STEM Prepares Scouts For Today AndTheir Future.
The BSA’s STEM initiative allows Scouts to explore STEM-related concepts andlearn how STEM knowledge is used in
everyday life and the professional world.The aim is to expose youth to new
opportunities and help build interest inthe STEM-related careers that are so
crucial to our future economy. To support this exploration of STEM, theBSA debuted the Nova and Supernova
Awards program. The initiative promotesenthusiasm towards STEM and offers
recognition and advancement for Scoutsabsorbed in STEM learning.
Events
The STEM Committee hosted over 21events in 2017 including Scoutbotics,Boy Scout and Cub Scout Nova days,
STEM University (UMSL, SEMO, SIUC,SIUE), and Cub Scout STEM Days.
These events give Scouts an outlet tolearn from professionals in the field while
earning badges. In addition to theseevents, STEM hosted it's 3rd Annual
Einstein Dinner recognizing theaccomplishments of 89 Supernova
award recipients .
Invention Trailer The STEM Mobile Invention Lab visited
over 30 sites, providing Scouts and otheryouth with a new outlet to enjoy STEM.
Because of this effort, the Invention Labis now available through reservations at
district events, meetings and more.
Our Partners hosted over 150 workshopsand events in 2017 allowing Scouts to
enjoy more classes in STEM whileinteracting with local organizations and
companies.

Exploring Exploring provides exciting activities andone-on-one mentorship for youth looking
to discover their future career. Due tothe need of increased STEM educationto further our next generation, STEM-
based Exploring Posts have beenestablished throughout the Council toincrease the visibility and possibility ofSTEM for our youth. These Exploring
Posts served 888 youth and consist of finance,
entrepreneurship, health science,business, engineering, and robotics.
