The children in RA produced a stunning assembly on Wednesday. They were so confident describing
their highlights of the term. They also sang beautifully and all looked amazing in their costumes. Well
done to RA and to Mr Allen for successfully preparing the children for his first class assembly.
On Thursday 3H performed their rescheduled assembly. Two television reporters introduced the Greek
Gods, describing what their roles were in Ancient Greece to the school. The children spoke confidently
and sang beautifully and all looked amazing in their costumes.
Thank you to Mrs Hopwood and Mrs Hayden for preparing the
children.
Yesterday Mrs Hicks organised an obstacle course challenge in
the Sports Hall in aid of Sports Relief The children all had an
excellent time, thank you to Mrs Hicks for organising this event
and to everyone who contributed so generously. Thank you very
much to everyone for your generous donations to such a worthy
cause.
Today we say goodbye to Alfie Eke, a PGCE student from York St
John who is completing his teacher training this term. He has
worked at Clifton since Christmas. Alfie has been a wonderful
teacher in RA and has enjoyed his time at school and we have
valued his amazing work. My thanks to Alfie for all his help and
support.
We also say goodbye to a valued member of staff, Claire Hulmes
has worked at the school since 2010. She has been quite simply a
truly amazing member of the team at Clifton. She has been a huge support to the teachers, children,
parents and me throughout her time at Clifton. We will miss her and we wish her the very best of luck in
her new job in Leeds. Thank you Claire for all you have done for the children and the school.
This term has been sensational, the children have been on so many inspirational journeys with their
learning. The classroom environments have been stunning and the teaching truly remarkable, creating a
culture of learning, fun and happiness. My sincere thanks to all the incredible staff at Clifton for providing
this exciting environment for our children. Their dedication to their profession was the cornerstone of
the school winning the TES Pre-prep/Prep School Award this term and I can’t thank them enough for
their sensational work.
Finally thanks to you as parents for all your continued support. It is appreciated.
I wish you all the very best wishes for the Easter break and look forward to welcoming you back to
school on Monday 16th April for what I am sure will be another excellent term.
Best wishes

What a busy morning in Playgroup! Your baskets looked great, I also liked them worn around the neck too! Fabulous work! We decorated large Easter Egg Biscuits made by Chef Richard, they were yummy then played pass the parcel, it was a very very busy morning.
I hope you all have a lovely relaxing Easter and the Easter bunny treats you to chocolate Eggs. It was great to see Myla, Ralphie and Henry today.
Also A very Happy Birthday to Laura xxx
Have a great Easter
Mrs Deri-Clark
Well the Easter Holidays are finally here and we are all in need of a rest. The children in 1T have worked their socks off this term and have had a very busy and enjoyable theme. We have been Victorians, watched a theatre production, enjoyed STEM week, taken part in obstacle courses for Sports Relief and made models of Dream Country from the BFG, bridges, Victorian rooms, the list goes on… For our final week we have been writing the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine, making
medicine using different ingredients and observing the reaction between bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. I wonder where in the world our new theme will take us next? Have a lovely Easter from Mrs Johnson and Miss Bromley
RB have had a CRACKING Easter week! They have been shuffling sounds to make words in our daily EGGciting challenge, doing EGGcellent painting and even EGGstreme maths, sharing out 20 Easter eggs to 10, 5 then 2 Easter bunnies. On Thursday they did plenty of EGGSercise reading and following phonetic clues to earn a little chocolate rabbit. Have an EGGstravagent Easter RB and I will see you all again soon!
The children had a very energetic day on Thursday supporting Sport Relief 2018 with their very own obstacle course challenge in the Sports Hall. Thank you very much to everyone for your generous donations to such a worthy cause, the children had a
fabulous time as did some of the teachers!
Will the surface of the hill affect the distance that the egg will travel? Let’s go EGG ROLLING!
As a part of celebrating Easter, RA had such a fun time investigating different surfaces for egg rolling. After carefully design-
ing and decorating their hard boiled egg for the challenge, the children went around campus in search for different hills! We
discovered three different surfaces on a hill and explored if the surface of hill had an impact on the distance that the egg
travelled. The children were captivated in this challenge and gave clear reasons behind their thoughts and ideas! After the
egg rolling and checking if our eggs had survived the hills, we decided to take part in a friendly egg and spoon race! Team
work and spirit was shining here for RA here! The children became the audience, the judges and the participants and even
awarded their friends a rosette after each race! What a egg-cellent Easter day we had!

