    — BAPTISMS —

    Parents wishing to have their child

    baptized must contact the Parish

    Office at 359-4391. Baptismal

    Preparation is held on the 1st Tuesday

    of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the

    Parish Hall. Sponsors are required to

    attend.

    — WEDDINGS —

    Couples who are planning to get

    married in the Church should contact

    the Pastor at least 6 months before

    their wedding date. Marriage

    Preparation with Pre-Cana is required.

    — ANOINTING OF THE SICK—

    The sacrament is administered the 2nd

    Wednesday of the month during the

    12:15 p.m. Mass, and by appointment

    with the Pastor.

    WELCOME NEW MEMBERS AND VISITORS TO CORPUS CHRISTI PARISH

    Whether you are a new parishioner or just visiting, we hope you feel welcomed and hope you will join us in

    our many parish activities. Registration forms are available in the vestibule, parish office, and online.

    Please fill one out, drop it in the collection basket, or return it to the parish office. Office hours are Monday

    to Thursday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until Noon. Visitor envelopes are in the church vestibule.

    HOMILIA DE HOY

    Proyecto de Homilía

    • El domingo pasado la

    Epifanía celebró la

    manifestación de Jesús a

    los paganos (los magos).

    La fiesta de hoy celebra

    la misma revelación de

    Dios a Israel, su pueblo

    escogido, reunido en el Jordán donde bautiza Juan,

    que espera: “uno que es más poderoso que yo … él

    los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo”. Preparándonos

    para escuchar el testimonio en el pasaje de Marcos y

    para que confesemos a Jesús como el Señor, Isaías

    nos invita a alejarnos del pecado y a que nos

    dispongamos a ser fieles como en una alianza. Para

    esto Isaías usa unas imágenes que son ricas y

    evocadoras para los cristianos: agua gratuita

    (bautismo), trigo abundante (alimento eucarístico),

    vino (sacrificio eucarístico), leche (la Iglesia como

    Madre lactante y tierra prometida de donde mana

    leche y miel).

    • Las imágenes en la primera carta del apóstol san

    Juan son menos, pero su enfoque es más perspicaz. El

    Espíritu (verdad) da testimonio junto con el agua

    (bautismo) y la sangre (cruz/Eucaristía) del Mesías e

    Hijo de Dios, a quien debemos aceptar para ser

    nacidos de Dios y participar en la victoria de la fe

    sobre un mundo de egoísmo y pecado.

    • Aunque típicamente breve, la narración de Marcos

    del bautismo de Jesús nos ofrece una característica y

    una percepción únicas. Mateo y Lucas dicen que “se

    le abrieron los cielos”, pero Marcos dice que “los

    cielos se rasgaban”, pues en Jesús la barrera que

    separaba el cielo y la tierra queda derribada

    permanentemente, dando rienda suelta al Espíritu a

    fin de transformar irrevocablemente y para siempre la

    faz de la tierra. Esa imagen dramática de rasgar, junto

    con el agua y el llamar a Jesús “mi Hijo amado”,

    pueden también evocar los riesgos y la promesa de

    dar a luz. Aquí también podemos escuchar el eco del

    Génesis: “El Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre la

    superficie de las aguas”. Es así que Marcos nos

    recuerda que, por medio de nuestro bautismo en la

    muerte y resurrección de Jesús, hemos vuelto a nacer

    y nuestra vida debe dar un testimonio convincente de

    esa realidad.

    Pregunta de la semana

    Debido a que la primera carta de Juan presenta tres

    testigos, esto es, el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre,

    ¿cuáles son tres maneras específicas en que puedo

    dar testimonio esta semana de mi bautismo y mi vida

    nueva en Cristo?

    8th Annual CGA Chili Tasting

    The CGA invites everyone to their 8th Annual Chili

    Tasting Event on Saturday, January 24, after the 5:00

    p.m. Mass in the Parish Hall.

    Tickets will be sold at the door.

    There will be Chili, hot dogs, slaw, drinks and desserts

    all you care to eat along with fun door prizes. Tickets

    are $7 per person children ages 5 and under eat

    FREE; or $25 per family.
