Amongst the a little bit of HOPE team

there is the sense that this year has gone

better than we expected! The speed at

which we’ve become established,

grown, and gained respect in Uganda

has been quite humbling. The trustees,

members and staff of a little bit of

HOPE (Uganda) have done a fantastic

job. In the UK, we have been so

encouraged by the generosity of so

many people. Thank you to everyone

who has supported a little bit of HOPE,

without you we wouldn’t have been able

to do any of this. The challenge that lies

ahead for us in the UK is to increase our

fundraising efforts to keep pace with

what’s going on in Uganda!

In this edition of a little bit of news we

provide an update of our core business,

a report on our successful Olympic

fundraising campaign and introduce our

Christmas campaign.

School farms have been our priority this

year. The plan is to enable schools to

create self-sustaining farms so they can

feed their pupils at lunchtime. The first

We’ll be speaking a little about

what we’ve done, and what we

plan to do, but mostly we’ll be

considering why we do the things

we do.

This enjoyable, challenging, and

interesting evening will take

place at The Key, St Margaret’s

7:30pm. More information will be

available in January, but until

then, make sure you put the date

VENTURE CAPITAL

We are delighted to be able to tell you

that our work with the Busolwe Health

Workers Association is about to

commence. From the 1st November we

will be providing them with

approximately, £140 a month to run a

sanitation education programme.

Working in two villages, they will

educate people about basic hygiene.

This will include education on the

importance of hand washing, safe food

preparation, measures to reduce the

number of mosquitoes and how to

number of mosquitoes and how to

collect and store clean water.

After an initial visit, each household will

be set a number of tasks to improve

their basic sanitation. If they do these

things, we will then help them build a

latrine. The latrine building component

of this programme is being funded by a

£2500 grant we received from Bethesda

Baptist Church. However, we are still

looking for a few more regular givers to

ensure that we can continue to work

with the Busolwe Health Workers

Association after the first three months.

WATERWe have now provided beds, beddings

and mosquito nets for 36 children.

We’re now having to pause because

they’ve run out of space, and haven’t yet

been able to rent more rooms!

Behind the beds is perhaps the more

significant story. While we’ve been

providing beds, a lot of other changes

have been taking place at the

orphanage. A (high-spec!) latrine has

been built, the playground’s been

levelled, they’ve made play equipment,

and constructed a fence around the

grounds to keep the children in, and

unwanted guests out. However, it’s the

behind the scenes changes that are even

more significant. As well as providing

beds, a little bit of HOPE have provided
