LEARNING TO SURVIVE

My name is Dr. Russell Horine , and I am about tointroduce you to a world the vast majority of civilians willnever know exists. It’s the world inhabited by professionalsoldiers, serious streetfighters, government “black bag” op-eratives and inner-city cops… all of who face violence anddanger every day, and deal with it in ways you could neverdiscover on your own.

But the purpose of this special report is not to “wow”you with the exploits of men in real combat. No. Thepurpose of this special report is much more serious, andmuch more personal to you. Think of it this way: If youwere in a situation where, exactly one short hour from now,you had to go out and face someone who wanted to killyou, then reading this report is exactly the way you’d wantto spend that hour. In one hour, you will know more than99% of American men about surviving dangerous situa-tions and fighting to win .

My wish is that this report becomes a standard partof every good man’s wardrobe – I want to see scuffed anddog-eared copies of it inside executive’s briefcases, on thenightstands of family men, and in the knapsacks of youngmen just going out into the cold, cruel world. What youlearn here is more than self-defense – it’s tactical sur-

8vival .

And, it’s the most important thing you willever read the rest of your life.

I know what you’re thinking: Where do I get offsaying this? Well, the answer is simple: I run aninternational company that has put me in constantclose-quarters contact with the most dangerous menin the world. Sometimes these men find us; some-times we seek them out. We have over two dozenrespected, famous and feared fighting experts in our“stable” of talent… and I will introduce you to themthroughout this report.

You’ll meet, for example, Paul Vunak , whothe Navy SEALS sought out to teach them hand-to-hand combat when the training they got via the stan-dard Navy channels was found to be inadequate.Paul is widely known among the “martial arts crowd”as the man who picked up Jeet Kune Do (the mostelite of martial arts) where Bruce Lee left off. (BruceLee, you may or may not know, was the most fa-mous martial artist in the world at one time, but soonafter he went to Hollywood to do “Enter The Dragon”,he met an untimely death.)

You’ll meet Tom Proctor , a mild, rather smalland unassuming man pushing 50 with a sweet tem-

perament… who is nevertheless undefeated in ille-gal “pit” fights (for money) against larger, meanerand more skilled opponents.

You’ll meet Vladimir Vasiliev , a former-Rus-sian “super soldier” in the elite Spetznaz secretservice of the Russian Army (so well-trained in ev-ery aspect of combat that even the dreaded KGBwere terrified of them). When Vladimir escaped toCanada from Russia, everybody wanted him – in-cluding the US military, eager to learn his combatsecrets – but he came to us .

And you’ll meet many more – Army Ranger“double-tour” frontline veterans of Viet Nam… offic-ers from the famous DELTA force that fought inGranada… bounty hunters working the most dan-gerous “markets” in the country… big-city SWATcop trainers… heavily-decorated former Green Be-rets who, as civilians, were invited into the “WarRoom” during Desert Storm for their “dirty tricks”expertise… prison guards from the toughest “insaneward” jails in the world… winners of the pay-for-viewUltimate Fighting Challenge cage fighting events(which are so bloody they’re about to be banned inthis country)… “deep” government black bag op-eratives for hyper-secretive agencies the public neverhears about… assassins, streetfighters, body-guards, and knife-fighting experts. And a few morewho simply defy description, because what they dois so unbelievable to civilians who think the world isreally a nice place without horror or bloodshed.

What’s all this mean to you? Plenty. Mycompany, TRS, is the ONLY place in the entire worldwhere this kind of “over the top” expert talent hasever been assembled. Many of these guys don’tlike each other… most are loners and pretty unso-ciable… and all of them are “active ”, meaning they

“…The best… for non-martial artists who want tohandle real-life self-defensesituations like black belts.”

Men’s Journal – March, 2000

9are fighting full-time, teaching full-time, or serving“hot” duty in the trenches full-time.

None of these guys are philosophers. Theyhave spent their entire lives learning how to fight towin , and every single one of them has “been in theshit” (as combat veterans like to call all-out hand-to-hand fighting). You may be shocked to learn thatthe majority of “storefront” karate schools are run bymen who have never actually been in a fistfight be-fore… let alone life-or-death combat. Do youknow anyone who has a “storefront black belt” inanything? Pity him, my friend, because he wouldn’tsurvive two seconds against an experiencedstreetfighter. Real fighters laugh at “storefront blackbelt” martial artists.

If you ever are in a situation where your life isat stake – or the lives of your loved ones – you willbless the day you discovered this report. Becausewhat you are about to learn comes from the expe-rience of men who have faced situations a thou-sand times more deadly and horrible than youcould ever imagine … and who walked away thevictor. Because they knew the secrets of fighting towin. Some have been shot… stabbed… beaten withhammers and steel-toed boots… and felt the life slipaway from an opponent. They know the face ofDeath and the blood and sweat of real combat.

Think about that when you see the secretsthey are about to share with you.

We’re going to cover five categories here. In

Vladimir Vasiliev is a master of covertcombat arts. A former member of the eliteRussian Spetznatz, Vladimir is the real deal.

His prowess and intelligence landed him inthe Soviet Special Forces program, only onein three-thousand Russian soldiers qualifyfor this branch of the Army. His entry intothe Moscow Military Institute forever so-lidified him as one of the world’s best-trained and most deadly soldiers. Vladimirhas trained against the KGB’s units in livebattle scenarios; hunting, stalking and sub-duing eacy other. He even had to fight hisway out of military prison work camps as partof his training. To call Vladimir Vasiliev amaster martial artist would be an understate-ment. He is a fighting specialist with a

knack for teaching that may be unparalled. Many of his students has sworn up and downthat he has a force field around him.

Numerous covert military operations andPOW rescues deep into enemy territory makehim the master!

10my job running this company, I have been in the“catbird” seat where I could see the best of the bestdoing their stuff… and over the last ten years I’vebeen slowly putting this report together with just oneidea in mind: To take someone (perhaps like you)who has no fighting experience whatsoever…no special skills… no physical advantages ofsize or agility… and no “killer instinct”… andgive you a set of skills you can learn quicklyand without intense training. So, if you ever areconfronted with danger, you will not just have a fight-ing chance… but you will also now know the samesecrets used by the best fighters on the planet tosurvive and win in “crunch time”.

