The process of getting approved in grocery, beauty and health and personal care involves sending in receipts showing that you can purchase items that qualify for sale on the Amazon marketplace. You only need to submit three receipts, but they oftentimes ask for more if they are not satisfied with the first submission quantities. This, unfortunately, has much more to do with the particular representative you get assigned to your case than it does with your actual submissions.
You will gather items in each of the three categories and take them to the self-‐checkout and make separate transactions on the same card (the one listed on your Amazon account if possible). Each receipt will have only one type of item, but multiples (5-‐10) of them. HOT Tip: Some items will work for beauty and health and personal care. You can possibly get approved in both of these categories with only two total receipts and one additional document, because you can use the same two receipts on both applications. All of these purchases can be made at any of the following stores (just to mention a few):
Requirements to Sell in These Categories Can you sell in the grocery, beauty and health and personal care categories? You have to meet the following criteria:
• You must be registered as a seller on the Professional Selling plan. • You must meet the following seller performance targets:
o Order defect rate: < 1% o Pre-‐fulfillment cancel rate: < 2.5% o Late shipment rate: < 4%
• You must provide us with acceptable documentation and other information we request about the products you intend to sell.
• You are not required to have your own company website, but if you have one it will be helpful to us to review it during the application process.
• Items must be new.
Gathering your Receipts
These are only examples. As long as the items can be sold and are in the category in which you are seeking approval, you will be fine. For acceptable items, check Amazon in the categories of beauty, health and personal care and grocery for ideas of what to purchase at the retail stores listed.
• Grocery under $1 • Grocery top 100 on Amazon • Beauty under $1 • Beauty top 100 on Amazon
• Health and Personal Care under $3 • Health and Personal Care top 100
on Amazon
There are multiple ways to go about getting approved in this category. I recommend getting three receipts (but as I mentioned above, you may only need two) as well as providing one of the additional documents (if possible):
• Company website • Business address of the manufacturing plant you own • Business address of the store or office you own • Business license document • Sales tax license document • Home occupation permit document
By having three receipts on hand, you can first select the document submission option:
Now, if Amazon wants you to provide more items (which they frequently do), you can submit your third receipt. Also with three receipts, you can choose to use the document submission option:
You can do this in case the additional documents you send aren’t accepted or you simply chose to not submit any of them in lieu of receipts. Grocery Items List Receipt #1 & #2 Example: Receipt #1 (5x Spaghetti & Meatballs) and Receipt #2 (5x Beefaroni) ($0.70-‐$2.00 per item) each receipt has only one type of product on it.
#1 #2 Receipt #3 & #4 (if necessary) Example: Receipt #3 (10x Strawberry Jell-‐O) and Receipt #4 (10x Watermelon Jell-‐O)
#3 #4 Grocery restricted brands: Dunkin Donuts Wedderspoon Organic Honey Williams-‐Sonoma
Beauty/Health and Personal Care Receipt #1 & #2 Example: Five oral care items per receipt ($0.70-‐$2.00 per item); each receipt has only one type of product. Note: Many popular items are in the Health and Personal Care and Beauty. You can use the same receipts for approval if you are willing to try. There is no rule against this.

Capturing and Submitting Your Receipt Images After you have gathered all of your receipts, you will need to take an image of each. A smartphone works best for this. It may be easiest to take the images and email them to yourself, then download these to your desktop for you to easily access when filling out your application.
Tips: • Make sure that the images are flat on the surface, legible and neat. • You can add information onto the receipts in pen if you’d like (like ASIN) but it is not
necessary. If you do this, make sure that it looks neat and professional. • You can remove prices, but you don’t have to. Many people think you have to, but
that isn’t the case. • These items are only examples; you can buy items that you will actually resell or
items that you will eat yourself anyway. Review the images below (do not use them!). They are also not in the same format as mentioned above. This way would work, but is more extensive and requires more work. Notice how they are legible, and cropped tightly. http://i.imgur.com/5ABqGvb.png http://i.imgur.com/5WL8VWa.png
Submitting Your Images You will save the images to your computer (you may want to do this by emailing them from your smartphone to your own email address and then downloading them to your desktop). They should be in .pdf or .jpg format preferably.
Receipt Requirements
• Must be dated on or after three months from date of submission • Must have document issuer’s name, address, phone number, email or website (this
is not currently a firm rule and receipts do not generally have these items on them) • POs must have your name or issuing business name • POs must have contact information for your business (e.g. address, phone number,
email or website) • Obscure pricing (optional)
First Steps for Beauty, Grocery and Health and Personal Care Approval
1. Log in to your seller central account. 2. Open the link below and scroll down to the category in which you are seeking
approval, in this case it is “Beauty”, ”Grocery” or “Health and Personal Care”:
3. https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/200333160/ref=ag_200333160_cont_200164430
4. Scroll down that page and click on 5. Go through the questions and answer them appropriately. The following responses
are aligned with what they want.
6. On the final page, provide your email, phone number, anticipated revenue and business statement.
Anticipated revenue = Aim for something reasonable, at least a few thousand dollars. You don’t want to put a number that is too large or too small. Too large makes them want to really over-‐analyze the application and too small makes you seem unprofessional. Be as honest as you can but also somewhere between the extremes.
o Give a good, 2-‐3 sentence description of your business like the example below (please don’t copy the text below verbatim).
“Satisfying the Amazon customer is our top priority and we aim to bring them hard-‐to-‐find products at impossible-‐to-‐match prices while maintaining the highest levels of customer service and ethical business practices.”
o Submit …. You will now receive a confirmation email.
Note: Amazon will most likely counter with some changes that they would like to see made. Do not panic, this is all part of the process. They are testing your ability to create the best listings possible, as well as your flexibility and commitment to the process. Serious sellers don’t give up at this part; so that’s what they are looking for here. What if I don’t want to provide receipts? You can provide some of the following items.
