Construction is Coming To Your Area Soon

Little Sugar Creek Tributary

Wastewater Replacement Projectcharlottewater.org

WHAT: State Utility Construction, under Charlotte Water’s supervision, will install a larger wastewater pipe to serve customers in the SouthPark area. The northern part of Park Road Park will be under construction from June 1, 2018 to June 1, 2019. Park users are encouraged to avoid construction areas during their visits.

WHEN: Construction will start in Park Road Park at Little Sugar Creek and a tunneling crew will start near Park Road at shelter # 3. Crews may begin staging material as early as May 7th.

You are invited to a drop-by meeting at Park Road Park (shelter # 2) near Closeburn Avenue on May 17th from 4:30 - 6:30 pm to learn more about construction and restoration.

WHERE: Construction of the new pipe will occur in construction easements.

WHAT TO: • Tunneling boreEXPECT pits - Crews will

tunnel under Park Road starting from the park side in June. Crews will also tunnel under Park South Drive at a later date.

• Clearing - CLTWater is coordinating with Park Road Park and city arborist to only remove what is needed to allow excavation of wastewater pipe. When and where possible, trees are preserved.

• Pipe delivery and storage – Pipe and other materials are delivered and stored within the construction easements.

• Establishing a safe work zone – Fencing will be put in place and pipe will be stabilized to prevent it from moving.

• Trench digging (five to twenty-feet deep)

• Underground rock blasting to install the pipe when unable to crack rock through other methods. The area will be monitored with seismographs to gauge earth vibration levels. Blasting is a standard construction procedure and all safety precautions will be taken. Residents may hear a warning horn just prior to the blast.

• Construction traffic (excavators, dump trucks) along the creek, within the easements or road right-of-way.
