CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR The New Standard in High Resolution Particle Size Measurement © Analytik Ltd +44(0)1954 232 776 | [email protected] | analytik.co.uk Solvent Resistant Disc The UHR model comes with a standard solvent resistant disc made from CR-39 polymer. The disc resists aack by virtually all organic solvents and water based liquids. CR-39 polymer is resistant to scratching, will not yellow with age, and has clarity approaching that of opcal grade glass. The improved opcal quality of the disc eliminates scaering and distoron of the detector beam by the disc, and so maintains improved resoluon from the narrower beam. Dynamic Balancing Module and Quiet Operaon Added Dynamic Balancing Module ensures the instrument longevity by recording the unbalance and warning if it’s outside of the set specificaons. The module idenfies which balancing hole on the disc needs weight to be added and how many milligrams of weight to add. The UHR model also uses an improved air flow paern that reduces cooling fan noise, and has added sound insulaon plus a double wall construcon to reduce noise from the centrifuge motor and the rotang disc. Analysis Time Flexibility The improved resolving power of the UHR model means that many analyses of very small diameter samples can be measured in a much shorter me, by trading a slight reducon in resoluon for a shorter analysis. For example, the sedimentaon depth can oſten be reduced by a factor of two, which reduces run me by a factor of two. The loss in resoluon (e.g. a minimum reportable peak width of 3% of the mode diameter instead of 1.5%) is quite small, and remains far beer than any other parcle sizing technique. The CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR is an extremely powerful analycal tool for ultra-high resoluon, high accuracy measurement of particle size distribution. Offering the unique ability to resolve very close multi-modal particle distributions and to distinguish extremely small shifts in particle size, the practical range of the analyser is from 3nm to 60 microns (depending on sample density). Ultra High Resoluon The detector opcs produces a narrow beam where it passes through the sample. The beam takes the form of a short arc (rather than a straight line) with a radius that matches the radius of rotaon where the beam passes through the disc. With radius matching, the effecve width of the beam is further reduced, and for most measurements, effecve resoluon can be significantly improved. The peak width for a perfectly narrow sample can be as low as 1% of the parcle size diameter measured. By ulising the improved resoluon of the CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR, for typical parcles, the instrument output is very close to a perfect representaon of the true distribuon - approximately 2-10 mes beer resoluon than the best available with other parcle sizing methods. Solvent Resistant Disc

The UHR model comes with a standard solvent resistant discmade from CR-39 polymer. The disc resists attack by virtuallyall organic solvents and water based liquids. CR-39 polymer isresistant to scratching, will not yello w with age, and has clarityapproaching that of optical grade glass. The improved opticalquality of the disc eliminates scattering and distortion of thedetector beam by the disc, and so maintains improved resolution from the narrower beam.

Dynamic Balancing Module and Quiet Operation

Added Dynamic Balancing Module ensures the instrumentlongevity by recording the unbalance and warning if it’s outsideof the set specifications. The module identifies which balancinghole on the disc needs weight to be added and how manymilligrams of weight to add. The UHR model also uses animproved air flow pattern that reduces cooling fan noise, andhas added sound insulation plus a double wall construction toreduce noise from the centrifuge motor and the rotating disc.

Analysis Time Flexibility

The improved resolving power of the UHR model means thatmany analyses of very small diameter samples can bemeasured in a much shorter time, by trading a slight reductionin resolution for a shorter analysis. For example, thesedimentation depth can often be reduced by a factor of two, which reduces run time by a factor of two. The loss inresolution (e.g. a minimum reportable peak width of 3% of themode diameter instead of 1.5%) is quite small, and remains farbetter than any other particle sizing technique.

The CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR is an extremely powerful analytical tool for ultra-high resolution, high accuracy measurement of particle size distribution. Offering the unique ability to resolve very close multi-modal particle distributions and to distinguish extremely small shifts in particle size, the practical range of the analyser is from 3nm to 60 microns (depending on sample density).

Ultra High Resolution

The detector optics produces a narrow beam where it passesthrough the sample. The beam takes the form of a short arc(rather than a straight line) with a radius that matches theradius of rotation where the beam passes through the disc. With radius matching, the effective width of the beam isfurther reduced, and for most measurements, effectiveresolution can be significantly improved. The peak width for aperfectly narrow sample can be as low as 1% of the particlesize diameter measured. By utilising the improved resolutionof the CPS Disc Centrifuge UHR, for typical particles, theinstrument output is very close to a perfect representation ofthe true distribution - approximately 2-10 times betterresolution than the best available with other particle sizingmethods.

The instrument utilises the particle sizing technique of DifferentialCentrifugal Sedimentation (DCS). Rather than using a predictivealgorithm, the Disc Centrifuge physically separates the nanoparticles and then measures them as they pass a light sourcedetector - providing full characterisation in real time.
