Safety Information

• You cannot use the Qualcomm to read or type information while moving.

• There is one exception:a co-driver who is logged in but not driving can use the Qualcomm without restriction.

You can listen to messages while driving.

What Kinds of Information?• Normal information exchange between you and dispatch, such as:

Load acknowledgement

Arrived at shipper

Depart Shipper

GPS Location

• Vehicle position reports & other automatic updates

• Tractor information from optional services, such as:

Performance Monitoring & Vehicle MaintenanceIdle timeRPMSpeedEngine faults

Stopped vs. Moving• While stopped:

– You can use any Qualcomm Transportation Service that is enabled – You tap an icon on the Home screen to access these services

• While moving, you can access the following, with the limited functionality as described:– Messages (via text-to-speech)– Hours of Service (view available hours when activated)

LOGGING IN AND OUTBasic Driver Services


Log In and Log Out• Some services, such as Hours of Service, need to

know who you are. • You need to know how to:

– Log in to the Qualcomm– Change your status

• Active = driving• Inactive = not driving

– Log out of the

1. Tap the Login button.

2. Type your ID and password.

- these will be the same

3. Confirm your status.

4. Tap OK.

Log In

Your driver ID appears while your login information is verified.

After verification, your name appears.


1. Tap your name to select it. It is selected automatically if you are the only driver logged in.

2. Tap Logout.

3. Tap OK.

Change Status

1. Tap your name (if more than one driver is logged in),then tap Change.

2. Type your password (if asked for it) and tap OK.

No Active Driver

The screen below appears when a driver is not logged in. If you see this screen while you are working, it means you are not logged in properly. Note the “No Active Driver” text in red.

The screen below appears when a driver is logged in. This is how your home screen should look the entire time you are working.

MESSAGINGBasic Driver Services


Messaging

• You need to know how to: – Recognize that new information has arrived.– Read the information. – Reply to the message if necessary.


Receiving Information• Information automatically arrives when the ignition is on

and for a short time after the ignition is turned off.

• A wake-up timer checks for new information periodically, even when the ignition is off – typically once an hour.

• Starting or idling your vehicle is not necessary.

• Information is stored until you are ready to read it.

• When you are sleeping, you can turn the volume down completely for both alerts and voice.

Turn the volume back up when you get behind the wheel!


• The unit plays an alert. Click to hear it.• Text-to-speech tells you.

Click to hear it.• The green message

light is lit.• A mail icon appears

in the top bar of the display.

How Do You Know if You Have a Message?


If You’re Moving When You Get Alerted

• You see a summary of your inbox. You can:– Use the 5-way to select a message

• Press the center button on the 5-way twice to have the Qualcomm read your most recent message

• After you stop, you can:– Read information and reply to it– Create new freeform messages– Check your outbox for information you sent


1. Tap the Messaging button.

2. Tap the message you want to read.

4. To read the next or previous message, tap oneof the arrows.

5. To return to your inbox, tap the List button.


Reply to a Message

1. Tap Reply.

2. Open your virtual keyboard and type your message.

3. Close the keyboard and tap Send.

Create a Freeform Message

1. On the Compose tab with the virtual keyboard open, tap Freeform in the list or tap the Freeform button.

2. Type a message.

3. Close the keyboard and tap Send.

Hours of Service (HOS) HOS produces paperless driver logs that comply

fully with Hours of Service regulations.

You need to know how to:– View/change your current status– Clock in/clock out– View summaries of your status– Provide logs to a DOT inspector

or highway patrol officer – Approve/edit your logs– Create/edit a load– View load history and carrier information


Hours of Service Availability While Driving

If you tap the HOS button while driving, you see the number of hours until you’re in violation.

View/Change Current Status1. Tap HOS. The Status tab displays.2. Check for information in red at the

3. Type load information. Scroll down to enter additional trailer numbers if needed.

3. Change information as needed.

4. Tap OK.

Qualcomm Training

1. Tap MCP Training.

2. Scroll through the training topics the same way you do the services on the home screen.

3. Start by reviewing the Start Here topic.


Qualcomm Tutorials

4. To return to the Qualcomm Training menu at any time, tap the Menu button.

5. When your unit gets an upgrade, navigate to the last page of the Qualcomm Training menu and tap What’s New.

Driver Settings

• Some of the settings on the Qualcomm are controlled by your company and cannot be changed.

• You need to know how to set:– Language– Volume controls– Time zone


Change Driver Settings: Settings

1. Tap Settings.

2. View information about the Qualcomm. Time Remaining is the time until your unit powers down.


Change Driver Settings: Language

1. Tap Language.

2. If other languages appear, tap the language you want and tap Apply.

Your company determines what languages are available.


Change Driver Settings: Volume

1. Tap the Volume tab.

2. Use your finger or the stylus to move the slide for each volume level as desired.

3. Tap Test if you want to hear the new level.

When you navigate away from this tab your volume level is saved.


Change Driver Settings: Time Zone

1. Tap the Time Zone tab.

2. Use the scroll bar to locate the time zone you want and tap it to select it.

3. Tap Apply.


Driver Settings: Calibrate Display

1. Tap Displays.

2. Tap Calibrate.

3. Following directions, tap and hold on the screen at the center of each target shown.

For best results, use the provided stylus.