Most American men never learn to fight. Ahandful take some boxing at the YMCA, or a coupleyear’s worth of bullshit karate, or learn a few trickswhile trading punches in high school fist-fights. Mostpeople have no idea what a real fight even looks like(until they’re suddenly in one) – and Hollywood hasfed the myths with increasingly ridiculous examplesof staged brawls.

It’s too bad, too. A lot of men watch Arnold or

Sly or Segal or Chan stomp bad guys on film andthink “yeah, I can do that”. Let me tell you rightnow: You can’t. There are bad guys out there whohave spent every waking second of their miserablelives learning dirty tricks and evil moves meant tosend you into an instant world of unbearable painso they can rob you and do horrible things to yourfamily. The “real” bad guys out there don’t wait foryou to hit them first, they don’t play fair, and theylove it when you step back and throw a John Wayne-style roundhouse punch their way. You’ll be on theground before your fist passes your shoulder.

Get this straight, right now: You can’t waituntil you’re in trouble to learn how to defend your-self. It’s too late at that point. The bullying crimi-nals of this modern world aren’t getting in your facebecause they want to play around. They want yourmoney… and, according to the FBI, there’s a verygood chance they will kill you after getting it just forthe “thrill” of watching you die. They want your car…and will cripple you for life if you don’t move fastenough. They want to hurt, rape, torture and kill…and if you think that “being a nice guy” will save yourass from this reality, please throw this report awayright now. I don’t have time for guys who are de-luded.

The world ain’t safe, and may never be. Themain job of the police is mopping up AFTER a crimehas been committed – they don’t even pretend to beable to prevent a crime from happening to you any-more. And even if you dial 911 immediately, theywon’t get to you until the worst is over. You’re onyour own , whether you realize it or not. The smartguys realize it, and do something about it. That’swhy you ordered this report.

You lock your doors at night for a good rea-

11son… and you simply can never know when you’llturn a street corner and be face to face with themost dangerous situation of your life . It canhappen in a family movie theatre parking lot… in therestroom of a nice restaurant … at a downtown stop-light in broad daylight… at the local grocery store,at your bank, your park, your favorite burger drive-through, your front yard, or in your house late atnight.

And as a man, you have responsibilities noone told you about, but you know you have themjust the same. No one had to tell you – it’s justyour job, as a man, to protect your family andloved ones from danger. You can bring home a fatpaycheck, love your kids and wife more than life it-self, keep up a nice house and be kind to neighborsand dogs and go to church twice on Sunday… but if

you can’t protect the people who RELY on you whenit counts… then you’ve failed as a man.

Look, I’m not trying to scare or insult you. Tenyears ago, I didn’t have a clue what I would do if Iwas suddenly thrust into a dangerous situation. Ijust didn’t know, and didn’t think about it. I wish toGod there was a report like this one out then. I waslucky – I never had to confront my own inadequa-cies as a protector. But a good friend of mine – alsoa health professional – did. He got jumped, for ab-solutely no reason at all, by three punks while walk-ing to his car. They didn’t want his money, didn’twant his car, didn’t want anything but to stomp himinto the ground. He didn’t know what to do, neverraised a hand in defense, and went to the ground ina “fetal position”, where he was kicked into uncon-sciousness. Woke up in the hospital, and stayed

Navy SEAL combat instructor Paul Vunak canturn anyone into a potent hand-to-hand fighter. His name may not ring any bells with you butSEALS, FBI, CIA and a dozen police departmentSWAT teams certainly know him. He is withoutquestion one of the most respected and dan-gerous men in the world at hand-to-hand com-bat... teaching it, and using it! Paul hasstudied with the legendary Dan Inosanto, origi-nal partner of martial art legend Bruce Lee,in the art of Jeet Kune Do. Paul, who is theinternationally acknowledged master of JeetKune Do, is considered as the man who went onwhere Bruce Lee tragically left off. Forover 20 years, Paul has mixed it up with everysort of expert you can imagine... and inthousands of situations where his life was onthe line.

Vunak, Paul

TRS has produced three simple and easy tolearn video packages with Paul Vunak including:Street Safe, Street Safe II, and the R.A.T.Interactive Training System.

The U.S. Navy SEALS asked Paul to teachthem his unique system after an exhaustivesearch worldwide for the best hand-to-handcombat fighting system in existence. Youwill be amazed at how simple and easy to learnPaul’s devastating system really is!

12What I was looking for – and, again, it took 10

long years to put this report together – were thesimple … easy to learn … and really effectiveskills and strategies that these guys actually usein real fights . Not the moves that take a while tomaster, and are quickly forgotten without intensivetraining. Not the moves that you have to work yourway into, that take agility or strength or endless drill-ing.

Nope. I wanted ONLY the stuff that could bequickly picked up … quickly learned… easily un-derstood… and actually USED by guys like you andme. I kept asking myself: Could I explain this to aguy…• Who’d never fought before…• Who was out-of-shape, with no special skills…• And explain it in under an hour…• And be confident he could USE it effectively in

“crunch time”?If anything didn’t pass this “easy and simple ”

test, I didn’t want it in this report. So, what you hold in your hands is the

world’s first compilation of “insider” fightingskills and secrets and tactics … used by the mostfeared and respected and successful fighters in theworld… and it’s all so amazingly simple you cantake one short hour to study this report… and USEwhat you learn immediately .

In that short hour – which you’ve already be-gun – you will go from “zero” to “sixty” without look-ing back. You will know more about real hand-to-hand combat than 99% of other men. You will be amember in the most elite “club” in the universe – the“club” of warriors with actual fighting skills andknowledge .

You will finally know the most closely-guarded

there for four painful weeks. The punks wouldn’thave cared if they’d killed him – they just wantedtheir “fun”.

I saw what the attack did to my friend – itcrippled him physically. But far worse was whathappened to him emotionally – it just devastatedhim. Took away his self-confidence, his sense ofhumor, his sense of being a man .

That’s one of the reasons I got into this busi-ness of dealing with deadly men . And it paid offalmost immediately (as I’ll explain below)… and Ihave no doubt whatsoever my wife and kids are safeand healthy and happy today because I took thetime to learn a few simple survival and fighting se-crets.

