Welcome back to the start of term two. It was great to see our students again this morning after what was a fantastic day of professional learning for all of or staff yesterday. Work continues to proceed with the installation of our new air conditioning units and this week we will have our solar panels installed. Unfortunately, the power upgrade is still yet to occur but this will have no impact on the provision of heating in classrooms as the weather changes. With the restrictions on ANZAC Day attendance this year the Captains and I will be representing Canowindra High School at the community service on Sunday. The school will conduct its own service which all students and staff will attend next Monday morning. This Thursday we see the return of Rural Cup with our school heading off to Molong Central School for round one. This annual competition continues to be a major event for our students who eagerly anticipate both the sporting and social interactions shared. Congratulations to Ryan Ellis who has been successful in being selected for a place in the 2021 TEN4TEN Leadership Dialogue. This is a wonderful opportunity for Ryan and follows on from the very successful experiences of Claire Wright during 2020.

Former student’s success at Sydney Royal Easter Show

Our former student and school captain Joanna Balcombe made a name for herself at The Sydney Royal Easter by judging the Suffolk, Hampshire Down and handler competitions. Jo spoke to ‘The Land’ and had this to say about her experience. "I've probably been judging since the age of eight or nine and I've been doing proper judging since 2017. I got involved because my family has got its own Poll Dorset stud and since a young age I've been going to shows to show sheep, so I got involved that way. I picked up a lot of judging techniques from the years showing as well as through all of the junior judging competitions as well. On top of that, I've had a lot of mentors help me along they way and they are all in Sydney this year, which is really special. Junior judging has honestly been massive for me. People have told me it's nice to have some younger judges coming through and I agree that we need that youth coming through. It's good that once you go through all of the junior judging competitions you begin to get jobs judging at this level as well. I've met so many great people through junior judging and you find that every competition you go to you will know someone.” A massive congratulations to Joanna from everyone at Canowindra High School on her amazing achievement. We look forward to seeing what she gets up to in the future. Joanna Balcombe at The Sydney Royal Easter Show

Successful staff development day Yesterday we held a staff development day for all our teaching and support staff. The day consisted of lots of First Aid training and professional learning. All staff completed their CPR training through Royal Life Saving and our First Aiders refreshed their skills.

Western Region Dance Camp During the last week of term 1, six of our best dancers were lucky enough to attend the Western Region Dance Camp held in Bathurst. Nina Merchant, Bella Gordon, Emily Thomas, Georgia Wakeling, Ella Breen and Chloe Bellach spent three days perfecting their techniques in jazz, contemporary and hip hop. The girls were especially excited to take a lesson from Emmanuel Rodriguez who is a member of the Australia’s Got Talent winning dance team, Justice Crew.

2021 Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday of the last week of term 1 we held our annual Athletics Carnival, the day was enjoyed by all with students and staff getting into the spirit by wearing their house colours. It was amazing to finally be able to undertake whole school physical activity the way we usually would. The weather held up nicely for the whole day with not a cloud in the sky. We had some amazing record breakers throughout the day, smashing records.
