Q1. How can I receive Knowledge Maintenance updates after earning
an EMC Proven
Specialist credential? You will automatically start to receive
Knowledge Maintenance Notifications after earning a credential that
is covered by Knowledge Maintenance.
Q2. Is there a difference between Education Services product
differences courses and
Knowledge Maintenance courses? No. Education Services product
differences courses are part of the product release cycle, designed
to provide you with the latest product training. Knowledge
Maintenance courses are a subset of product differences courses
aligned to certain EMC Proven Professional specialties. Whether you
register for a course through the Learning Management System, a
course announcement, or the link in a Knowledge Maintenance
Notification, you are taking the same course and the content is the
same.
Q3. Why should I take Knowledge Maintenance Update Training? Taking
Knowledge Maintenance Update Training keeps you informed of the
latest product releases and the associated features and functions.
The technical differences courses in a Knowledge Maintenance bundle
are aligned by product launch and, for larger launches, by job
function.
Q4. When do Knowledge Maintenance Notifications arrive? If a course
is part of Knowledge Maintenance, you will receive an email
notification similar to the one below approximately two weeks after
the product GA date.

Q5. Where is the test registration link in the latest Knowledge
Maintenance
Notification? Knowledge Maintenance Tests are issued via separate
bi-annual notifications at the beginning of April and October—see
an example in the next question . Other Knowledge Maintenance
Notifications do not have test registration links—see an example in
the previous question .
Q6. When do Knowledge Maintenance Tests release? Knowledge
Maintenance (KM) Tests are issued bi-annually in April and October
and include questions from the prior six months of Knowledge
Maintenance Update Training. Each Knowledge Maintenance Test
Notification includes registration links for the test and the
training covered by the test.

and training registrations
Q7. I completed the Knowledge Maintenance Update Training and the
associated
assessments; do I also have to pass the bi-annual Knowledge
Maintenance Test? The Knowledge Maintenance Test you received
includes questions covering the prior six months of Knowledge
Maintenance Update Training. Passing this test lets you confirm,
for yourself and for current and potential employers, that you have
retained information from those courses. Passing the test adds a
Knowledge Maintenance Certificate of Completion to your EMC Proven
Professional CertTracker records and lets you add it to a
transcript you can share with others.
Q8. Is there a time limit for completing Knowledge Maintenance
Update Training or Tests? No. You may register for courses or tests
associated with Knowledge Maintenance any time after you receive
the notifications; however, the sooner you take the training or the
test, the sooner you will be aware of additional updates in your
technology domain and earn your Knowledge Maintenance Certificate
of Completion.
Q9. Is there a limit on attempts to pass a Knowledge Maintenance
Test? No. You may retake a Knowledge Maintenance Test until you
pass it.
Q10. Does passing a Knowledge Maintenance Test change my
certification status? No. Knowledge Maintenance does not affect
your EMC Proven certification status. Passing a Knowledge
Maintenance Test does earn a Certificate of Completion and become
part of the records stored in EMC Proven Professional CertTracker,
but it is a separate achievement.

Completion
Q11. Do I have to participate in Knowledge Maintenance? No.
Completing courses for Knowledge Maintenance and passing the
associated test is not mandatory at this time.
Q12. Why do I not receive Knowledge Maintenance Notifications when
other EMC Proven
Professionals do? You may have an older version of the
certification. If so, you will need to pass the most recent EMC
Proven Professional Exam(s) required for that track and earn the
newer credential before you will receive Knowledge Maintenance
Notifications. If you believe your certification is current and you
are not receiving notifications, please contact
[email protected].
Q13. I have taken and passed several courses associated with
Knowledge Maintenance.
Why do they not appear in the EMC Proven Professional CertTracker?
While courses do contribute to the bi-annual Knowledge Maintenance
Tests, only the bi-annual test results are tracked in CertTracker.
Course completions are tracked in a separate Learning Management
System. See the next question for links to both locations.
Q14. How can I view my progress on Knowledge Maintenance Update
Training and
associated tests? Knowledge Maintenance (KM) Update Training is
tracked in “My Training” at https://education.emc.com.
Knowledge Maintenance Tests and associated Certificates of
Completion are tracked in EMC Proven Professional CertTracker. To
view the tests you have passed, access your CertTracker account
records at https://www.certmetrics.com/emc/login.asp.

You can view your Knowledge Maintenance activity in the ‘My

Q15. How can I share my Knowledge Maintenance Certificates of
Completion with my
employer? Using the EMC Proven Professional CertTracker site,
Knowledge Maintenance Certificates of Completion can be added to
official transcripts that you can email to your employer. The
Transcripts page shows earned certificates under ‘Certifications to
Display(…)’. Select the checkboxes next to the items you want
included on your transcript.

Q16. I have an older EMC Proven Specialist credential. Can I still
receive Knowledge
Maintenance Notifications? No. Knowledge Maintenance Notifications
are only sent if your EMC Proven Specialist credential is for the
most recent major revision of the associated EMC Proven
Professional Exam(s).
Q17. Can I still participate in Knowledge Maintenance if I no
longer work for EMC or an
EMC Partner? If you are a customer, you can earn a Storage
Administrator certification, and receive Knowledge Maintenance
Notifications for that EMC Proven Professional track. Only EMC
employees and partners can take the Knowledge Maintenance Update
Training associated with the other tracks.
Q18. I just changed jobs, but I have a valid Powerlink account with
my new employer.
Why is there no record of previous Knowledge Maintenance
Certificates of
Completion in EMC Proven Professional CertTracker? This may be
caused by having two active accounts in EMC Proven Professional
CertTracker. Please contact the Education Services help desk at
[email protected] and let them know about the problem. Once your
records are merged you should see all of your previous
achievements.