Here’s how I constructed this report: Iwatched these fighters do their stuff… trained withmany of them… and spent countless hours talkingwith them. They don’t open up easily... But, after awhile… after sharing drinks, and listening carefully, and asking the same questions over and over until Igot the answer I wanted… they finally “’fessed up”.

“This system teachesyou what will work in a

street fight...”

13secrets of the best fighting men anywhere.

So let’s get started. As I said, there are fivecategories I want to cover with you. Each is criti-cally important. The first 2 are about what goes onin your head – what we call “the warrior mindset ”.Very important – and, in most cases, all you’ll everneed. The final three categories are hard-core (butincredibly simple) physical skills you can use in afight – to get away, to gain “thinking time”, to makeyour attacker stop and think twice… and, if neces-sary, to put him down. So he won’t get up again tocause you problems.

Some of this is pretty vicious, so consideryourself forewarned. But do not be deluded – theis the REAL THING . It’s not playtime anymore. Ihave assigned myself the task of educating youabout the realities and tactics of handling yourselfin dangerous situations, and damn it, that’s whatI’m gonna do. All you need to do is pay attention.

Anyone can talk fighting (and a lot do)...but only a real fighter like Jim West can showyou how to survive and win in the real world.

Jim has actually been in over 600 bloodyhand-to-hand streetfights... and won everysingle one of them-- decisively! Jim earneda half a dozen Operation Desert medals inIraq during Operation Desert Storm. He waseven invited into the top secret Marine “WarRoom” to help plan offensive strikes. Hespent 15 years in the “black bag” arm of theGreen Berets earning him the coveted “Whiskey9” top secret clearance that only the best ofthe best soldiers ever receive. He trainsspecial forces in hostage rescue and JusticeDepartment agents in hand-to-hand combat. Allof that special training aside, Jim knows how

to quickly train people like you and me inthe “Dark Art” of truly nasty, vicious no-rules fighting.

There are no rules of “fair play” in reallife streetfighting and Jim West knows howto fight to win!

ZONES OF AWARENESS

Here we go:Your Zones Of Awareness: The very first – and easi-

est – thing we teach anyone getting into this stuff is how tobring your awareness up to speed. Cops, soldiers, streetfighters, agents… they all take this for granted, butthey too had to learn it early in their chosen careers.

Most people walk around in a state of un-awareness– in other words, they are oblivious to the world aroundthem. That’s how you get carjacked and robbed. The badguys love it when they spot someone wandering around thestreet not paying attention to their surroundings – thatmakes their job so much easier.

So, the first thing you must do is learn to adopt the“zones of awareness ” that professionals use to stay ontop of the world around them. Each group has its own wayof describing these zones – some call them “states”, oreven “lines in the sand”. But it all comes down to the samething: Fine-tuning your sense of what’s going on aroundyou.

Here are the general four states you need to knowabout:

Secret Nº 1

Page 16: Copyright 2000. TRS Direct • All Rights Reservedcdn.preterhuman.net/texts/wars_and_weapons/TRS_Fighting... · 2012-10-01 · Vladimir Vasiliev is a master of covert combat arts

16a. White. This is the ostrich with his head in the

sand, the shopper hauling armloads of grocer-ies out to her car without noticing who’s aroundher, the guy strolling down the street with hisgirlfriend oblivious of who’s following, you athome with the tv on and no idea of what’sgoing on right outside your door. This is thestate of “un-awareness” most people exist in.They’re in a world all to their own. When theywalk into a restaurant or bar, they head straightto a table and sit down, and couldn’t tell youwhether the other patrons were Yuppies, a gangof Hell’s Angels, or talking dogs. Soldiers andcops are NEVER in this state – it’s simply toodangerous a way to live. Even when asleep, theprofessional has his “antennae” out, constantlyaware of where he is and what’s going onaround him. This “white” state is the state ofthe victim. Completely oblivious, completelyvulnerable.

b. Yellow. This is the “resting” state of the savvyman. Most civilians reach something like thisstate only immediately after being robbed orbeaten up, and it’s in the form of near-hystericalparanoia. That’s not a good thing. Better thatyou simply learn to be in the “yellow” stateof “casual awareness” all the time. It’s easy– you just stay aware of what’s going on aroundyou. If you’re home, you notice when there’s anunfamiliar noise inside the house, or out on theporch. You just register that something’sdifferent. Outside, you are aware who’s aroundyou on the street, inside a room, in the nextroom if you can. When you enter a bar orrestaurant, you simply notice who the other

people are, register any suspicious types, andstay aware of them and their movements. In astrange city, you jack up your “yellow” stateeven more, so you never “suddenly” find your-self in a bad part of town – you notice whethershops are open or closed, whether the buildingsare run-down or nice, whether the peoplearound you are friendly or giving you the “eye”.The perfect “yellow” state is NOT paranoid – it’swatchful. Aware. You become an active partof your surroundings . Here’s a test: Withoutlooking up, can you describe the room you’re inright now? The next time you go into a restau-rant, sit down at your table upon first enteringand close your eyes – now, can you identifyevery other person in the place? As you walkdown the street, without looking behind you,can you describe who’s walking a few stepsbehind? You need to constantly “check”yourself for at least the next week before it willstart to become a natural part of your aware-ness. But a casually aware “yellow” state isthe resting state of the savvy man.

c. Red. This is the state professionals immediatelygo into when danger has reared its ugly head. Ifyou’re walking down the street, and you notice aguy following you, and you are sure he is aboutto accost you and cause trouble, you shouldimmediately enter the “red” state . That is thestate where you allow the adrenaline to pump, where you plan your moves, where you are to-tally prepared to act. Not understanding this“be prepared for trouble” state is why most civil-ians get into trouble – when faced with someone

Page 17: Copyright 2000. TRS Direct • All Rights Reservedcdn.preterhuman.net/texts/wars_and_weapons/TRS_Fighting... · 2012-10-01 · Vladimir Vasiliev is a master of covert combat arts

17ready to tear their head off, or asking for all theirmoney, or grabbing their wife, the average civiliansimply does not know what to do. He will getoutraged, maybe angry, probably scared… buthe will not have a clue what to do . The bad guyscount on this – they use surprise and shock astheir primary weapons, knowing most people willjust freeze up and go into a state of inactive panic. The “red” state, however, allows you to instantlygo into a state of mind where you will use whatyou know about self-defense, without hesitation .When your “yellow” state tells you the situationrequires you to go into “red”, you shift gears andbecome a man ready for action.

d. Black. This is the state of the professional athis most lethal. This is the combat soldier on

the front line, the cop facing an armed suspect, the “black bag” agent coming up on his oppo-nent. And, it’s the regular guy at home, investigating a noise inside his house at nightand coming across a bad guy there to hurt hisfamily. When your “yellow” state flashes “red”,and as you prepare to take action you realizeyou must “go to the wall” to protect yourself oryour loved ones… you must enter the “black”state. If, taking the bad guy out, you must uselethal force, then that’s what you do .

