3 Some Senior Residents are not staying in hostel except on emergency day

All the Senior Residents are allotted accommodation in the hostels and residential quarters in the campus provided. It is made mandatory that they should stay in the campus.

We have full component of senior residents and junior residents, who were accepted as SRs and JRs during earlier inspections, presently their residence in the quarters is made mandatory and all are staying the quarters/hostel. DEFICIENCY IS RECTIFIED.

Wards: Male medical ward, Skin & VD, TB & Chest, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, OBG, Male & Female Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT were not as per MSR regulations like there is no examination cum treatment room, pantry, store room, demonstration room, duty room.

All the wards of departments mentioned Male medical ward, Skin & VD, TB & Chest, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, OBG, Male & Female Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT were constructed as per MSR and very much present.

5 Most of patients admitted in the General medicine ward did not require admission and they had minor vague complaints like body ache, weakness etc.,

The patients admitted in the general medicine ward were all genuinely admitted for treatment and investigations as people from far off tribal areas are admitted for investigations of their complaints.

6 Laboratory Investigations: Work Load is still inadequate

7 Casualty: Central O2 and Central Suction are not available. Pipeline was shown to assessors but it was not functional, Emergency drug tray not available, portable mobile x-ray machine not available. Patients admitted in the casualty had minor non specific complaints like headache, weakness etc., No casualty OT.

1. Central O2 and 2. Central Suction

are available in the casualty and functional.

3. Emergency Drug Tray is available in Casualty.

4. Portable X-ray machine is available in Casualty.

5. Patients attend casualty round the clock with complaints, with headache, hypoglycaemia , injuries, medico legal cases and all are attended in the casualty as out patients and deserving patients only will be admitted in the wards.

6. There is an emergency major OT with central oxygen and suction and monitors in casualty.

8 ICUs: NICU is practically non-functional and there was only 1 patient each in PICU MICU, SICU all combined only 6 patients (total beds 15)

There was 1 patient in NICU but was taken out for feeding and was not present. And there was 1 patient in PICU. NICU and PICU are functional with necessary warmers, phototherapy units and monitors. The workload in SICU, MICU, ICCU has since improved.

9 Septic O.T. is not functional Septic OT is functional. Though the MSR mentions 4 major theatres and 2 minor theatres only, we have 5 major and 3 minor theatres one of which is used as septic OT near Casualty.

DEFICIENCY IS RECTIFIED.

10 Speech Therapy room is too small Speech Therapy is 120 sq.ft. The MSR doesn’t mention any size for the speech therapy room. Rehabilitation Council of India recommends room of 6x6 ft room for speech therapy.

11 Nursing Staff: We have here noticed that GNM nursing students doing internship are show as staff nurses. So Practically deficiency not rectified.

In the earlier inspection it was mentioned that there are only 168 nurses instead of 175. Seven staff nurses have since been recruited. Now the strength of the staff nurses is 175. In addition, we have Nursing Internees (13 from Minerva school of nursing; 10 from Lazarus school of nursing) and these have not been shown as staff nurses.

12 Bed Occupancy is 56.49% (total bed 308 out of 174 patients admitted at the 10 AM)

Bed occupancy is shown as 56.49% for 308 beds i.e 174 patients on the day of assessment which comes to 58% when calculated for the required bed strength at LoP of 300 beds. When the assessors visited the wards they did not take into account patients who went to radiology and laboratories and OT also patients in ICU (7 Nos.), Post operative wards (6 Nos.), NICU (1 No.) were not counted. The actual bed strength on that day was 207 and the occupancy was 69% Now, at present the average bed occupancy is more than 60%.

13 Nursing Hostel: in 1 room, 5-7 beds and nursing staff are staying not as per norms.

There are two types of Nursing Hostels: 1. Staff Nurses working in the hospital

– 36 nurses are provided 12 rooms with 3 in each room

2. Another Hostel for Student Nurses working as internees is also available adjacent to the above hostel. In a couple of rooms which are larger in size 5-6 internees were accommodated.
