Locations These courses are held on fixed dates in our Palmerston Park or Merrion Square schools in Dublin, Ireland. Levels & Availability These courses are held on fixed dates throughout the year and are subject to a minimum number of 6 participants per course. Teachers’ Courses can also be arranged for closed groups on request. Tuition Hours 25 hours per week including lessons, seminars and cultural activities.

Specialised Courses

Introduction to CLIL: Theory & Practice(with Language Development option)This course is for teachers who are new to, or have recently begunteaching CLIL. It is a practical introduction to the CLIL approach forall secondary teachers and primary teachers of pupils aged 10+.

The programme combines lectures and practical workshops and itpresents the key concepts in CLIL, using a selection of practicalactivities for various subjects at late primary and secondary level.

A minimum English language level of CEFR B2 is required for CLILprogrammes.

Primary School Teachers Course (SPC5)This two-week course provides language development classes and methodology modules focusing on the teaching of English in the primary classroom and on the needs of young learners.

The main focus is on practical ideas and materials’ development. Modules include:

Songs and Games in the Language Classroom

Drama and Role-Play; Tasks and Activities for Language Learning

English Across the Curriculum

Developing Listening and Speaking Skills

Internet Resources for Language Teachers.

Practical workshops focus on helping participants to devise materials and lessons for their own teaching situations. A minimum language level of CEFR B1 is required for this programme.

Non-Native Secondary School Teachers of English Course (SPC6)This course focuses on the teaching of English in the secondary school classroom. Different learning theories and their applications are presented and practical modules include:

Teaching the Four Skills

Use of Authentic Materials

Tasks and Activities for Language Learning

Drama and Role-Play in the Language Classroom Internet Resources and Language Teaching

Participants are given the opportunity to improve their confidence and competence in English by means of language development classes.

We provide afternoon seminars in Education and in Irish Culture. A minimum language level of Upper Intermediate (CEFRB2) is required for this programme.

Erasmus + FundingQualifying participants on previous Emerald Teacher-Training courses have been funded by the Erasmus Plus programme.If you are a qualifying teacher, please contact your National Agency for more details.All applications need to be made through your school or institution.

Our TrainersOur teacher-trainers have many years’ experience as both language teachers and teacher trainers. As well as teaching on our training courses, they are involved in delivering Emerald’s own CPD Programme and in ELT training courses for Irish state-school teachers who wish to train as language teachers.

Our trainers come from a variety of academic backgrounds, with university bachelor and master degrees in linguistics, pedagogy, e-learning, business, psychology, history and English literature.

Our team has delivered Emerald courses and lessons in Dublin, Spain, Italy, Russia and online to France and Hungary.