That’s a quick overview of the states. Now, Iwant to talk to you about “taking action”. It’s thehardest thing for a civilian to understand. Yet, know-ing what it means will save your life.

When you take a hardened, skilled profes-sional fighter, then go one step further...you get Chris Clugston.

Chris fought professionally for many years. He was rated number one in the world on Shootkickboxing in 1992, American Kickboxing ColoradoChamp for 2 years, and Maximum Total LightHeavyweight Champ, despite fighting in a higherweight class! He has earned black belts in 5different martial arts. He learned 7 differ-ent languages so he could travel to Russiaand East Germany and beyond to learn thefighting breakthroughs they had discovered. He was among the first to learn the Sovietscientific based skills that allow fightersto actually “imprint” devastating skills di-rectly into your brain.

Clugston, Chris

TRS has produced several instructionalpackages with Chris including “Combat JKD”,and “Comhrac Bas”.

His skills and involvement with the fringedwelling fighters around the world placesChris Clugston in the company of the mostdangerous men on the planet!

PHILOSOPHYI learned while training with local SWAT cops, about

the concept of “drawing a line in the sand ”. This hasnothing to do with bluffing. What it means is, you have inmind a distance… a movement… or a change in the situa-tion where you automatically decide to act.

In your “red” state, this action may be:• To leave . Just turn and walk away.• To run . To break for the nearest exit and get the hell

out of there.• To confront . To breach the codes of politeness and

say “What do you want? Stop right there and tell mewhat you’re doing.”

• To attack . When the situation has gone beyond yourother options, you do what you need to do to end thethreat.

The average guy doesn’t know when to act. Someonegets in your face, or challenges you, or takes something ofyours, or threatens your family, or breaks into your houseat night… most guys simply do not have a clue what todo next . Most guys live in that dumb Hollywood fantasywhere – because they are a decent guy – they will some-how “know” what to do in the clutch.

The truth is more brutal than that. The truth is,most guys will wander into the hallway at night, see a big

Secret Nº 2

20guy standing there in a mask, and they will wet them-selves in panic. Before they can make a move, theywill get taken down, possibly be killed. Most guysare in denial about this. They talk about having thatloaded gun next to the bed, and how they will blowaway anyone they catch breaking into their house. But they won’t. They will be utterly surprised, theywill have no plan in their head, and if they shootanyone it will be themselves in the foot or – worse –their visiting nephew sleepwalking.

Have you ever investigated a noise in yourhouse without taking a weapon with you? Most menhave. What would you do if you found one or twoguys in masks rummaging through your kitchen?Yell at them? Order them out? Threaten to call thepolice? You’d be laughed at. Or killed.

Criminals all share the same philosophy:They are looking for the “easy pickin’s ”. They goafter the little old lady who looks defenseless, or theguy with his head in the clouds, or the house withthe easy-to-pick locks. They do not lurk around look-ing to take on people who look like they can handlethemselves. They do not necessarily want a fight –they want money. Or your wife. Those who want“kicks” may actually look for a fight, but they willpick you out only if they believe they can take you.And don’t think your size will save you – when youdon’t know how to fight, the bad guys can SMELL iton you. And in the real world, fighters know thatsize is irrelevant to who wins. Often, it’s the bigguy who goes down first. (Most of the cops I know, after a year or two of experience, tell me they NEVERwant to fight the “little guys”. Too dangerous.)

So what does this mean in the real world? Ihave a personal story . Soon after I gave my familya little “pep talk” about being aware, my wife Helen

and my two young sons (4 and 6 years old) were inan underground parking lot, leaving a movie theatre.Helen, in her new “yellow” state of awareness, no-ticed a man following them about twenty yards be-hind – she would have never noticed before, neverlooked around, never believed that trouble would everstalk her and her kids. But she noticed this guy,and drew a “line in the sand” – she decided shewould walk down the aisle they were in, cut acrossthrough some cars, and head for her car… and if theguy followed, she would act. He did follow them, silently cutting through the cars behind them, andas soon as Helen reached her car, she turned andstared directly at him. Just stared with purpose, letting him know he had been noticed and recog-nized.

The result? He stopped, lowered his head, and quickly turned around and walked away. Helengot in the car and called security… and learned thatsomeone had been carjacked in that parking lot theday before, and suspicious men had been reportedlurking.

I know this sounds almost like common sense, but it isn’t. What would your wife or girlfriend havedone in that situation? Would she even have evennoticed being followed? If she did notice, what wouldshe have done?

How about yourself? What would you do if,tonight, you were confronted with a threat of violence? Most guys, again, have this Hollywood idea thatthey’d just deck their assailant… somehow. Thetruth – and if you’ve ever been around a bar fight, you know this – is more brutal.

