Innovation does not have to pertain only to the supply chain. Last week Ed Pella reported in a 5-15 how Tom Fink and the Charlotte branch sold some specialized Dow Styrofoam Board, a product that we cannot buy directly from a refrigeration company. Ed’s comments are attached. The idea of “intraprenuership” was highlighted at the ENR magazine Future Tech Conference, held in San Francisco on March 16-17. The attached article entitled “Intrapreneurship can Boost Implementation of New Ideas” describes how to look at things differently and into the future. From Supply Chain Management Review, an article entitled, “Supply Chain Innovation.” For your reading pleasure, three articles from Logistics Management are enclosed: “Inventory management requires an end-to-end approach,” “U.S. railroads continue to step up capital expenditures,”and “Take a long-term global view.” Outlook Magazine had a recent article on the “Top 10 Reasons to Insulate.” Pease read, review, and then post in your office and warehouse. Amazon is trying to build a state-of-the-art distribution center in an area south of Boston. The facility will employ about 1000 people. Also, Equity Residential wants to build a 482-unit, 46-story residential tower in Boston. Articles on both are enclosed. Wal-Mart has given up fighting a $7K OSHA fine from 2008. See attached article which describes the incident where a worker was killed when trampled by shoppers on Black Friday. Wal-Mart has spent millions to get the fine dismissed; a case of too many lawyers.
