Computer Training for Parents

Overview

The training I designed involves a series of workshops that provide computer training for parents at my school. Almost all career fields require some basic computer knowledge. I want to be able to provide quality, free training to help parents develop or enhance their computer skills so they can get a better job or advance in their current field.

The Participants

The training will be presented by volunteers. They will either be teachers from our school or other members of the community that are willing to freely give their time.

The training will only be offered to parents of students at Richfield Public School Academy. Session space is limited to 30 people per session. Participants will need to enroll prior to the session and availability be a first come first serve basis.

Benefits for Parents

Increase their computer knowledge and skills with various programs.

No cost for the parents. Free childcare being offered. Will be held at the school so they will not

have to travel far for training. They can take city busses to the school if needed.

Goals and Objectives

Parents will be able to successfully start up a computer and navigate through different programs using the program menu by the end of the first workshop.

Parents will be able to create a personal resume using Microsoft Word by the end of the second workshop session.

Parents will be able to create a personal presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint by the end of the third workshop session.

Parents will be able to create a budget template using Microsoft Excel by the end of the fourth workshop session.

Parents will be able to create a flyer, brochure, or other advertisement using Microsoft Publisher by the end of the fifth workshop session.

Training Sessions Outlined

Each session will be approximately 1 hour long. The sessions will be held the first and last Wednesday of the

month for a 3 month period of time. The first session will cover computer basics; turning it on,

navigating to different programs and what programs most computers offer.

The following sessions will cover components of the Office Suite starting with Word and covering a new component each week.

During each session parents will start with the basic aspects of the program and then create something that uses the program.

This workshop could be an ongoing series of workshops provided to reach as many parents as possible that have continued interest.

Possible grants could be applied for to cover any overhead costs that the school can not absorb.
