Ottoway is one of Australia’s leading mechanical fabrication and installation contracting companies provides specialised services to the petro-chemical, mining, defence and water industries.

The company operates its own fabrication workshops which support the construction, installation and commissioning teams. This enables Ottoway to offer complete project management from design through to commissioning.

Ottoway has successfully completed a range of projects throughout Australia and maintains a permanent presence in the Cooper Basin servicing long term customers Santos and Beach Petroleum, in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Ottoway has a strong focus on working safely, maintaining ongoing training in safe work practices and a proactive approach to environmental management and risk management.

Installation

Backed by experienced personnel with expertise in design procurement, project management and with our extensive range of equipment and experienced site personnel we have the capability and capacity of delivering innovative and complex site based projects including new installations, repairs and maintenance as well as shut down works. These works are complemented and supported by our fabrication workshops.

Our in house team of Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and Welding Supervisors ensure that all projects are carried out using proven project management methods

The Company has large Operations and Administration facilities at Wingfield and Whyalla in South Australia, also Mt Isa in Queensland, supported by Administration offices in Moomba, Cooper Basin SA and a satellite office in Perth WA.

The company maintains a large fleet of mobile plant including mobile cranes and heavy haulage equipment.

During the past 20 years the Company has carried out a range of work, from the fabrication of cement lined piping fittings for the Water Infrastructure industry: pipe spooling and both above ground and buried pipelines for the oil and gas industries: to more complex multi discipline projects such as water pumping station upgrades and the fabrication and installation of metering stations.

The company first achieved Quality certification to AS/NZS ISO 9001 in July 1996 and has a strong emphasis on Safety, Quality and responsible Environmental management whilst meeting customer specifications and schedule requirements.

The company forms part of the publicly listed E & A Group of companies (EAL), which together employ in excess of 450 people and offers the largest and most diverse range of engineering capacity in South Australia.

Ottoway Engineering has a large fabrication facility located at Wingfield, near Port Adelaide in South Australia.

The facility specialises in piping fabrication for the Oil and Gas and Water industries plus the fabrication of pressure vessels, stacks and miscellaneous structural steel.

Personnel are experienced in the fabrication of both ferrous and non ferrous fabrication materials including Stainless Steel, Duplex and Super Duplex for the process and water industries.

The workshop has a total of 3000 sq metres of undercover area serviced by overhead gantry cranes. Plus 5000 sq metres of lay down and storage area.

The facility has an extensive range of plant and equipment including plate cutting and rolling machinery plus submerged arc welding process for heavy walled vessels.

Ottoway’s workshop enables concurrent fabrication of different materials such as carbon and stainless steel without risk of contamination.

Ottoway has a diverse and experienced workforce of skilled trades personnel and maintains a strong emphasis on skills development with part of our fabrication facility used for in house welder training and our trades apprenticeship training.

APA Group

Brewer Estate – NT Owen Springs Gas Pipeline & End of Line Facilities

Ottoway Engineering managed and installed the 6km buried gas transmission line together with the Metering Station and associated infrastructure.

The metering skid, receiver, launcher and above ground spooling were fabricated, tested, coated and assembled at the Ottoway Engineering workshop in Adelaide.

Ottoway Engineering managed the entire project including subcontracted Electrical & Instrumentation, Civil, NATA certified testing and Horizontal Directional Drilling works under Stuart Highway.

Ottoway Engineering achieved a result of 99% on environmental performance as assessed by an independent consultant.

Origin Energy

Metering Stations – Penola, SA

Ottoway Engineering completed the fabrication and construction of the Poolaijelo and Ladbroke Grove pressure reduction and metering stations, including installation of all in-line valving and in-line instrumentation, hydro testing and pre-commissioning.

Beach Petroleum

Cooper & Eromanga Basins – SA & QLD Installations, Upgrades & Maintenance

Fabrication and installation of a new multiport manifold in the Kenmore Field.

Extension of the Kenmore tank farm including fabrication of two tanks and associated pipework.

Installation of two new Reda pumps and associated pipework.