Here is how the professional handles it: Ifhe can turn around and leave, he will. He doesn’tneed to prove anything to anyone, and doesn’t need

Page 21: Copyright 2000. TRS Direct • All Rights Reservedcdn.preterhuman.net/texts/wars_and_weapons/TRS_Fighting... · 2012-10-01 · Vladimir Vasiliev is a master of covert combat arts

21to fight, ever. If he can’t simply leave, then he willrun away. It is not cowardice to flee from suddendanger – it’s often the most sensible thing to do.But you must know that you CAN do it – it must bepart of your “red” awareness that you look for andalways have an escape planned. If you can’t run – ifyou have kids with you, or you can’t outrun the dan-ger – then confront the threat , putting the nextmove on him. My wife Helen, if staring the strangerdown didn’t work, would have said loudly next “Stopright there. What do you want?” And she wouldhave left no doubt that she was talking to him. It’strue that most criminals do not to come up on theirvictims face-to-face, because they don’t want to berecognized, and because they simply do not want

to interact in any way. Finally, at the very split-second that all other

options are no longer available, and the danger hasforced the professional to go into fighting mode, hewill stop all talk, stop all thought of escape, stop allnegotiations. And right there, he will fight. Mywife Helen now knows how to defend herself whenattacked, knows how to improvise weapons, carriespepper spray in her purse. You, after reading thisreport, will have a good “bag of tricks” to use to de-fend yourself, too… and to use offensively when thesituation demands action.

Let me tell you what I learned from the SWATcops about “lines in the sand ”. Cops know that abad guy with a knife is lethal within a certain num-

Ray Ellingsen allows you, the civil-ian, to own the skills that have madehim…UNTOUCHABLE!

22ber of feet (between 10 and 20 feet, or the distancehe can move in a heartbeat). It’s a lot more dis-tance than inexperienced people believe a man canmove and kill with a blade – and the cops know thisfrom unfortunate experience.

Therefore, when confronting a suspect armedwith a knife, the cop draws an imaginary “line in thesand” about 15 feet away. He orders the suspect todrop the knife. If the suspect doesn’t respond, butdoesn’t move closer, the cop will negotiate. How-ever, if the guy does move closer, even slowly, withthe knife, and crosses that “line in the sand”, thecop will consider it a lethal attack and will use le-thal force to counteract it. Cops learned this afterlosing officers who didn’t realize how fast a mancan move and stab, and who continued to negotiatewhile the suspect edged closer and then lunged. The cops didn’t know where to draw the line betweennegotiation and action. Now they do.

It’s like a “trip wire ”. My response to a threatis automatically triggered when that threat crossesa certain point. For example: If someone is in myhouse at night, with my family home, I will immedi-ately use lethal force. Immediately. I will not talk tohim, I will not identify him, I will not warn him. If Imake a mistake, I am prepared to live with the con-sequences. But that person could only have gotteninto my house, with my family home, after killing mydog outside, after disabling my alarm system, andafter coming through locked entrances.

This may seem shocking to you. In a “white”zoned world where nothing bad can ever happen you,it would be shocking behavior. But we don’t live inthat world. Last week, in my town, there were adozen burglaries, a homicide, several rapes, acarjacking, a couple of gang fights, a drive-by shoot-

ing. There are no areas in town that are free of crime. No one is armor-plated safe from worry.

It’s the opposite of being “paranoid”, actually. It’s having the freedom from indecision that para-lyzes most men. It’s being absolutely confidentabout how to act in any situation, no matter howunexpected. It’s being a man in a dangerousworld.

If I’m ever followed in a parking lot, as soon asI realize it I will turn and confront my follower. “Stopright there. What do you want? ” If he doesn’tstop, and I’m alone, I will run away. If I can’t run,and he doesn’t stop, I will be on top of him like ahorde of demons. I will not negotiate, I will notplead, I will not cower. And, I will suffer the conse-quences if I am wrong.

But I will never be indecisive . I learned thatthe hard way. I was in a NRA small firearms PoliceDevelopment Training (I get to go to these thingsbecause of my standing in the industry). I learnedhow to dismantle and reassemble a gun in the darkin seconds, and on the range I was in the top 10% inshooting accuracy.

But in the “scenario” part of the training, whereyou are placed in actual situations that cops faceevery day, I failed miserably … because I was in-decisive . In the “scenario” I was in, I tried to talk toan old man who seemed crazy and was threateningme, but I had no “trip wire” decision skills. I let himget too close… and I was “killed”. The experiencedSWAT cops laughed at me – the guys I had humili-ated on the range would have never let the crazyguy get so close. I learned my lesson.

Are you learning yours? The professionals have a very simple code to

live by: You stay away from trouble whenever pos-

23sible, using your advanced states of awareness. Youwalk away from situations you can walk away from. And… if you can’t leave… you FINISH IT. Rightthere.

But don’t think this is anything like the Holly-wood attitude of Sly or Arnold. It isn’t. In the realworld, real fights last only a few short seconds. Thereare no trading of blows, no toe-to-toe swing fests,no benign wrestling. When real fighters get in afight, they mean to take you down in the first move, and finish you with the second. Bam, bam and it’sover .

And there’s no gamesmanship, no fair play,no rules at all.

And… the professionals know you cannot relyon a gun to save you . In the “Levels Of Force ”understood by soldiers and cops, there are just fourtruths:• You cannot rely on your gun to be there when

you need it.• You can’t shoot an obnoxious person who isn’t

lethally threatening you.• Guns can’t make you safe without lots of training

and cold “trip wire” decision-making skills.• So… you MUST have a minimum of physi-

cal skills you can use when in danger.

FIRST MOVESAnd that brings us to the really juicy part of this free

report.First Moves: I’m going to highlight several of our “stable

of talent” in this section – Paul Vunak (SEAL trainer), ChrisClugston (a famous streetfighter), Jim West (former GreenBeret ), Tom Proctor (a famous “cage” fighter) and RayEllingsen (a weapons expert who trains police and federal“actives”).

You must understand, we are way past the “yellow”state now. Your “trip wire” has been tripped, your escapeoptions are closed, you cannot walk away. You are nowtaking action – you have decided to put whoever is threat-ening you down.

The idea of the first move is simple: You want toput your opponent into an instant, blinding world of intensepain, immediately disabling his ability to fight back. At thesame time, you do not want to get hit yourself. You aretaking the action to him.

If you have decided you must fight to end the threat, ifyour “trip wire” has been breached, you must act first . Thisruns counter to most people’s thinking – “How can I start afight? I’m not that kind of guy.”

