Call to Worship..........................................................................................Randy Daniel(congregation standing)

Leader: You, Lord, are the way, the truth, and the life. Joyously we come together to worship. Weraise our voices in song. We open our hearts to Your comforting word. We acknowledge that You walkbefore us. We thank You for forgiveness. We thank You for salvation. We praise You for life this day.We celebrate Your glory. In You we live and move and have our being.Congregation: Praise the Lord!

Pass the Blessing of Christ’s Peace

Hymn No. 4: .........................................tune:(congregation standing)

Invocation..................................................................................................Randy DanielMerciful and truth-filled God, we have erred and strayed from Your ways likelost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our ownhearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone thosethings which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which weought not to have done. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore thosewho are penitent, according to Your promises, and help us remember that it isYour truth that will set us free. Amen.

Psalm 27: — Frances Allitsen........Josh Wheeker & Church ChoirThe Lord is my light and my salvation, whom , then shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom, then shall I be afraid? Though an host of men were laid against me, yet shall not my heart be afraid. And tho’there rose up war against me, yet will I put my trust in Him. For in the time of trouble, He shall hide me in Histabernacle. Yea, in the secret places of His dwelling shall He hide me and set me up upon a rock of stone.

Scripture Lesson: ....................................................................Beverly CobbWith what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before Him withburnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousandrivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Hehas shown you, O people, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mer-cy and to walk humbly with your God.

Jesus. Only. All. Period.

I. A Question of Identity

II. Jesus and a Question of His Identity

(Matthew 16:13-17) When Jesus arrived in the villages of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "What are people saying about who the Son of Man is?"They replied, "Some think he is John the Baptizer, some say Elijah, some Jeremiah or one of the other prophets."He pressed them, "And how about you? Who do you say I am?"Simon Peter said, "You're the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God."Jesus came back, "God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn't get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am.”

III. How will you answer the question?

A. “I miss Him.”

B. “He is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God."

(Hymn No. 4) is a paraphrase of Psalm 103 by John Lyte, a Scottishpastor. The tune, (Latin for Praise, My Soul) was composed by Sir John Goss, who was theorganist/choirmaster at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London for 34 years.

with words from Psalm 27, is by Frances Allitsen (1948-1912). Her real name wasMary Bumpus, but she used an alias because a female composer’s music wouldn’t sell. This very popular vocalsolo was arranged for choir by William Stickles in 1954.

was written in 1979 by Linda Lee Johnson and set to music by TomFettke for contemporary vocal artist, Sandy Patti, who made this piece famous.

is a setting of Hymn No. 606 by Ovid Young. This hymn originated as aspeech by Abraham Lincoln on the war with Mexico and the basic rights of all people. The tunecomes from a mythical story that the music was found in a jar floating in the water.

is a newer hymn with words and music by John Carl Ylvisaker, aMinnesota composer who works for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The original title was,

, but hymnals around the world use the first line as the title.
