Cooee Primary School Newsletter
8 February 2018
Department of Education
Dear Parents/Guardians
A big WELCOME to all our students and families. We have had a very settled start to the 2018 school
year and I thank all our staff for the organising and preparation that occurred for this to happen. The students
definitely look smart in their school uniforms and returned to school with big smiles. We are very excited about
the year ahead and we will publish a list of events in next week’s newsletter.
UPGRADES
Over the holidays we have upgraded several areas of our school. Many would have
walked in along the new pathway from the back gate through to the playground,
completed by Somercam Buildering Service. It definitely is a smoother, safer walk.
We also have had a team of volunteers from National Job Link
who worked tirelessly under the supervision of Mrs Linda
Smith to complete a playground blitz in our playground and
Prep yard. They cut back plants and shrubs, weeded, created
new gardens and shovelled new bark under the Prep play
equipment on an extremely hot day. We sincerely thank them
for volunteering their time to assist us and help make our
school neat and tidy. Mr Lindsay Stonehouse constructed new raised garden beds in the
Prep and he is presently building a surprise for the children to play in outside. A big
thank you to Mr Boarder and Mrs Knight for their grounds and classroom cleaning and preparation. Everywhere
looks great.
We have also started renewing the carpet in our school hallway with grey carpet tiles. The job will be completed
on Saturday and once all done, we will be placing squares of colour to finish off the project, making our hallway
bright and cheerful.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY BBQ - THURSDAY FEBRUARY 15th.
I would like to invite all families along to our WELCOME BACK BBQ to be held in our playground on Thursday
February 15th from 5.00pm to 6.30pm. Please join us for an evening of activities and
challenges in our playground. Sausages and cordial will be provided at no cost, however we
would like you to complete the form on the back of this sheet and return it to school by
Tuesday February 13th to assist us with catering. All teachers will be present for you to
meet with informally. Please come along and join in the fun.
Physical Education 2018
Physical Education this year will be held on Tuesday. To enable the children to fully
participate in the wide range of activities, it would be highly beneficial for them to have
shoes that enable them to run safely and either shorts or tracksuit trousers to allow
ease and comfort of movement. In addition, if your child is unable to participate at any
stage, could they bring a brief note reflecting this.

CLASS MEETINGS
Next week we are offering the opportunity for parents to meet with class teachers to find out about class programs
and to have any queries answered. Each meeting will run for approximately 20 minutes and will be held in the
respective classrooms. It would be great if you could make it, however, if you are unable to, please feel free to chat
with your child’s classroom teacher before or after school at any time. If you would like a longer time to speak with
any of our teachers, please talk with them to make an appointment. Please contact me by phone or pop in to chat
with me if you have any queries.
Mrs Temby will not hold a meeting as the Kindergarten program was discussed at length during the Kindergarten
Orientation Evening held at the end of 2017.
SCHOOL SAFETY
Classroom teachers have spoken with students about safety at school. Next week we will be
running through our Fire Drill and Lock Down procedures to ensure that all children are aware
of what they should do in the case of an emergency.
Kind regards,
Marcelle Norton
Principal
