and pick it up soon! Thanks to everyone who participated this year! Carroll County Farm Bureau donates $20,000 to Cancer Center campaign ... St. Anthony extends a special thank you to our friends at Carroll County Farm Bureau who contrib- uted to the new St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center. We chose to make a donation to the new St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center because it has affected us, our clients, our families, and the community as a whole, said Jeff Dentlinger, agent with Farm Bureau in Carroll. Knowing that cancer affects 1,100 people in west central Iowa each year, the board and staff of Farm Bureau in Carroll County made an important choice when it came to deciding if they should give to the project. On behalf of Carroll County Farm Bureaus 1,700 members, we are honored to give a combined gift of $20,000 to the St. Anthony Cancer Center, said Brian Hoffman, Carroll County Farm Bureau presi- dent. Cancer has touched so many of our families in our rural farming communities. Pictured above (front, from left) are Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Members Kyler Oswald, Ja- son Nees and Brian Hoffman and Agent Jeff Dentlinger, (back) Ed Smith and Trish Roberts of St. Anthony, Campaign Committee Member Ryan Milligan, Farm Bureau Regional Manager Jim Heithoff, and Agent Ryan Kock. Jons to fill city council seat The question as to who will fill the third seat which was on the No- vember 5 ballot for the Westside City Council has now been answered, Westside City Clerk Nichole Neu- mann has announced. Since incumbents Jary Quandt and Nicole Kock were the only can- didates to file papers for the three available seats on the council, the third seat was to be filled with write-in votes, and 11 different people received votes. Following the canvassing of the votes by the Board of Supervisors, the Auditors office informed the City that the position on the council should be offered to Larry Jons, since he had the most write-in votes, with six. Jons, who has served as mayor of Westside in the past and chose not to seek another term in that position, informed Neumann that he would accept the seat on the council and would attend the groups winter meet- ings via telephone when he is travel- ing to the South. Incoming Mayor Michell Simons, and Council members Jons, Kock and Quandt will be sworn in at the De- cember 2 meeting. Carryover City Council members are Kevin Simons and Allan Kock. New Crawford County K9 officer has a nose for crime Thanks to Gordon Wolf of the Denison Bulletin and Review for sharing his information and photos from the K9 demonstration with The Observer! CRAWFORD COUNTY K9s -- Continued on page 6 The newest addition to the Crawford County Sheriffs Office, Molly, a 13- month-old German shepherd, is young but very adept at doing her job. Molly joins the sheriffs office veteran K9, Bayou, a nine-year-old Malinois, who is paired with Sheriff James Steinkuehler. Mollys handler is Deputy Jeff Trailer. Steinkuehler and Bayou work the day shift and Trailer and Molly will work the night shift. On Tuesday, October 22, Steinkuehler and Trailer demonstrated both dogs abilities to locate drugs at an event conducted for area media as well as Kyle Schultz with the Crawford County Board of Supervisors; Dave Wiebers, princi- pal, and Nancy McCarville, dean of students, with Denison High School; Crawford County Attorney Roger Sailer, and others. The event also focused on the usefulness of the new K9 training facility, located adjacent to the law enforcements shooting range on Crawford County Landfill property. Steinkuehler said his department saw the need for a second K9 because of a change in the law that says an individual cannot be detained for longer than a reasonable time for which he or she has been stopped by law enforcement. That means law enforcement cannot detain an individual for an indeterminate amount of time until an officer with a K9 can arrive on the scene. A reasonable time is about the time it takes to do your ticket, explained Steinkuehler, who lives in Dow City. The reason we are having issues now is because Im the dog trainer, and at night I could get called clear over by Manilla, and theres no way Im going to make it in a reasonable time. Now the night crew has a dog as well, and it actually gives you another tool. Sailer further explained the legal aspects of detaining an individual and the term reasonable suspicion, stating, Theyve (an individual or individuals) been stopped because an officer had reasonable suspicion for speeding or for whatever theyve been stopped. So, if you happen to get a dog there during the time youre writing a

uted to the new St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center. We chose to make a donation to the new St.Anthony Regional Cancer Center because it has affected us, our clients, our families, and the communityas a whole, said Jeff Dentlinger, agent with Farm Bureau in Carroll.

Knowing that cancer affects 1,100 people in west central Iowa each year, the board and staff of FarmBureau in Carroll County made an important choice when it came to deciding if they should give to theproject. On behalf of Carroll County Farm Bureaus 1,700 members, we are honored to give a combinedgift of $20,000 to the St. Anthony Cancer Center, said Brian Hoffman, Carroll County Farm Bureau presi-dent. Cancer has touched so many of our families in our rural farming communities.

Jons to fill citycouncil seatThe question as to who will fill

the third seat which was on the No-vember 5 ballot for the Westside CityCouncil has now been answered,Westside City Clerk Nichole Neu-mann has announced.

Since incumbents Jary Quandtand Nicole Kock were the only can-didates to file papers for the threeavailable seats on the council, the thirdseat was to be filled with write-invotes, and 11 different people receivedvotes.

Following the canvassing of thevotes by the Board of Supervisors, theAuditors office informed the Citythat the position on the council shouldbe offered to Larry Jons, since he hadthe most write-in votes, with six.

Jons, who has served as mayorof Westside in the past and chose notto seek another term in that position, informed Neumann that he wouldaccept the seat on the council andwould attend the groups winter meet-ings via telephone when he is travel-ing to the South.

Incoming Mayor Michell Simons, and Council members Jons, Kock andQuandt will be sworn in at the De-cember 2 meeting. Carryover CityCouncil members are Kevin Simonsand Allan Kock.

CRAWFORD COUNTY K9s -- Continued on page 6

The newest addition to the Crawford County Sheriffs Office, Molly, a 13-month-old German shepherd, is young but very adept at doing her job.

Molly joins the sheriffs office veteran K9, Bayou, a nine-year-old Malinois, who is paired with Sheriff James Steinkuehler. Mollys handler is Deputy JeffTrailer. Steinkuehler and Bayou work the day shift and Trailer and Molly willwork the night shift.

On Tuesday, October 22, Steinkuehler and Trailer demonstrated both dogsabilities to locate drugs at an event conducted for area media as well as KyleSchultz with the Crawford County Board of Supervisors; Dave Wiebers, princi-pal, and Nancy McCarville, dean of students, with Denison High School; CrawfordCounty Attorney Roger Sailer, and others.

The event also focused on the usefulness of the new K9 training facility, located adjacent to the law enforcements shooting range on Crawford CountyLandfill property.

Steinkuehler said his department saw the need for a second K9 because of achange in the law that says an individual cannot be detained for longer than areasonable time for which he or she has been stopped by law enforcement. Thatmeans law enforcement cannot detain an individual for an indeterminate amount oftime until an officer with a K9 can arrive on the scene.

A reasonable time is about the time it takes to do your ticket, explainedSteinkuehler, who lives in Dow City. The reason we are having issues now isbecause Im the dog trainer, and at night I could get called clear over by Manilla, and theres no way Im going to make it in a reasonable time. Now the night crewhas a dog as well, and it actually gives you another tool.

Sailer further explained the legal aspects of detaining an individual and the termreasonable suspicion, stating, Theyve (an individual or individuals) been stoppedbecause an officer had reasonable suspicion for speeding or for whatever theyvebeen stopped. So, if you happen to get a dog there during the time youre writing a
