crimefranchisethatbecameapopculturephenomenonwithitsinitialrun?

him)and“TrueDefective”willneverrecoverfromthathorriblesecondseason.

OneoftheunfortunatesideeffectsofHBO’shandsoffapproachandtotalcreative

freedomispeoplelikePizzolattoturningintodivasandinflatetheirownimportanceand

ignorecommonsenseorpractices(itwashis“brilliant”ideaforthesecondseason

posterstofeaturetheactors’chininsteadofface.Ugh)hislackofexperienceinthetv

industrycombinedwiththategohasturnedworkingwithhimtoanightmare.TD’s

seasonone’ssuccesswasinspiteofPizzolattoandnotbecauseofhim,ifCaryFukunaga

wasn’tthere,itwouldhavebeenamesslikethesecondone.

NoslighttoFukunaga,butifyoulikedS1,it’sbecauseNPwroteit.Athisown

paceandfrommaterialhehadalreadybeenworkingon.IfyouhatedS2,it’s

becauseHBOmadehimwriteitintooshortatimeframetodoitproperly.The

askwassimplytoolarge:10+hoursofhigh-qualitydramaticwritingina

matterofmonths.Nobodycould’vedonethat.HadHBOgivenhimayearit

would’vebeenadifferentresult,andtheymightstillhaveavaluableshow.

stealseverything.BothS1andS2ofTDwereplagiarizedtothepointwhere

peopleonsocialmediapredictedtheendingsbeforetheseasonsbegan.

truedetectivewasunfairlymaligned,yesitwasdark,thevincevaughnwalkingsequence

inthedesertwasalittleweird,butitwasstillverygoodandbetterthan90%ofthe

showsoutthere

TrueDetectiveSeason1wasanoutstandingshow(evenconsideringvastplaguerismby

MrPizzolatto)inlargeparttooutstandingperformancesfromWHandMM.Seasontwo

felloffthecliffearlyon,notjustallthemajorfansitesbutcriticsaswell.Theconceitof

usingnewstoryandcharacters,isarealdicethrowwithoutprovenwriting/directing

chopsovertime,andpasthistoryshowseventhatisnotasmartchoice.Letitrest,move

on.

Thisisagreatdetectiveseries.Itissupposedtobedark.IhopeHBOgetsbusyandkeeps

itcomingtous.

HBObettercomeupwithsomethingnowthatGoTisending.