This is utter nonsense. The fight does not “start” whensomeone lands a fist on your jaw. You will lose waiting for

Secret Nº 3

26that kind of clear signal. As Paul Vunak tells us,the key to winning is to know you’re in a fight be-fore the other guy does. This does not mean youshould be some kind of mindless bully, pushingpeople around. Just the opposite. You know yourboundaries, and when you decide it’s time for ac-tion, you act . (Paul, by the way, in his thousands ofstreetfights all over the world – from the back alleysof Manila to the sidewalks of Brooklyn – has almostnever been in a fight that lasted longer than a few

seconds .)Almost all fighters agree on the basics of your

first move . You must “Hit, Angle, and Put HimOff-Balance. ” If you are being attacked, that meansyou parry the incoming blow, step “off center” to avoidthe incoming energy, and strike your opponent fromthe side where his balance is weakest. If you haveinitiated the strike, you strike, move off center, andcontinue the strike to knock him off his balance.

There are few people in this worldwho have the talent to master any-thing that they want to. OlegTaktarov is one of those men.

By the time he was 18, he alreadyheld a Junior National Russian Jiu-Jotsu title. After a two year stintin the Russian Military, he becamethe premier hand-to-hand instructorin Russia. His contacts included, but were not limited to, Russia KGB,Spetznatz, Russian SWAT teams and"Special Division Alpha", a superelite unit of 180 superbly trainedpersonnel responsible for high levelanti-terrorist missions and guard-ing the country's top governmentofficals. If that weren't enough,Oleg is also an expert with the bestand deadliest Russian light weap-onry. After training the "best ofthe best" in the Solviet military,

Taktarov, Oleg

TRS produced an amazing fighting videopackage with Oleg titled the “InternationalWarrior Series”

Oleg competed in martial art through-out Russia.

Winning the National Russian Samboand Jiu-Jitsu Championships, Olegwent on to take the World Vale TudoChampionship and defeated Tank Ab-bot to win the title in the UltimateFighting Challenge 6. Oleg is trulya proven warrior.

Figure A

The “Pop-Up”

NOTE: The redirectionof incoming energy withthe “Pop-Up” allows evena small person to forcea much heavier man offhis feet and reelingbackwards.

Chris Clugston has a greatmove he calls the “pop up ”. Heinvented it after watching a lion takedown a Cape buffalo. (See FigureA.) It’s perfect when you are facedwith someone coming at you intenton wrestling you to the ground(where most fights end up). Youwant to step aside (even half a stepis fine, just to get out of the “train’spath”), lower your body, use yourback foot to “root” yourself, andpush up with your hands as if youwere shoving a sack of cement offa window ledge. This “redirec-tion” of incoming energy allowseven a small man to take amuch heavier man off his feetand reeling backwards.

28

Figure B

The “Eye-Jab”

NOTE: The “Eye Jab” is a great techniqueto buy time... merely grazing one eyeballwill make both eyes water profusely.

Paul Vunak has a simple technique to both“buy time” when you are surprised by an attacker, and to stop the aggression in its tracks. It’s theeye jab. (See Figure B) This is not the 3 Stooges– all you really want is the “flinch” response. If youmiss his eyes, he will still blink – he can’t help it,

it’s an automatic nervous sys-tem response. If you justtouch his eyes, they will im-mediately water and blur hisvision severely. If you hit witha full strike, you win the fight.(You still need a finishingmove, of course. See below.)

Ray Ellingsen explainsthe “off center ” concept verywell. He insists you NEVERgo straight up against any at-tack – it’s just senseless. Nomartial artist runs up againstdirect incoming energy. Yougo off-line, and chop ‘emdown.

By stepping aside, youblunt any incoming energy(and more easily avoid gettinghit)… you cut your opponent’soffensive weapons in half (byputting an entire side of himaway from you)… and you“open him up to three obvi-ous, devastating strikes ”(Figure C):1. Use your knee or foot to“go low ”, and come downhard on his knee. (This is a

very vulnerable part of any man, no matter howbig or muscular he is. A forceful sidewaysstrike to the knee will topple King Kong in-stantly.)

2. Use your fist or elbow to “go middle ”, and hithim either in the ribs or the stomach. (The

“Off Center”

NOTE: Nevergo staight upagainst any attack. As this series ofillustationsshows, bysimply step-ping offcenter andredirecting thethrust, you caneasily launch aviscious counterattack.

lower ribs are most vulnerable, but anywill do – if you’ve ever had a rib brokenor even bruised, you know much painyou can cause very quickly. You can’teven breathe with a stomped rib. Theabdominals, unless clenched, are opento strikes and will take the breathe outof him, too.)

3. Use the palm or side of your hand to“go high ” and hit him in his throat. (Ineven the strongest man alive, there areno muscles in the throat to protect thetiny bones and vulnerable cartilagethere. The carotid artery running upeach side of the neck is a “pipeline” tothe brain and when struck can knock aman out.)

30

Figure D

The “Shield”

NOTE: The “shield” can be 100% im-penetrable against even the most ex-pert black belt. In this case thedefender “negates” a punch by attack-ing the shoulder of the striking arm.

Tom Proctor invented his “shield ”as a way to defend himself againstbigger and more skilled men in the“cage” fights he was in – where therewas no place to run. (See Figure D)The shield is simple and easy to do…but very effective in keeping anattacker at bay, protecting yourselffrom blows (especially when sur-prised), and “opening him up” to one ofthe above strikes. The Muay Thaikickboxers who fought Tom called thishis “Voodoo Defense ”, because theywere unable to get by it.

The bottom-line “skill” you mustlearn in any altercation is that youmust start the action , and never relyon being “reactive”, responding only toactual physical assault. Know yourboundaries , and when they areviolated and you are forced into action,ACT. If you are “jumped” or attackedfrom behind, get off-line as quickly asyou can and disable your attacker.Never willingly allow yourself to bestruck.

FINISH MOVESRemember that most fights end in a matter of sec-

onds. If you are unprepared, or oblivious to the fact you areeven under attack, you will quickly be put down and uncon-scious. That is unacceptable in today’s world, especiallywhen people are depending on you to protect them.

On the other hand, once you realize you are in a fight– when all your other options are gone, and it’s time to act– you, too, must act within the space of just a few seconds.Parry or hit, step off-center, and strike, putting him off bal-ance and in pain or shock. Then finish the job. No matterhow quick you are in the first second, you will lose the fightif you allow your advantage to pass. Finish it!

