K OF C UNITES WITH CORINTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOLOn Friday, November 7th, our local Knights of Columbus, Coun-cil 3271, collaborated with Corinthʼs Elementary School (K-5) bycombining the distribution of girls and boys winter coats with theweekly distribution of Food Backpacks sponsored by the Re-gional Food Bank of Northeastern NY. Recipients of this programand the coats are students who benefit from additional foodsources and supports in their home. This marked the first year the Knightʼs have conducted the

“Coats for Kids” program, which seemed a logical match with theschoolʼs ongoing “Back Pack” program. Kerry Giumarra, SchoolSocial Worker, and Donna Briner, School Nurse, jointly coordi-nated the schools participation with the K of C. Nearly 50 parka-like coats of varying sizes and colors were distributed.Although this was the local K of Cʼs first year of participation inthe “Coats For Kids” program, the national program was initiatedin 2009. Last year, 51,924 coats were distributed by 1,195 coun-cils. That is approximately 10,000 more coats than the year be-fore, and 200 more councils involved.Donations for next yearʼs coats are welcomed and appreciated.Make checks payable to the “Knights of Columbus” and send to405 Palmer Avenue, Corinth, NY 12822. THEY DESERVE OUR THANKS!The State of NY has given school districts the option to providetax reductions for veterans who have served during certain timeperiods. Our district has predicted that if this were adopted non-qualifying school taxpayers would only pay an additional $10 ayear per $100,000 assessed value on their home. This wouldgive a qualifying veteran a $227 break on a $100,000 assessedvalue home. This is such a small price to pay by us for the in-credible sacrifice that these men and women made for us to befree. To them we say thank you very much. Please contact yourBoard of Education member and tell them you are in favor ofthis reduction. The decision will be made in the next month andwe must act soon.John Coltrain Email: [email protected] Baker Email: [email protected] Jenkins Email: [email protected] Lueck Email: [email protected] Lockhart Email: [email protected] Lozier, III Email: [email protected] Boni-O'Neil Email: [email protected]

JOB CORPS WORKS

(NAPSI)—For many young people, traditional paths to successfulcareers do not always take a straight, well-marked line. The expense of college, family turmoil, economic hardship andother unexpected events can alter a young personʼs plans. To in-crease the opportunities available for all young people, PresidentLyndon B. Johnson signed the bill that created the Job Corps 50years ago.As the nationʼs only federally-funded, residential job-training pro-gram for disadvantaged youths aged 16 to 24, it has helped morethan 2.7 million young people. At more than 120 Job Corps cen-ters across the country, students are trained in more than 100occupations-from culinary arts to health care, and from advancedmanufacturing to information technology. They can earn a highschool diploma or GED. Heavyweight boxing champion and en-trepreneur George Foreman is a Job Corps graduate.Learn MoreFor more information, including how to apply, visit www.job-corps.gov or call 800-733-JOBS (5627).

REAL INSIGHTS FROM REALTORS

(NAPSI)—For many people, buying a home is a goal they aspireto achieve and often the most significant financial decision they'llmake in their life. If you're among them, consider this advice:Given the mass amounts of information, data and tools available,it's critical to work with a professional who can help you makesense of it all. During the home buying or selling process, it's wiseto follow these tips:

• Work with a local expert. Realtors are the most trusted re-sources for up-to-date, comprehensive and accurate real estateinformation when it comes to navigating each step of the complexhome buyers process. More than four out of five recent homebuyers and sellers used a real estate professional, according tothe National Association of Realtors.

• Learn about the area. Looking to move to a new neighborhood?Chances are you're unfamiliar with some characteristics of thearea, such as traffic patterns on busy streets and the best schoolswithin the district. Realtors have a finger on the pulse of eachmarket where they do business. They're responsible for knowingthe nuances to consider before buying a home and can leveragethat expertise to help you.

• Seek accurate information. Many websites offer to help potentialhome owners find the perfect house. Some people have evensuggested the Internet will eventually make buying a home aseasy as buying an airline ticket or a stock certificate. However, consumers often complain that some of the information providedon these sites is either out of date or inaccurate, creating confu-sion and frustration.

A Realtor, on the other hand, can provide valuable counsel, dis-cuss listings, show you homes in person, negotiate on your be-half and help you stay focused on the emotional and financialissues that are most important. That may be one reason 88 per-cent of buyers in 2013 used a real estate agent, up from 69 per-cent in 2001.

Dear Editor,For those of you who do not understand or doubt the validity of Adirondack Save-A-Stray in thecommunity, hereʼs a little story for you.Yesterday the Adirondack Save-A-Stray team spent many hours in the woods, putting our hands intree holes and even climbing trees in order to rescue 6 cats and kittens that had been abandonedon Parker Rd. What kind of horrible, callous and heartless person would think that it would be ac-ceptable to just throw them out like trash. Not only were these the sweetest loving kittens and cats, but once they were captured they did not stop purring and could not stop eating as well. They werealso covered with fleas and filthy from wandering homeless in the woods. They had no idea thatmorning they would be taken from their home, never to return. They were scared and frightenedbeyond belief. Where does this individual come off to think it would be okay for these babies tofend for themselves outside with winter approaching? The other night it poured! What would havehappened if they were left out without any shelter? Thank Go we were able to catch them in timeand that Adirondack Save-A-Stray was there to help. Adirondack Save-A-Stray stands proud of thework we do and we are committed to finding these kitties loving and responsible homes. We are also asking that if anyone has any information about the owner of these kitties to pleasestep forward. Our phone number is 518-654-6220. the pictures of them are posted on our Facebookpage for you to view. We are terribly overloaded right now with kitties, so if you are consideringadopting a cat or kitten, now is the perfect time. We desperately need to get our numbers down sowe can provide a safe haven for cats in need this winter. People should realize that rescue is noteasy and this is just one example of what we have to go through on a daily basis.Thank you to our supporters for helping make tails wag and hearts purr.

FREE CAR CARE GUIDE FOR MOTORISTS(NAPSI)—When it comes to keeping your car running smoothly, one of the most important piecesof equipment may not be under the hood but in the glove compartment.Free Auto GuideThatʼs because thatʼs the place to put the totally redesigned “Car Care Guide” from the nonprofitCar Care Council. The 80-page guide uses easy-to-understand, everyday language rather thantechnical automotive jargon and covers the most common preventive maintenance occasions andprocedures that should be performed to keep cars safe, dependable and efficient. It also includesdescriptions of major vehicle systems and parts, and a list of questions to ask about maintenanceor repair procedures. A car care checklist reminds motorists what vehicle systems need to be main-tained and when service should be performed.Twenty additional pages provide new information on finding an automotive repair shop, alternativefuels, understanding the warranty, vehicle telematics, and careers in the auto care industry, and in-clude an expanded environmental awareness section.Expert Advice“Because properly maintained vehicles perform more safely and dependably for drivers and theirfamilies, the Car Care Council is committed to providing useful information and tools for motorists, like the newly updated, easy-to-follow ʻCar Care Guide,ʼ to help take the mystery out of auto serviceand repair,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council.
