CCEF ANNUAL NASSAU BAY PENINSULA CLEANUPJoin us on February 13th for Clear Creek Environmental Foundation’s Annual Cleanup Event. If you would like to participate in the general Clear Creek clean up, please gather at the boat ramp at Highway 270 (Egret Bay Blvd) on the League City side at 8am.

For those wanting to contribute more toward the cleanup of the City’s Peninsula, trash bags and bottled water will be available at the peninsula gate. If weather permits, someone will be at the gate to answer questions. Join us at 8:30am if you wish to be part of a group. If later works better, come when you can, grab a trash bag at the entrance and strike out on your own. Most importantly, prepare to encounter wet and muddy conditions so wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Please bring your own gloves.

Cleanup usually lasts til noon, or until you get tired. All volunteers are greatly appreciated!

POLICE CHIEF RETIRING

The Annual Christmas Boat Parade that was cancelled by the U.S. Coast Guard due to the high winds and severe weather in December, is now the Cupid's Christmas Boat Parade and will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 6:00pm.

The parade will begin with fireworks launched from the Nassau Bay Peninsula at 6:00pm followed by brightly decorated power and sailboats that will traverse the Clear Lake channel from South Shore Harbour Marina and the Nassau Bay Lagoon to Galveston Bay.

CUPID'S CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE


Police Chief Joe Cashiola has announced his retirement. Cashiola has served the citizens of Nassau Bay for over 34 years in the Nassau Bay Police Department.

ELECTION NOTICE


On January 15, 2016, the Garden Club planted a Chinese Fringe tree in Howard L. Ward Park and held a nice ceremony to celebrate Nassau Bay's Arbor Day. The Chinese Fringe tree will have beautiful clusters of white flowers for two to three weeks each Spring and will be a truly unique tree for our community to enjoy for years to come.

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION

NBGC Members Lin & Richard Warrington were recently invited to be part of the local PBS show "Manor of Speaking" that is a follow-up to Downton Abbey. Dressed for the time period of the program, Lin was chosen to ask a question for the host, Ernie Maniouse, and his panel of experts to answer during the show. The episode aired January 10th - looking great on camera Lin!

STAFF SPOTLIGHTAnimal Control Officer Troy Bradfield has been with the City for over 18 years. He passionately cares for the City’s wildlife and abandoned animals, and assists residents with all their animal-related questions. From finding loving homes for the dogs and cats that wander into our community to helping deal with opossums, raccoons and even snakes, Troy is a friend to all animals. In addition to adopting out 28 dogs and 12 cats in 2015 and reuniting over 40 with their owners, Troy also assisted the Public Works department on various projects throughout the City.

The amount of occupied office space in Nassau Bay continues to inch higher as buildings are being renovated and more businesses begin to move into Nassau Bay. Many of them are NASA subcontractors as well as others who are seeking comparable rents in an area that has great access to I-45 and State Highway 3 as well as the clients they serve. Such is the case in point for 2400 NASA Parkway. The property is comprised of two 4-story buildings with 80,000sq.ft. each. It was built in 1984; however, this building was awarded an Energy Star label in 2012 and 2013 for its operating efficiency. It is categorized as Class B office space.

Boxer Property over a year ago completed property renovations and Boxer Workstyle at 1322 Space Park, a two-story office building with approximately 123,089sq.ft. Built in 1966, the space is part of a three-building office complex located in Nassau Bay.

The property has undergone interior and exterior renovations to bring an updated look and new amenities to the entire complex, allowing the space to be dog-friendly for tenants. “A crisp, clean and cohesive design is carried both inside and outside of the building,” said Designer Rogelio

Rendon. "In the common areas, way-finding accent colors in windows and painted areas complement the sealed concrete floors. This play of color incorporated into the design will guide visitors and tenants through the space.”

Amenities inside the building incorporate the customary Boxer Workstyle executive suites with shared lobby areas and collaborative common space. The complex has lounge areas, as well as an interior common area, a large lounge area with a break room, and a large conference room. Exterior updates include a food truck docking area for a dynamic outdoor food court, a dog park for tenants to bring pets to work under personal supervision, outdoor courtyards, and sun-shaded seating.

With over 1 million sq.ft. of office space, the City of Nassau Bay, being directly across from NASA Johnson Space Center, hopes to continue to meet the needs of businesses seeking office space.

The Fire Service has a rich history steeped in customs and traditions. One of the longstanding traditions that dates back to the days of horse drawn pumpers in the late 1800s is the ritual of commissioning a new piece of apparatus during a "wet-down" and "back-in" ceremony. During that era, newly acquired horses, along with the pumper, were washed at their new firehouse, then backed into the firehouse bay where the firefighters would fit the horse with it's new harness, placing the company in service. These days, a new fire truck is sprayed down, dried, and then put in reverse while firefighters help "push" from the front bumper into the firehouse bay.

This year, the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department was able to start the new year off with one such ceremony. On January 16th, citizens, city officials and emergency responders joined together to wet-down and back-in their brand new, state-of-the-art, Engine 82. The Fire Department was pleased to be joined by Nassau Bay EMS who were commissioning their brand new ambulance, Medic 8. As such, both vehicles are now officially commissioned and ready to respond, providing a critical service to the residents of Nassau Bay.

Nassau Bay Animal Shelter has several animals available for adoption or foster. If you are looking to add a member to your family or know someone that is, please call us or come visit the shelter today.

The City of Nassau Bay is contracted with AmeriWaste to provide residential and commercial sanitation services as well as residential recycling. Residents receive back-door sanitation pick-up services as part of their annual property tax payment. Residents may place their bagged trash or trash cans near their back door in an accessible area for pick-up on Mondays and Thursdays. Yard debris or heavy items must be placed curbside on Mondays for collection.

Residential recycling is a fee-based service and residents must contact AmeriWaste to set-up service for Back Door Recycling at $36.70/year or Curbside Recycling at $18.11/year. Once a resident has established service they will receive a 35-gallon plastic rolling recycling cart in which they collect and co-mingle recyclable items. Pick-up is provided on Thursdays. It is the same day as trash service, but the recycling cart should be placed noticeably apart from trash items. It is important only recyclables go in the recycling cart. Any trash placed in the recycling cart compromises AmeriWaste’s ability to recycle the recyclable items.