I’ve chosen the finishi ng moves of sev-eral fighters here, based on their utter simplicity and easeof learning. There is Paul Vunak again, Mark Hatmaker (avery respected American martial artist), Randy Wanner(world-class fighter who specializes in going bare-handedagainst weapons), Mike Goldbach (who trains SWAT cops),Vladimir Vasiliev (a Russian “super soldier” from the eliteSpetznaz elite forces who escaped to Canada), and BobTaylor (two-tour Viet Nam veteran, U.S. Army Rangers specop).

Secret Nº 4

34 Figure E

The “Head Butt”

NOTE: Grab the back of your opponent’sneck and thrust the top of your headupward into the nose of your opponentwhile you pull his head downward.

One of the best finishing moves is thehead-butt (see Figure E). As Paul Vunakteaches, you can do it wrong and still winthe fight. Your head has the weight and sol-idness of a bowling ball , and by simplysmashing your upper forehead against theface of your opponent, you are hitting himwith tremendous disabling force. (Warning :Do not close your eyes while delivering ahead-butt, or you may seriously disorientyourself.) Just grab his ears or the hair atthe back of his head, and ram your 20 poundskull into his nose. Paul: “In reality, as soonas you deliver this blow, it’s lights out andthe party’s over.” Even if you miss his nose, anywhere you do hit will deliver knockout-strength trauma.

Paul also likes the ear slap , sayingit’s like taking a sledge hammer to the sideof someone’s head. Don’t punch, you’ll hurtyour hand. Just cup your hand and slaphard , creating a disorienting and disabling“vacuum” blow.

Page 35: Copyright 2000. TRS Direct • All Rights Reservedcdn.preterhuman.net/texts/wars_and_weapons/TRS_Fighting... · 2012-10-01 · Vladimir Vasiliev is a master of covert combat arts

35

Figure F

The “Choke Hold”

NOTE: Pressing the bicep and forearm intoeither side of the windpipe will cut off theblood supply to the head. By locking yourarms together and pressing down on the backof your opponent’s head, you will knock himunconscious in seconds. Use caution with this!

Another move, favored byMark Hatmaker (and others),is the choke hold . But bewarned , as always – youmust take responsibility fordelivering any finishingblow. The choke hold is dan-gerous, and if you do not re-lease him when he passesout, you can kill him. This isnot about killing – I am not akiller, and I don’t believe youare, either. This is about self-defense and survival whenall other options are gone.If you are attacked by a larger, meaner, and more skilled op-ponent, and you cannot runaway, you must be preparedto put him down to save yourown life in the fastest way pos-sible, regardless of the threatto his health.

In the choke hold (FigureF), you cut off the blood sup-ply to the head via the ca-rotid artery. Get behind him,put your elbow under his chin,so your bicep covers one sideof his neck and your forearmthe other, and lock your otherhand over your arm andsqueeze.

36

Figure G

The “Thigh Kick”

NOTE: Forget the kick to the groin... afar higher percentage shot is a hard kickto the backside of the thigh where theSiatic Nerve runs. This will disable youropponent with a wicked “Charlie Horse”.

Mike Goldbach may appear to bea normal everyday guy with no greatsize, strength or agility, but he retiredas a light heavyweight in kickboxingwithout ever being defeated or havinghis championship taken away from him.The finishing techniques that Goldbachbrings to the table are simplydevestating. They have been provensimple and highly effective by Goldbachin the ring as well as countless of streetbrawls and bar fights.

Hitting the thigh produces an im-mensely painful “charley horse” that willtake him to his knees, unable to walk.(You’ve seen this injury in footballgames.) The groin is a low-percentagestrike, because men can quickly closetheir thighs to protect the valuablesthere… but if you have an open shot, take it. It’s instant “game over ”. (Idon’t like the way many “store front”martial art classes teach women to kickmen in the “balls”. It looks easy in themovies, but if the guy is in an aggres-sive stance, it is almost impossible tokick him in the groin. You can do it ifhe is unaware you are kicking, but thatis not the situation you usually findyourself in. Still, the groin can be anexcellent target, as shown below.)

37Figure H

“Shin Rake & Stomp”NOTE: When grabbed

from behind, simplydig your heal into theshin of your opponentand scrape downward. To add insult, alsostomp down hard ontophis foot.

Bob Taylor – one of the shorter men wework with (but also one of the meanest andmost skilled) — likes to drop to one knee, deliver an uppercut with his fist to the groin– much easier to control than your foot. “Grab‘em and twist ,” he says.

Taylor also uses his shoe effectively, hit-ting the shin, sliding down and stomping thetender bones of your opponent’s foot. He callsit “the shin rake ”, and you can imagine howpainful it is. (Figure H) The shin is a verytender place, again with no muscle over it nomatter how beefy your opponent is. And thefoot can be crunched easily, unless coveredby steel boots. (Taylor also points to the footas your “escape hatch ” if you are attackedfrom behind and held in a bear hug – if youcan’t get your hands into his eyes, or behindyou to twist his testicles, then stomp downon his foot with your heel. He’ll let go.)

38Figure I

The “Knee Pop”

NOTE: An easy way to force a largeopponent to the ground is to step onhis foot (anchoring it down) and bendyour knee into his knee.

Vladimir Vasiliev discovered a uniquestrike (while in combat) that allows you to takeyour opponent out without taking your handsout of your pockets. You step hard on his toe(even if he’s wearing hard shoes), push yourknee into his knee, and follow through. Youcan use either foot, to either of his feet. (Fig-ure I) The human body is not designed towithstand force on the knee like this. You,going forward, are making a natural movement.Him, with his knee going backward, will suf-fer damage and go down.

39Figure J

The “Throat Jab”

NOTE: By forcing your finger into the softV just below the Adams apple you will drivea large person quickly to his knees. Addmore force and you damage the wind pipe.

Randy Wanner points outthe finishing targets you need toknow about:• Break the nose , and you will

blind him with pain.• Take out his eyes , and he

cannot see to attack you.(Randy uses his thumbs.)

• Take out his air , and hecannot breathe. The carotidartery, the esophagus (windpipe), or his floating ribs.(His esophagus attack isamazingly effective (FigureJ). You stick a finger in thesoft V just below his Adam’sapple and push down.Immediate pain, and you willdrive him to his knees.(Keep pushing, and you willcause damage to his windpipe.)

