Entry CategoriesBrand Experience/IdentityA new or updated brand experience. This could include the roll-out of a new logo, graphic standards, and/or visual /content update for materials, applied firm-wide or for a specific market. Guidelines for application must be included in the submission.

Special Event MarketingA print or digital piece produced for one-time use to promote a special event including but not limited to an anniversary, office opening, dedication, conference or tradeshow participation (including exhibition materials and booth design), or ground breaking.

Digital MediaA campaign that utilizes online and interactive tools to generate engagement and collaboration. Examples include but are not limited to: apps, blogs, networking sites (LinkedIn, Facebook), content-sharing sites (YouTube, Flickr) or news sites (Digg, Reddit).

Please note: Digital Media submissions should only include online campaigns while Integrated Marketing submissions include campaigns that cross all marketing channels, including print media.

WebsiteAn external website or mobile site that promotes your firm. This could

include sites that have been launched by your firm for a specific project.

Holiday PieceA print or digital piece produced for one-time use to promote a generally recognized holiday; examples include a greeting card, party invitation, client appreciation gift, or calendar.

Integrated Marketing CampaignMaterials that promote a consistent brand message across marketing channels to reach a specific target audience over an extended period of time. Examples can include direct-mail campaigns, advertising campaigns, a series of printed or digital publications, external newsletter, and/or media relations campaigns.

Marketing CollateralPrint or electronic marketing collateral (both internal or external). Examples may include a proposal layout redesign, one-time email announcement or corporate mailing, magazine, annual report, internal newsletter, intranet, or book/monograph.

Additional HonorsAll entries submitted to the preceding categories are automatically considered for the following honors:

Ë Best In-house Design Work designed by full-time, in-house employee(s) of the submitting firm.

Ë Best in Show Judges will select from the first place entries in all categories for the 2015 Best in Show Award.

Ë People’s Choice On the night of the gala, entry presentation boards will be displayed and gala attendees will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for the best overall submission.

Eligibility Ë Any materials created after March 2014

Ë Anyone or any company who was involved in the creation of the materials entered – you do not have to be an SMPS member

Ë If submitting material from a firm where you were previously employed, or submitting as a consultant, written permission from the firm must be submitted with the entry

Notification and Next StepsIn mid-May, entrants that have won an award will be contacted and be required to produce a board as well as a .jpg of their board to be included in a PowerPoint, which will be displayed at next year’s events. All entrants have the option of submitting a board that will be displayed during cocktail hour at the 2015 SMPS Boston Awards Gala. Refer to board requirements on the following page. All boards should be collected at the end of the Gala.

Presentation Board Requirements Ë Please use gator board not exceeding 3/16 inch in thickness. Do not use foam core.

Ë The size of the presentation board must be 22 x 24 inches, either vertical or horizontal.

Ë One-dimensional, laminated presentation boards are preferred.

Ë The entry title, entry category, and the submitting firm’s name must be displayed on the front of the presentation board.

Ë .JPG file of board for use in awards presentation (if your firm has won an award).

Ë (Optional) Include a copy of the clarification statement in the bottom right-hand corner of the presentation board.

Ë (Optional) Include a business card indicating to whom people may write for further information about the piece.

Ë (Optional) A photograph of the individual or team who created the entry may appear on the board.

These requirements are based on SMPS National’s Marketing Communications Awards presentation board requirements.

Judging CriteriaJudges are selected for their expertise in marketing and communications as well as their experience in the AEC industry. They will judge each entry based on the following criteria:

Ë Ability of the submission to meet the objectives stated in the clarification statement

Ë Visual impact of the graphic design, photography, and other materials submitted

Ë Ability of the submission to effectively communicate with the intended audience

Ë Cohesiveness of concept and copy

Ë Marketing results

Marketing Professional of the YearHonors an AEC Marketing Professional with at least seven years of marketing experience who has significantly contributed to the success of his/her firm and actively participates as a member in the SMPS Boston Chapter.

Entry Submission Ë Two part process

1. Nomination: The nominator should submit the associated formfor the candidate they wish to nominate.

2. Second State Submission: The nominated candidate will receive a packet containing an entry form to be completed and submitted with a recent headshot, up to seven pages of supporting information, a current resume, and a letter of recommendation no more than two pages long. Please submit as one file.

Ë Contributed to the overall management of the firm’s administrative support

Ë Developed or been an integral part of the firm’s business development strategy

Ë Led a results-oriented marketing and communications strategy

Ë Developed effective marketing materials

Ë Been recognized by clients or in the profession for innovative marketing techniques

Ë Developed and implemented internal professional development program(s) related to marketing, business development, or client maintenance

Ë Contributed to the growth, visibility, and advancement of the marketing profession by fostering involvement in SMPS

The recipient will receive a scholarship to the SMPS National Conference (Build Business) for 2015 (to be held in August in Los Angeles, CA) or 2016 (to be held in Philadelphia, PA), at the award recipient’s option, as well as a ticket to the 2016 SMPS Boston Awards Gala.