Installation of a new tank farm, pipework and platforms at Callawonga and Parsons.

Lateral Pipelines – Naracoorte & Jervois, SA

Ottoway Engineering completed the installation of buried high pressure gas lateral pipelines from the SEA Gas pipeline to supply natural gas to the Teys Bros abattoir in Naracoorte and the Dairy Farmers cheese factor at Jervois in South Australia.

Central Petroleum

Brewer Estate – NT Dingo Gas Field Development Project

Ottoway Engineering managed and installed wellhead facilities (two wells), gathering pipelines, a material transition yard, gas conditioning & compression facilities, connecting pipelines, sales gas pipeline and tie-in work to the Owen Springs Power Station.

Low temperature separator and metering skids, pig launcher and receivers, an oily water separator tank and above ground spooling were fabricated, tested, coated and assembled at the Ottoway Engineering workshops in Adelaide and Whyalla.

Ottoway Engineering managed the full scope of works including subcontracted Electrical & Instrumentation, Civil and NATA certified testing.

Ottoway Engineering delivered the project on schedule and supported improvement in design and procedural processes that led to positive project changes.

Santos Ltd

Cooper & Eromanga Basins – SA & QLD Installations, Upgrades & Maintenance

Ottoway Engineering has undertaken a variety of projects for Santos Ltd at the Moomba Oil and Gas fields. We list some of the significant projects as testimony to the company’s remote location project ability:

Project Management, supply, fabrication and installation of piping and storage facilities at Limestone Creek in the Cooper Basin.

The Moomba North Compression facilities upgrade which required designing, project management, off-site fabrication and site installation of 100% x-ray quality carbon steel pipe spooling and associated operational facilities.

The contract also required the refurbishment of pressure vessels in Adelaide then their site installation with the associated mechanical compression plant.

The Sydney Raw Gas Bypass project involved the design, workshop fabrication and site installation in Moomba of 1500 metres of 300 and 250 diameter SCH80 pipe through the plant, including hot-taps, tie-ins and support structures.

The EIV installation works on the Daralingie to Moomba pipeline required an innovative approach to safely expose an existing 750mm diameter live gas line, cut it, then install a flanged isolation valve and by-pass lines all in a concentrated shutdown period.

Various pressure vessel fabrication or modification projects and subsequent installations at Della and Tirrawarra.

McConnell Dowell

Roma Hub 02 – QLD SANTOS GLNG Project

Ottoway Engineering was engaged to undertake all facets of the installation of carbon steel and HDPE piping for the Roma Hub 02 Gas Compressor Station as part of Santos GLNG Project.

Ottoway scope of works consisted of;

• Installation of free issue pile cap plates to the screw piles, approximately 2,000 No.

• Construction of Above Ground Carbon Steel Process Pipe Work and installation of free issue spools, pipe and fittings with the field welding accounting for some 16,000 diameter inches

• Installation of in line items such as valves, blinds, spacers, orifice plates etc.

• Hydrostatic pressure testing

• Painting.

• Construction of Above Ground HDPE Pipe Work including installation of free issue pipe and fittings.

Otttoway were also engaged to carry out additional remote site works for pipe and skid installation.

Over 400,000 man hours was expended by Ottoway across all of its involved works on the GLNG Project without an LTI.

Roma 02 SMP

Iluka

Relocation of Plant from Ouyen to WRP (Woornack, Rownack & Pirro).

Ottoway Engineering was engaged to disassemble the existing plant located at Ouyen Victoria (Kulwin Mine Site) transport some 45 kilometres to the new site and reassemble at WRP.

The timing of the project shutdown was 60 days.

To achieve the tight shutdown duration the approach was taken to dismantle and transport in the least amount of loads possible.

Load sizes varied from 20 metres wide to 30 metres high weighing from 20 tonne up to 450 tonnes per load.

The plant was reassembled in 56 days and commission early.

Cape Preston

Ottoway Engineering were the main Contractor to Australian Energy & Environment, being the EPC contractor and then directly to Citic Pacific Mining (Sino Iron).