40 Figure K

The “Chin Blast”

NOTE: Place your hand on youropponent’s chest and quickly throw up acrushing elbow strike through the chin.He is now severly disorientated and histhroat is wide open for a strike.

Lastly, if you are pinned in a corner bya larger attacker, Jim West teaches a simpletechnique called a “chin blast ”. (Figure K)Place your hand on the chest of the aggres-sor and quickly drive your elbow upward. This will snap the head back furiously, caus-ing instant disorientation and opening up histhroat for your hand or elbow.

Against WeaponsFighting bare-handed against weapons: Next to fight-

ing against multiple opponents, this is the most asked-foradvice we get. I cannot show you how to fight againstmultiple opponents here, because the skills take more prac-tice and more finesse than I can show you in print. Youneed to see a videotape to understand how to easily “out-gun” more than one attacker. (I have several recommenda-tions below.) I also cannot show you how to disarm some-one pointing a gun at you, because it is too complex toexplain in print (though still easy enough to learn whenseen). You need to see a video demonstration. (I suggestRandy Wanner and Bob Taylor’s Gun And Knife Disar-mament tape – also suggested by Col. Tom Brown, pub-lisher of Soldier Of Fortune Magazine . You can call TRSand ask for it.)

I can give you clear advice about fighting bare-handed against someone armed with a knife. As PaulVunak says, run . You will be cut in a fight against a blade– know that going in. Never mind that Hollywood says youcan fight against a knife and not get bloody. It’s just nottrue in the real world.

However, sometimes you cannot run, and you musttake immediate offensive action against the knife, whetheryou get cut or not. Your life is at stake (and possibly the

Paul – an expert in Filipino knife fighting – hasa simple rule: You must “de-fang the snake.”That means, do not fight against the knife, but fightagainst the hand holding the knife. You must armyourself to do this – use a stick, a barstool, a carantennae, anything hard you can lay your hands on.A trash can lid. (Vladimir teaches ripping your ownbelt out and using it as a whip with the buckle on thebusiness end. You can also whip out your walletand use it as a stinging leather strap. Also, takeany magazine, roll it up tight, and it becomes assolid as a steel bar. A magazine, also, can bewhipped flat – hitting any part of your attacker’s body

with the spine of the magazine will cause intensepain and take off chunks of exposed flesh. Try us-ing a magazine against a cardboard box, and seethe instant damage you can do.)

Using your improvised weapon, smack hishand, not the knife in his hand. A hard whack willnumb the hand or knock the knife free. The veryinstant this happens, go in off center and take himout.

Again, this is high-risk fighting , but if youare faced with trying something, or dying, you nowat least have options.

Dirty TricksJim West doesn’t fight fair. If he finds himself sud-

denly in a fight, he will throw coffee and spit liquids into hisopponent’s face, causing an automatic wince that givesJim an extra second to make the first real strike. BobTaylor showed me how to take my glasses and suddenlythrow them at my attacker’s face. The guys who smokeknow that a burning cigarette tossed toward someone’sface makes them back away and get off balance. PaulVunak teaches in his new R.A.T. course to SWAT copsthat biting is absolutely permissible in any fight – it’s im-mediately painful, and the person being bitten will do any-thing to get your teeth off him, opening himself up to yourstrike. If you are surprised and taken to the ground, bite.

Tom Proctor, the cage fighter, has learned how to re-verse a bad situation where he suddenly ends up on thebottom – turn onto your back like a turtle and start “kickinglike a girl ”. Just kick, a flurry of strikes that won’t allowyour opponent to get close without taking a whack in theface or the ribs or the groin.

Never forget that anything you are carrying can be aweapon – that flashlight, that glass of water, even a stifffloppy disc from your computer. Got a pencil or pen? Jamit firmly against the palm of your hand, extending it outalong your index finger, and jab. Go for the “soft” targetsoutlined above. Don’t have a gun in your house, but found

46someone prowling? Use a baseball bat or golf club– swing if you have the room, jab if you’re in a crampedspace.

And most important – once you get the upperhand, finish it. Your opponent isn’t playing by anyrules, and you can’t either.

Remember – everything is “fair” in a realfight. The only thing that counts is that you getaway safe, and protect your loved ones.

I hope this has helped. It’s a written version ofthe “pep talk” I give as advice when men track medown and ask for personal advice. This is good stuff, used by guys who aren’t shy about admitting theyfight. It’s self-defense, against a world that occa-sionally wants to eat you for lunch.

If you are interested in seeing any of the vid-eos we offer – which cover the above material andmuch, much more in serious detail – I want you tohave them at a special discounted price. Why?Because, my goal is to re-acquaint men with thebasics of self-defense and protection of the weakand vulnerable. It’s become a lost art, outside of themilitary and police worlds… except for the bad guys, who have never lost the will to study how to hurt andhumiliate.

Paul’s tape is called “Street Safe ”, and it’s

been used as training for Navy SEALS , big-citySWAT cops, and all kinds of official (and unofficial)federal agents who need to learn how to fight over-night for jobs that would take them far away fromsafety. We’ve sold thousands of Paul’s tapes at$39 – in fact, it’s selling for that price right now inseveral markets. But as an introduction to TRS, Iwant you to have it for just $29. You risk nothing, because you also get a 6-Month Unconditional100% Money Back Guarantee of Satisfaction (thesame one we put on all our products) – take sixentire months to examine, train and use this video…and if you aren’t happy (for any reason, or for noreason at all), simply send it back (in any condition)and you will receive a prompt refund of your money. No questions asked , and no hassles, either.

To order, simply call 1-800-899-8153 (Dept.SR-11) and tell whoever answers you want “PaulVunak’s Free Report Deal ”, and we’ll handle itfrom there. You can use your credit card. Or, youcan fill out and fax the attached order form. Or, ifyou prefer to pay by check or money order (payableto TRS), simply fill out the form and mail it with yourpayment to: TRS, 606 E. The well-rounded man takescare of what he needs to take care of … and you,as a man, need this information to help protect your-self and your loved ones. Order your tape right now,while- you’re thinking about it. It’s the right thing todo.
