Kindergarten Visits

This is an opportunity to visit the Kindergarten classroom and interact with the current Kindergarten students.

Where children can come, look around and join in some of the learning experiences that occur on a daily basis at

school.

This opportunity will offer students to take part in a 40 minute lesson and give parents the chance to see how

team teaching occurs. It is also a great time for parents to ask questions if they have any further queries

regarding coming to school.

A teacher will be available to speak to and give parents a tour of the school while the lesson is taking place or

they may wish to just sit and enjoy seeing their child meet some new friends and watch the teachers work their

magic.

Kindergarten visits will be available on the following days

Term 4 – Week 6

Dates – Monday 14th November, Tuesday 15th November and Wednesday 16th November from 10.30 –

11.10am only These visits are replacing kindergarten orientation day.

Tips for Reading with a Child

Research shows that children who have

been read to everyday before school learn

to read and write more quickly at school.

Reading also helps children to become active

Kindergarten Excursion

Last Tuesday Kindergarten visited 'Carlowrie' for their excursion. We got to feed alpacas and sheep, have a picnic in

the yards, learn a little about volcanoes, and even look for dinosaur bones! A huge big thankyou goes to Debbie and Laurie O'Neil, who hosted us for the day. We all had a great time!!

Stage 3 Excursion to Bathurst and Blue Mountains

On 11th

October, 34 stage three students and three teachers set off on a 3 day excursion to Bathurst

and the Blue Mountains. The first stop was the Jenolan Caves, where we were guided through the

Lucas Cave which was absolutely amazing. 920 steps later we had all learnt some amazing facts

about the caves history and had seen some beautiful sights.

When we arrived back at Bathurst, our bus went for a lap around Mt Panorama and then settled at

the Bathurst Goldfields where we were staying for two nights. We were all exhausted on the first

night after a big day, after dinner we learnt line dancing and then settled in for the night.

Day two was just as exciting, our first adventure was looking at the three sisters and Blue

Mountains in Katoomba followed by fun activities at Scenic World. After lunch we set off on the

steepest railway in the world, going down the cliff face at 52 degrees. It was a little scary and there

was a lot of screaming. Once down the bottom, we walked through the Blue Mountains and were

able to look at the wildlife and bushland. We returned to the top of the mountain by cableway which

was amazing as the views were unreal. We had such a great time that we decided to do it all again,

this time going down the cableway and up the railway, which was just as scary going up!

After the Scenic Railway we headed to Hartley where we looked through the old court, jail cell and

church. We dressed up in old fashion clothes and acted out a mock trial. Two students were even

sentenced to 20 lashes!! That night we sat around a camp fire, singing songs, dancing and of course

roasting marshmallows!! Then we took our torches out and played spotlight and had a walk around

in the dark.

On our last day we learnt about the gold rush by looking at different methods of finding gold. We all

were able to pan for gold in ponds, and were lucky enough to find small specks of gold to take

home. Unfortunately no one found a big nugget of gold. After that we played old fashioned games,

and learnt how to make damper in a fire, mud bricks for a mud house and how to set up an old

fashioned tent. By Thursday afternoon we were all exhausted and ready for a sleep in our own beds.

S2K’s Excursion to Condobolin

You may think...Who goes on an excursion to the Condobolin main street? Well S2K

from Condobolin Public School did just that.

As part of the Local Environments unit that Stage 2 are studying this term, students made

their way to the CBD of Condobolin last week to explore and discover some of the elements

and features in a local built environment. Students gathered information in order to identify

the needs and wants of the community.

Destiny Nagle - “We went and learnt why different buildings and shops are there and how

they help Condobolin.”

Maddy O’Bryan - “It was interesting to walk around and see different buildings and why they

were there. Some had been closed but it was interesting to hear about how they were used in

the past.”

Later this term, students will be designing their own Town to meet the needs of the people in

Condobolin.

Dear Parents, Due to the Stage Two excursion, our school is about to launch a Galaxy of Books Scholastic Book Fair NOW on Thursday 10

th November in

our school library! We would love to see you there. Each class will be given opportunity to both view and purchase books in class time but the library is also open on Thursday 8:30am to 9:10am and from 3:10 to 4:30pm for parents who would like to view the books with their children. Our Fair will be a wonderful reading celebration giving your family the perfect opportunity to select books together. Plus your support of this fundraiser provides valuable learning resources for our school.

I hope you can join us at our Galaxy of Books Book Fair to help us celebrate reading with our students and the school community. Yours sincerely, Sharon Wright Librarian
