Grace and Peace My Friends! Summer has arrived! The temperatures are warmer, the days are longer, the town pools are opened, and the kids are out of school. COMMUNITY CHURCH THRIFT SHOP

Last month we had a very informative article about the history of the Thrift Shop; how it came to be, how it was built, who has run it over the years and the funds that it generates for the church.

What wasn’t said was that the Shop has an abundance of high quality goods, and what we need are CUSTOMERS. Is there anyone who can take on the responsivity of publicity for the Shop?

It is the best kept secret in town!

If you are willing to help, speak with Janet Spong, Rev. Sarah or Jan Harder in the church office.

COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWSLETTER

The June Budget amount of $150 will be going to Heifer International.

THIS IS NO ORDINARY GIFT. Giving an animal is like giving someone a small business, providing wool, milk, eggs and more. Animal donations can provide families a hand up, increasing

access to medicine, school, food and a sustainable livelihood.

Missions Thank Offering

The Missions Committee’s June Thank Offering will go to the YMCA Frost Valley Summer Camp. Summer camp offers children a magical world of play. There is nothing to turn on, re-charge, or re-boot; nature does that all on her own. Our imaginations do the rest. At Frost Valley YMCA, they offer sports, arts and crafts, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, swimming, singing, storytelling around the campfire, and sleeping underneath a canopy of stars. Our traditions—hoopla, stories, songs, and cheers, the annual Olympix ceremony, and the Hirdstock music festival—introduce campers to whim, and flight of fancy, and to the roles that creativity and imagination play in sports, education, and of course, play. Here, kids revel in the wonders of childhood. In this environment, friendships are quickly made and long-lasting. The experience far exceeds anything a power cord could ever supply.

Frost Valley YMCA is the premier summer camp located in New York’s Catskill Mountains only a couple of hours from New York City. The camp offers one of the most breathtaking natural settings in the country for children. With 112 summers under our belt, Frost Valley is guided by our mission to build a healthy mind, body, & spirit for all. Children from all backgrounds come together to try exciting & new things in a safe environment while building friendships. Please support this wonderful camping experience by using your Thank Offering Envelope or using a Pew Envelope marked “Camp”.

VBS program this year is ROAR! Life is Wild and God is Good. For the first time this year our VBS program is partnering with World Vision (Building a Better World for Children) to support moms and children in Zambia, Africa. We will have a Operation Kid-to-Kid Giving Tree in Frazier Hall. Using an offering envelope in the church pew or writing a check to Community Church, marked for the giving tree, a leaf with your name will be put on the giving tree during the next month and all funds will go to World Vision. These donations provide community health worker visits to pregnant women, monitoring of children’s growth and nutrition, vitamin A to prevent blindness and reduce risk of illness or death from common infections and education for parents on food, where to find them and how to prepare them. Please help to support this effort!

Birthdays and Anniversaries

On the last day of regular church school, June 9th, the Christian Education Department will present the children each with a book in appreciation of their continued attendance in church school throughout the year. Church school will continue over the summer, June 30th through August 11th, for children who attend worship service with their parents. Each lesson will have a bible story and a craft or game to complete each week.

Church School will resume on September 8th.

Our VBS program this summer is titled “ROAR”. The dates are June 24-27, 6:00 to 7:30 each evening. Roar focuses on the Republic of Zambia, a country of Africa, its people and animals. Each day we will began with a song, followed by the day’s theme Bible story. Craft time will reflect the theme of the bible story. The children will participate in making their own snacks. Games and physical activities, led by Rev Sarah, will be held outdoors. If inclement weather we will move the sports indoors. There is also a video each day for the children to familiarize them with Zambia, the people who live there and the animals who roam the wilderness.

If you would like to help please contact Patricia at [email protected].
