According to the electionhandbook issued by Secretaryof State Rebecca Vigil-Giron,write-in votes will be countedand canvassed only if thename is written in the slot pro-:vided and contains the two initials and last name; or thefirst and last name; or the firstname and middle initial andlast name; or the full name ofthe candidate.
Misspellings of the abovecombinations that can bereasonably determined by amajority of the members ofthe precinc;t board to identifythe declared write-in candidate will be counted.
The voting machines inCarrizozo will have only twowrite-in slots even thoughthere are three declared writein candidates. Since there areonly two trustee seats to filleach voter will be allowed tovote for two candidates,whether the votes be cast bypulling the lever or by writingin a declared candidate'sname.
Carrizozo voters shouldbecome familiar with thevoting machine and if theyhave any quesfions ask theprecinct workers.
Carrizozo voters need toalso know that if the name ofone write-in 'candldate is written in both slots that one votewill not be counted. The rollsof paper in the voting machinewill be removed from themachine after the polls close inorder for the precinct board tocount the write-in votes.
Carrizozo voters shouldalso consider making theirdecisions as to how to casttheir votes before entering thevoting booth. A vote may becast for the candidate on theballot by pulling the lever andone vote may be written in ortwo votes may be written in butonce both write-in slots havebeen opened, a voter may notchange his mind and thenclose the slot and vote (or thecandidate on the ballot by pulling the lever. The machine isdesigned to lock out a thirdvote.

Courthouse improvement moneydiverted to airport shortfallMoney tha t had been ear
marked (or courthouse improvements ~ll be spent forthe construction part of theutilities at Sierra BlancaRegional Airport, according toa resolution passed by LincolnCounty Commission during theFeb. 23 meeting.
The money came from aone mil levy that was assessed on property tax for 1987 andoriginally had been designatedto meet the obligationsnecessitated by the requirements for local contributions to meet and obtainfederal grants in the construction of the airport tha t hasbeen built on the Fort Stantonmesa.