Nursery have had a lovely last week of term. We had a special visit on Monday from Dr Samiei, who showed us how to bandage and plaster legs and arms, we particularly enjoyed using the syringes to give 'special medicine'! We have made crispy
chocolate nests, which were delicious, and the children did such a good job cleaning up after themselves too! On Wednesday, with the sun out and snow at bay, we ventured out to the Museum Gardens in York...we even spotted the first signs of spring, and decided crocuses are
our favourite spring flowers! We have had a fabulous end to the week with Mrs Hick’s Sport Relief obstacle course. Nursery you deserve a well-earned rest for all your hard work and ‘can do’ attitude
this term, we are very proud of you all.
1J have been finishing
off their Roald Dahl
topic with some
fantastic writing
around George’s
Marvellous Medicine.
The children have
become authors by
creating their own
villain characters to
replace gruesome
Grandma from the
story. We have been so
impressed with their
use of adjectives,
similes and time
connectives.
In Maths we have been
focussing on finding
the difference between
two numbers using
cubes. The children
worked in pairs to
build towers and then
compared them to find
the difference.
With a heavy heart we said farewell to our
Austria students this week, but not before
finding out as much as we could about
Austria. We looked where we would find
Austria on the world map, learnt all about
Austrian traditions and even learnt some
German phrases! See what the children
can teach you in German.
We have also been preparing for Easter
celebrations with Easter craft activities
and making chocolate nests. We hope you
enjoyed them just as much as the children
enjoyed making them!
These children were awarded their Bronze Stage 1 Rookie Lifeguard award. This scheme is headed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK
and is run by our very own in-house instructor Mrs Jones.
Well done children.

Another busy week in Year 3 began with a visit from the award winning author, Guy Bass. With his hugely fun and interactive talk, the children even took part in some 'mad science', bringing Stitch Head to life! J1 came up to share the experience with us, it was lovely seeing so many familiar faces!
On Tuesday the children were given the challenge to make an egg catapult for launching a chocolate egg the furthest! The children worked collaboratively to explore the best way to position their lolly sticks and then tested their models! Don't worry, there were no chocolate eggs harmed in the firing of catapults!!
In maths the children have been eggs-ploring multiplication and division and solving word problems left by the Easter bunny!
Finally… Thursday saw 3H perform their amazing assembly all about the Greek Gods! Well done to all the children for speaking so confidently and making us all giggle! The costumes were brilliant, thank you to all the parents who helped put them together!
Have a lovely, restful Easter break and we look forward to welcoming the children back for their final term at Clifton!!
Hoppy Easter!!!
2H finished our fantastic theme of ‘From Russia
with Love…’ this term by visiting the cookery
room at St Olave’s to make and eat Russian blinis
- (aka drop scones!). We spent the 3 weeks
beforehand learning all we could about capacity
and weighing and all of the grown-ups were very
impressed by our careful measuring on the day.
We worked in groups, sharing out the jobs and
then….we ate the blinis!! We chose our
favourite toppings and they all tasted yummy! A
huge thank you to all the adults who helped,
including Mrs Antonov and Mrs Al Asadi.
We also said goodbye to our Austrian visitors,
who have assisted in school for the past two
weeks. They played some traditional Austrian
music for us on the last day and we were all sad
to see them go.
2H- Russia!! On top of all that, 2H have discovered dot-to-dots.! We have been tackling some very advanced ones,
using times tables skills and connecting numbers up to 400…! The silence in Mrs Hall’s class when we
were doing them was golden……J
Happy Easter everyone!!

After Easter we will be re-starting the Clifton Toe-tappers - a fun "band" for our Year 3 children to experience playing in a music ensemble. It is for all Year 3 children, no experience necessary, the music will be adapted accordingly! Any children who would normally play the piano will be offered a glockenspiel to play instead as we clearly don't have lots of pianos available! The band will be on Wednesdays after school in the Rayson Room and children are encouraged to bring their own instruments if they have them. Our first "gig" will be to perform at the Music Celebration concert at the end of the first half term!
Our School Councillors dismantled their ‘Can you balance a coin on a lemon’
experiment for our STEM week challenge. They raised a tremendous £43.14
for our School Charity Water Aid. The children would like to thank everyone
for their support.
