Connecting with Student Success
Fall Professional Development Week: August 11, 2015 - August 14, 2015
Oxnard College Colleagues, Welcome to the Fall 2015 Professional Development Week: Connecting with Student Success. The heart of every educational institution is its employees, individuals like yourselves whose talents and devotion make the difference in the lives of every student you touch through deed, word, and action. Therefore, ongoing professional development, as represented by this year’s FLEX week activities, ensures that we give the best of ourselves to our students every day. I encourage you to take advantage of the many excellent opportunities presented this week to expand your professional horizons as we continue to demonstrate the educational philosophy of Oxnard
College: that “dedicated professionals create an environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity, nurtures learning, and develops an understanding of society and how individuals can influence its workings.” It will be my distinct pleasure to partner with you in this endeavor over the coming year. I would like to thank the Professional Development Committee for providing an outstanding slate of professional training opportunities for us. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our students. Cordially, James M. Limbaugh, Ph. D. Interim President
Greetings Oxnard College, As your new Classified Senate President, I know that this will be an exciting year and classified are going to be integral to the “connecting” students to their success. I am proud to represent you in this journey. I invite all classified staff to join me for lunch and hijinks on Tuesday! Cheers, Jennifer Clark, Classified Senate President
Dear Colleagues, Welcome back to an exciting new year at OC. Last year was a recordsetting year, in terms of increases in the awarding of diplomas and certificates. There are more clubs and activities on campus than ever before and so many of you helped students become more engaged in education. Our athletic teams and programs are kicking youknowwhat. From every part of campus, from literature (we have a new literary journal at OC!) to the arts (the exhibits at the McNish are wonderful) to all the sciences and social sciences and everything in between, we have worked hard to create student enthusiasm that is felt all across campus. Thank you to the many faculty who have attended SITE and other training related to student learning and engagement. Thank you to our academic administrators for supporting faculty development and innovation. A huge thank you to our classified, who not only gave OC their all last year, but worked in changing and sometimes challenging new conditions to keep us up and running. A huge shoutout to all those who helped with SafeZone, with Multicultural Day, with the Agora Club and ASG. Lots of things have changed, but OC's commitment to its community has never wavered. All the best for a wonderful, happy and fun academic year, I hope you spend Flex Week getting centered and focused on student success and learning. Linda LeValley Kama'ila, Academic Senate President
Welcome! The Professional Development Committee takes great pleasure in presenting to you the flex program of “Connecting with Student Success”. Our college is poised to play a major role in the future success of the VCCCD. In order to maximize our potential, we will need to improve in how we connect with our students in many ways. We hope this program will inspire those improvements throughout our campus.
Remember to get your raffle ticket from each workshop and winners will be drawn at the President’s luncheon. Winners need not be present for lunch raffle. There will be a separate, mustbepresent drawing for players and fans at the Slowpitch Softball Game. All raffles are for faculty and classified only, sorry no student workers.
