Application The CPU 414-4H is compatible with the SIMATIC S7-400H and S7-400F/FH. It allows a fault-tolerant S7-400H system to be configured. It can also be used for the failsafe S7-400F/FH automation system in conjunction with an F-runtime license. The integrated PROFIBUS DP interface supports direct connection to the PROFIBUS DP fieldbus as master. Design The CPU 414-4H includes:
High-performance processor: The CPU achieves instruction execution times as low as 60 ns per binary instruction 1.4 MB RAM (700 KB for program, 700 KB for data); load memory for user programs and parameter assignment data of the S7-400H F/FH automation system; high-speed RAM for user program components applicable to execution Memory card: for expansion of the integrated load memory. In addition to the program, the information contained in the load memory includes parameter assignment data for the S7-400H F/FH

and therefore requires approximately twice as much space. The result is: Integrated load memory is not adequate for large programs so that a memory card is often required. RAM and FEPROM cards (FEPROM for retentive storage) are available.
Flexible expansion capability: Max. 65K digital, 4K analog I/Os Multipoint interface MPI: The integrated MPI makes it possible to establish a simple network with up to 32 nodes, at a data transmission rate of up to 187.5 kbps. The CPU can establish up to 64 connections to nodes on the communication bus (C-bus) and the MPI. Note: When PROFIBUS DP and MPI interfaces are operated simultaneously, only the following bus connector can be connected to the MPI:

Mode selector: Designed as a key-operated switch. Access authorizations can be restricted by means of the removable mode selector. Diagnostics buffer: The last 120 fault and interrupt events are retained in a FIFO buffer for diagnostics purposes Real-time clock: CPU diagnostics messages are date-stamped and time-stamped. PROFIBUS DP interface: The CPU 414-4H with PROFIBUS DP master interface supports a distributed automation configuration with high speed and simple handling. From the user's point of view, the distributed I/O is treated as central I/O (same configuring, addressing and programming). Note: When PROFIBUS DP and MPI interfaces are operated simultaneously, only the following bus connector can be connected to the MPI:

Function
Block protection: A password concept also protects the user program from unauthorized access as well as the keyswitch. Integrated HMI services: The user only has to specify the source and destination of the data with HMI devices. The data are then transported cyclically and automatically by the system. System diagnostics: Definition of the handling and scope of diagnostics messages Timed interrupts: Setting of periods Configuration of H stations
Safety-related functions The F-runtime license can be used to compile the failsafe F user program and run it on the CPU. A license is required for each S7-400F/FH system. 2 TÜV stickers are included.
Reporting functions Status and fault indicators: LEDs indicate internal and external errors and operating modes such as RUN, STOP, Startup, "Master” mode, redundancy error, test function, etc. Test functions: The PG can be used to display signal states in program execution, modify process tags irrespective of the user program, read out the contents of stack memories, run separate program steps and inhibit program components. Information functions: The PG can be used to provide the user with information about the memory capacity and operating mode of the CPU, and the current utilization of the working and load memories.
