SpiritualOur thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time and with their loved ones at home. We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace.

SEPTEMBER CATHOLIC UPDATE: From Worship to World, Sent Forth as the Body of Christ. Father Thomas Richstatter explores with us how we are sent forth from Mass with the mission to become the presence of the risen Lord in our world, in our time and place. How as we pray for change in our world, we are all called to become agents of that change. Copies are available on the bookrack in

the Narthex; grab a copy on your way out of Church today, as you go to announce the Gospel of the Lord!

Gace Notes, Embracing the Joy of Christ in a Broken World: by Lorraine V. Murray “This book is my effort to do the work the Lord has given me. It is my attempt to convey the small illuminations that reveal His presence in the everyday life. Whether I’m volunteering in a nursing home, playing with my grandchildren, anguishing over my illness, or clipping roses in my garden, it seems I encounter Christ everywhere. I pray this book will give you insights into the ordinary moments that reveal Christ’s grace in your life. I pray that it will sustain you in bitter moments of sorrow and pain.” From the Author’s Introduction. You can find this book in the Inspiration (orange) section of the library.

“Open your heart so that the word of God may enter it, take root in it, and bear fruit there for eternal life.”

St. John Vianney

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). These words of Jesus provide one of the most fundamental Scriptural descriptions of what we mean by “Church.” For whatever else the Church is, whether in the local, regional, national or international spheres, it is first of all us “gathered together” in the name of Jesus. This is not only a description but an ideal and a goal from which we strive. Above all, we aim to be a community gathered together in His name, for His – not our – purposes. Here’s where we run into trouble. To what extent does our gathering together show society that the most fundamental meaning of life is found only in the love of God and neighbor? The followers of Christ participate in the Mass, of course. But we do this in order to celebrate and nourish our life as Disciples of Christ. That is why we gather in twos and threes, hundreds, thousands and millions, for all kinds of purposes where Christ is present in our midst. Lord Jesus, help me to follow you in all things. (Excerpts from “Living With Christ” September 2014)

COFFEE WITH CHRIST begins next Sunday, September 14, at 9:15 a.m., in the Banquet Hall. Sr. Carol Bauer, SC, will be with us from Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton and will talk with us about end-of-life care and decision making. She will explore the religious beliefs and

ethical principles that guide these efforts. It is important to balance clinical conditions, treatment options, legal considerations and our Catholic faith anytime we face these kinds of issues. She will answer such questions as “What is Comfort Care?”; “Why are advanced directives important?”; “What should we be asking of the care team?” among others. She brings with her a wide array of ministerial experience so make it a point to come enjoy a cup of coffee with fellow parishioners and learn a bit more of how our faith impacts our lives, especially in trying times such as these.

Help CenterST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded the hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers. For further information, contact Mike Begley at 667-2882 or the Parish Office at 667-3419. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be Sunday, September 28. Please meet in the north parking lot of the church for a 5:45 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.

Homework Help Needed: After a long hot day of canning tomatoes or because of the language barrier, many parents are unable to help their children with homework. Can you commit to one day each week from now until early October? It could be anytime after school. For more information or to volunteer, call Nelda Schwab (669-4583).

Catholic Social Services is currently signing up individuals for the Extra Help program. The Extra Help program can assist individuals who are on a Medicare Part D Prescription plan and still need financial help paying for their prescriptions. For more information or to sign up, please call 1-800-521-6419.
