1122-1131 on bank at 12:30 P.M., back on bottom ream-ing and drilling at 2.00 P.M.

12, 1144', drilling. 13, 1190', drilling, changed to 4 3/4w rock bit at 1152,

drilled to 1201 at 12:15 P.M., circulated 1/2 hour, on bank for logging at 1.40 P.m., Electric Log on bank at 3 : 15 P. .?*k , preparing to plug and abandon, hod to con-dition hole for Micro Log, nicro Log would not go any-way.

Remarks: Samples were generally poor throughout the drilling of this test because of lost circulation problems; however, it is believed that representative samples were obtained through- out most of the hole. No shows were noted. it is my opinion that this prospect has been adequately tested.

Enclosed ore copies of my Completion Report and Sample Description on the /1 Rothleutner in Section 7, Township 0 South, Range 2 East, Custer County, South Dakota.

I have sent the State Oil and Gas Board in Pierre, South Dakota the following forms:

1. Notice of Intention to Abandon well in triplicate. 2. Affidavit of Plugging in triplicate. 3. Log of Oil and Gas Well in triplicate.

I have furnished Matra here in Casper with the samples from the sub-ice well requesting that they send one sample cut to the State Geologist in Vermillion, South Dakota, and one sample cut to you in Denver. It is my understanding that Ralph desires that the U.S.G.S. be furnished this sample cut that will be sent to you. Gulf already has their sample cut and has no further need of additional sample cuts.

The Electric Log on the subject well was distributed on final prints as follows: 1 copy to Eugene C. Eaton, 1 copy to Teton Exploration Drilling Company, 1 print and 1 sepia to Gulf Oil Company in Bismarck, 2 copies to the State OH and Gas Board in Pierre, South Dakota, 1 copy to the State Geologist in Vermilion, South Dakota, 8 copies to Robert L. Harris in Denver. The Electric Log has been distributed by Lane Wells directly to the above mentioned group.

I believe the wave distribution takes care of the various interest owners on this play. I definitely regret that it was a dry hole but as I stated many a time, I think the play was a very legitimate and worthwhile structural trop. I believe due credit should be given to Ralph Erickson for working out the geology. I certainly regret that the well was a dry hole but I believe we all know what the odds are in drilling for oil.

I have been advised that the IttEnEloreniliin-DrCo. has obtained a Permit to Drill for Oil and Gas on your land in Section 7, T 6 , R 2 E.

Occasionally, owners of land consider converting abandoned oil wells into water wells. Please advise me whether or not you intend to convert the oil well drill hole on your land into a water well if water is encountered and the drill hole is abandoned as an oil well.

If you are considering making a water well out of the aban-doned oil well drill hole, special considerations are necessary to comply with the State's oil and water laws. The abandoned oil hole must be properly plugged and the water well properly constructed. All conversion work will be at your expense. The cost will vary, depending upon the characteristics of the drill hole, but such cost will be in the neighborhood of $5,000 or more. Usually another driller and drill rig will have to be arranged for. This other drill rig and casing and other materials will have to be on hand to take over immediately after the special oil well plugging is completed, because the drill hole cannot be left open for any appreciable length of time without spoiling it. Approval of plans for construction of the water well will be required, and a bond covering proper construction may be required. Also, a water right may be required. All of these arrangements take considerable time to accomplish.

Please advise me immediately if you plan to convert the c .- well drill hole into a water well. We both hope that a pro:1- 1:...

oil well results from the drill hole on your land; however, if not and you are planning on a water well, we must star:: making arrangements now.

Dear Al:

It was certainly a pleasure talking to you the other day and I hope that we now have Mr. Harris all straightened out so he can go ahead and drill his test well, and find out whether or not it is all a dream or whether he can find oil.

Vermillion is a long way from Casper and I would like to see you again sometime. Why don't you make sure to call when you are in town. If this well goes as we have planned it, I am sure that you will be around in South Dakota sometime in the Black Hills so that we can check up on this well to-gether. I intend to go over there about the time they get into the Minnelusa and start acting as a geologist.

I would appreciate your letting me know personally if there are any details or forms that you have not received or if there is anything you would like to have done on this well so that we can keep Mr. Harris' skirts clean. Our present plan is to run a core barrel in the hole if the drilling gets too rough. We do not know at this time whether or not that will be necessary.

Again, many thanks for your assistance and I will be looking forward to seeing you soon.
