Grammar Adverbs
*They are used to describe how an action happens . *They tell us more about the verb . *They come after the verb . ex: Thunder crashes loudly . The snow fell softly . These children never come late . *Adverbs are usually formed by adding “ly” at the end of the adjective . Quick → Quickly Loud → Loudly *When adding “ly” to an adverb ending with “y” , We change it into “i” Angry → Angrily Happy → Happily *Some adverbs are irregular , nothing is added to the adjective . Grammatical structure : 1. Plurals 2.There is/There are: to say that something or someone exists. e.g. There is a table in the room. There are four children in the garden.
The question form:
e.g.: Is there a table in the room? Yes, there is / No, there isn't. The negative form: e.g.: There isn't a table in the room. There aren't any children in the garden. 2. Some /Any : *we use (some) and (any) with: a) Plurals : pens, cars, …..etc b) Uncountable nouns: sugar, bread, water ….. etc
*we use ( some , somebody , someone , something ) in the positive sentence e.g. we have got some money . I'm hungry . I want something to eat . There is somebody at the door . *we use ( any, anybody , anyone, anything ) in negative sentence and most questions e.g. we haven't got any money . I'm not hungry . I don't want anything to eat . Is there anybody at the door ? 4- The comparison of adjectives: Use : to compare two things or people Form : adjective + er + than e.g. Tom is taller than Ned

** A great many short adjectives form there comparative degree by adding er , but :
a- If the adjective ends in -e , we only add -r e.g. large → larger wide →wider
b- If the adjectives ends in -y after a constant, change y into -ier. e.g. easy → easier heavy→ heavier
c- If the adjectives end in a constant after a vowel, double the last letter, then, add -er
e.g. big → bigger fat→ fatter
d- Some adjectives are irregular e.g. good → better bad → worse

Although sharks are known to be dangerous , they don't often attack people . Most sharks live and eat in very deep water , so you will not meet one when you are swimming near the shore.
