Objectives of the course

Clinical anatomy of head and neck customises the student with medical and surgical methods and techniques

used in clinical and paraclinical examinations, with anatomical and surgical principles in section of different

structures of the cephalic extremity and with principles of facial esthetics in suture of sectioned layers during

cephalic extremity surgery. This direction of study is placed during the fifth year in the aim of assimilation of

the applied anatomy notions in correlation with oro-maxillo-facial surgery and orthodontics.

Content of the lectures

Analytical programm – 18 hours

1. Notions of medical and surgical semantics and instrumentary. Interventions on muscles, vessels, nerves,

bones and joints.

2. Regions of neurocranium: clinicalexamination, craniometry, paraclinicalfindings, explorareclinică,

craniometrie, explorăriparaclinice, methods to approachvessels and nerves, punctions, trepanations.

3. Superficial and deepregions of viscerocranium : clinicalexamination, paraclinicalfindings,

craniometriclandmarks, facial indices, methods to approachvessels and nerves.

4. Pneumaticcavities of neuro- and viscerocranium and theirsurgicalapproach.

5. Regions of the oral cavity : clinicalexamination, paraclinicalfindings, surgicalprocedures.

6. Salivary glands : clinicalexamination, paraclinicalfindings, surgical interventions, methods to

approachanatomicalelements, ectomies, sutures of excretoryducts, interventions on the secretory nerves.

7. Regions of the neck : clinicalexamination, paraclinicalfindings, methods to approachgreatvessels, nerves

and organs of the neck.

8. Congenitalabnormalities of head and neck. Surgicalmethods of treatment.

5. Oral cavity and its content: Regions of the oral cavity: gingivo-dental region, sublingual region,

- Interventions on soft tissue of oral vestibule

- Interventions on the content of oral cavity : tongue, palatine tonsills, soft palate

7. Salivary glands:

8. Somatic regions of the neck: suprahyoid region, infrahyoid region, sterno-cleido-mastoid region,

supraclavicularregion, neck region, prevertebral region. Visceral regions of the neck: laryngeal,

thyiroid, tracheal and cervical esophageal regions (2hours)

9. Clinical and paraclinical examination of neck and its organs:

- Inspection, palpation,

- Paraclinicalfindings: hormonal findings, ultrasonography, scintigraphy,

- Surgicalapproach and interventions on greatvessels, nerves and organs of the neck. (1hour)

10. Notions of teratogenesis. Congenitalabnormalities of head and neck. Surgicalmethods of

Discipline objectives (general)

Basic theoretical and practical preparation of students concerning the general and specific rules to prepare their

licence work (diploma work). It includes the planned preclinical and clinical phases of research, types of scientific

experiments, collaboration in research, publishing, reviewing, scientific fraud, conflicts of interest and scientific

objectivity as well as rules of ethics in research involving human subjects and experimental animals.

1. To be able to identify and diagnose a dental-maxillary disorder and to evaluate the treatment

need:

- identifying the dental-maxillary disorders (dentition development disorders and

malocclusions);

- identifying the trigger factors for the dental-maxillary disorders;

- evaluation of the minimum paraclinical examination set for the orthodontic diagnostic (the

study cast and the interpretation of the panoramic radiography).

2. To be familiarized with the classic and modern orthodontic therapeutically means and methods.

3. To be informed and capable to indicate the necessity of a space maintainer and of a removable

orthodontic appliance for the treatment of the isolated dental anomalies and of the cross bite.
