Carer’s Corner by Jenny Oakley Care Co-ordinator • • Thank you to everyone for making it so easy to settle in at HCCC. I've really enjoyed my first term here and look forward to many more. In term 2 we are going to focus on the seasons and we have lots of great Autumn and Winter activities planned. We made the most of the great weather and have been outside most of the term, but with the cooler weather on us we will be spending more time inside. Keep a look out for the photo board so you can all see what we get up to!!! Please have a labeling frenzy as many bags, clothes and containers have been arriving without them! Remember a pair of soft slippers or ugg boots for inside on those cold days! When signing your child in you must leave a contact phone number in the register. No yoghurt in lunches as it’s very hard to name and refrigerate separately, and no muesli bars please as they may contain nuts. If you have any questions about your child, our staff, or our centre then please come and see me. Committee Report

by Iain FraserCommittee President

• • •

Dear Families,

Welcome to winter hibernation everyone. I want to take the opportunity to express my thanks to Kim as her departure date draws near. She has been a

tremendous staff member – one of the original four when we opened, a great supporter of HCCC and a wonderful community minded hills resident. Kim will be missed in

many hills activities she volunteered her time towards. Good luck to you and your family in your move back to the USA. Please come along to her farewell

to say goodbye – details are enclosed here in the newsletter. Thank you to all the families that have supported our various events

in the past months by way of donated prizes, attendance at the events and assistance on stalls. The committee appreciate the support and it helps develop real

community spirit at HCCC. We cannot survive without fundraising

to go towards continual improvements at HCCC so I encourage you to get behind our raffle – thank you in anticipation of your support.

As always, please get in touch if you have queries or comments.

Iain Fraser,

Committee President

Thank You Kim!Join us at the cottage

>>> Friday 2pm, 27th May <<<Afternoon Tea Farewell For Kim

This month sees the last day for long time carer Kim Judy who is returning to the US after nearly 11 years in Melbourne.  Kim has always brought bright bubbly fun and enthusiasm to the sessions she is involved with, and the children and families are sorry to see her go.

Kim has been heavily involved in the child care services provided on the mountain. She has been with us since before we opened, helping to keep the committee focussed on getting to that magical ‘we are open’ moment back in 2008.

Kim was previously on staff at the Occy care run at Mt Dandenong Pre School where she was also a past Committee President, Chestnut Festival Organiser and Carer. Not to mention the many hundreds if not thousands of hours of volunteer time given to all of these organisations - we count ourselves lucky to have had Kim’s involvement in the community, and we wish her well with her relocation to the US.

Thank you Kim for all your efforts over the years!

CHESTNUT FESTIVAL STALL 2011

Raffle prizes on display at the stall helped generate great interest and sell the first batch of tickets.

The Balloonologist twists and turns for kids of all ages.

Help boost enrolments at our centre by telling people about our great little centre!

We are seeking your support to continue this great not-for-profit service for the families of the Dandenongs. Essentially, we are on the look out for new enrolments – all the time!

The centre needs a certain amount of kids each week in order for it to be viable. There is plenty of room for more kids at the centre, and this directly helps keep our budget in a more

comfortable zone.

The committee would like to take this opportunity to reinforce that the HCCC relies on word-of-mouth referrals from all parents, friends and families of the hills. This is where we receive the majority of new enrolments.

We feel it important to convey that with each additional child attending the centre per week, great financial pressure is relieved from our operating costs. Should you know of any

families that are seeking child care, we would be happy to assist and grateful for your kind referral.

Regards,

Iain, Jerome, Jacqui, Megan, Sue, James, Danny.