Ottoway Engineering’s scope of work was to provide all labour to perform the mechanical installation of all components for the 450 mW Power Station.

The scope of work included the installation of the HRSGs, GTGs and Bypass Stacks, Steam Turbines, Cooling Water System, Water Treatment Plant, Deaerator and FW Systems, Pipe Rack Installation, BOP Piping, Service Piping, Distillate Fuel System, Air Compression, Fire Detection & Protection System.

Major lifts on site were up to 150 tonnes while at capacity Ottoway Engineering had engaged on site in excess of 200 employees.

At the completion of the SMP works Ottoway Engineering was engaged to complete the commissioning of the Power Station.

Austrian Energy & Environment

Ravensthorpe Nickel Project - WA

Ottoway Engineering Pty Ltd were the main subcontractor to Austrian Energy and Environment, the EPC contractor for the Power Plant Project for Ravensthorpe Nickel Operations in Western Australia.

The scope of work included installation of turbines, boilers, stacks, fans, steelwork structures, piping, pumps and associated equipment.

Acid Plant - Ravensthorpe Nickel Project – WA

Ottoway Engineering completed the entire fabrication of pipe spools for this sector of the Ravensthorpe project at their piping fabrication facility in Adelaide, South Australia.

The contract included the fabrication of 800 tonne of spooling from a variety of materials including mild steel, stainless steel, CrMo alloy steel and specialised sulphuric acid resistant steel named “Saramet 23”.

Western Mining Corporation / BHP Billiton

Olympic Dam Expansion - SA

Workshop fabrication of in excess of 36 kilometres of carbon steel pipe spooling. Diameters ranged in size from 15mm to 1000mm for services including some special oxygen pipework and rubber-lined pipework for slurries.

Site maintenance and SMP works including Tank Replacement install.

Built Environs

ACI Glass Packaging - SA

Fabrication of mild steel stack utilising our in-house rolling facilities16mm plate bottom cone section, 10 metres high, 10mm top straight section. Total stack height 50 metres, lined with approx. 7000 stainless steel refractory anchors. Our scope of work involved supply, fabrication, surface treatment and installation on site of the four stack sections.

Snapper Floating Wet Concentrator (FWC) Installation Project

The project involved the installation of the main pontoons, erection of structural steelwork, assembly and installation of all the platework, mechanical installation, piping, electrical and instrumentation for the new Floating Wet Concentrator at the Snapper mineral sands mine site.

Included in the contract was the installation of associated plant and equipment including 500m of floatline pontoons, 6 km of overland poly pipe and installation of two borefield modules. The project was brought to the pre-commissioning stage prior to handover to the client.

Pumping Station Upgrades – SA

Upgrade of Elizabeth East, Craigmore and One Tree Hill pumping stations, including supply and installation of new bore pumps, new electrical main boards, complete new control system and upgrade telemetry system, all while pump stations were in operation

Desalination Plant

Pipe Fabrication on site welding of pipeline – Adelaide, SA

Staged over 2 years involving all civil works mechanical and electrical/instrumentation including PLC and SCADA controls together with the fabrication and installation of 1500 & 600 cement lined pipe sections and the laying of approx. 2km of 1500 diameter cement lined pipe including the internal/external welding, lining repairs and pressure testing.

Central Irrigation Trust

Pumping Station Upgrade – Berri, SA

Supply and installation for the changeover of all existing gate valves to the Berri Pump Station, including rework of pipework and installation of bypass pipework; all while the pump station was in operation.

Supply and install isolating valves to the town water supply storage tank.

Wimmera Mallee Water

Booster Pump Stations – Vic

Design, project management, construction, installation and commissioning of the Ouyen & Walpeup Booster Pump Stations for the Northern Mallee pipeline project.

Each pump station contained 2 high flow and 2 low flow pumps, with all control systems to operate the station. All stainless steel piping was fabricated and assembled with the pump sets on skid bases at our Ottoway premises. The skids were then transported intact to site and installed on concrete slabs.
