WARD 4 COUNSELLOR UPDATE FOR OCTOBER 2015
Thank you again to all the residents of Conklin and surrounding area who attended the Council meeting on September 22nd in support of the multi-plex. It is so wonderful to see the community commitment in this project. I attended the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) conference in Calgary on September 24th along with Mayor Blake and other members of Council. We met with the Minister of Municipal Affairs to lobby for a separate tax rate for local businesses within the rural hamlets. I plan on attending the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC) in November to lobby again for this separate tax rate. Mayor and Council also discussed this concern again with our provincial representatives Brian Jean
and Tany Yao, whom we met with on September 21st. Mayor and members of Council also met with staff for Alberta Transportation at the AUMA conference lobbying for improvements to highway 881 which is under provincial jurisdiction. We lobbied for streetlights on highway 881 at turn offs to the rural hamlets in Ward 4. We lobbied for improvements such as a pull out between Conklin and Anzac so truckers can put on their chains to climb the large hills. We further discussed plans to build passing lanes. I met with the Memorial Highway group in Vegreville on September 11th. We are planning a presentation to the Minister of Transportation. We are stressing the needs for improvements to the heavy load corridor which includes highway 881. I also was in Innisfail for a meet and greet and nine holes of golf during Mayor and Council’s summer break. I met with Mayor and Councillors from other areas of Alberta. We discussed linear assessments which are a crucial part of our tax base in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Mayor and members of Council in attendance then further discussed the linear assessments and the potential impact to our region with the Minister of Municipal Affairs at the AUMA conference in September. I was in Conklin for the talent show hosted by the Conklin Community Association and the slo-pitch tournament on Saturday, August 29th. There is so much skill and flair at these events. Some friends and I drove to Christina Lake while in Conklin. I always find the lake such a beautiful sight. The 11th annual Metis Festival and Talent show organized by the Willow Lake Metis Local 780 was held on September 26th. The talent show was a crowd pleaser. There were also events such as a crib and horseshoe tournament. I was in the crib tournament. There was lots of fun and competition by all contestants. I actually won one of the 50/50 draws. For any good deeds or concerns please e-mail, [email protected] or phone 780-334-0516.

VACATION If you have received an unsolicited vacation offer please be advised of the following:
• Some of the solicitations are valid, some are not. • Some offers are subject to you entering into a Timeshare
agreement. • Some offer a high end vacation but reserve the right to
change this location subject to availability
Research the company with the Better Business Bureau and other sources from the internet. If you have not requested information then "buyer beware" should be your thought process. Don't fall for a high pressure sales tactic, if it's a deal, it will be available again. If it is a prize you need not pay for it. If your vacation call asks you to press a number like "9" or "5" it does not allow them to take over your residential line.
