KRÜSS launches new solution for optical foam structure analysis
Optical structure testing of liquid foams with a the new development from KRÜSSExpansion of a modular instrument for foam analysisFor stable and metastable foams in food, cosmetic and cleaning products
KRÜSS GmbH presented a new module for theDFA100 Dynamic Foam Analyzer intended for theoptical testing of fluid foam structures at theEuropean Coatings Show 2013 in Nuremberg.The instrument uses image analysis to determinethe number, size and size distribution of the bub-bles of a foam generated under control in theinstrument. The foam structure module featuresa height-adjustable camera with rapid imagesequence for measuring the structural changesover time, thus making the inner destabilisationof the foam visible long before it actually decays.
Torben Schörck, head of development at KRÜSS, sees key applications for this newdevelopment in the food, cosmetics and cleaning agent industries, where the tactileproperties linked with bubble structure play a role in addition to foam stability.
“In particular customers from the brewery branch already showed an interest duringthe preliminary stages of the development. We are expecting further positive responsefrom our upcoming trade fair appearances”, explains Schörck. Presentations at theCESIO in Barcelona and SEPAWA in Fulda are among those planned for 2013.
The company is well-established on the mar-ket for tensiometers and contact angle mea-surement instruments. In 2010 it opened anew product segment with the launch of itsfoam analysis instrument DFA100. Initially thismodular instrument focussed on measuringthe decay of instable foams. A component formeasuring liquid content presented in 2012plus the new optical module are both gearedtowards stable and metastable foams.
