* These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. They have not been independently verified, should not be relied on without verification and do not necessarily reflect the views of the agent.

Seller InsightThis elegant home, parts of which are thought to date back to the 18th Century, enjoys an enviable setting in the heart of the thriving town of New Romney. The current owners purchased the property a little over ten years ago, and over that time have painstakingly

renovated the entire house to create the very spacious and beautifully presented family home it is today.

One of the things that the owners say initially attracted them to the property was its wealth of period features, and these are elements that during the renovations they have been careful to conserve. These features, which include large fireplaces, exposed beams and beautiful natural wood flooring in various rooms, combine to give the house great character, charm and, despite its vast proportions, a wonderfully cosy and comfortable feel throughout.

The house is enveloped by around an acre of beautifully landscaped grounds. The space is mainly laid to lawn with both mature and young trees dotted here and there, and it is surrounded by a high boundary that gives a wonderful sense of seclusion. A beautiful patio terrace wraps around the house, and from here a path leads to a large ornamental pond, which provides a lovely focal point. The owners say that they have thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the garden, and that their grandchildren have not only relished having so much space to run around in, but during the summer months they have also spent many happy hours splashing around in the swimming pool.

Favourite room: A real feature of this lovely home is the elegant thatched orangery. It is an attractive space where one can enjoy the beauty of the garden whatever the weather, and during the summer months the French doors can be flung open to create a seamless connection between inside and out.

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: The owners say that living in New Romney has enabled them to experience the very best of both worlds. They have the wonderful shops and amenities of the town within walking distance, and they are also able to enjoy the stunning coastline and many miles of glorious countryside, both of which lie practically on the doorstep.

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): Within the grounds, the property also includes a separate annex, which in the past has been used as an artist’s studio. The owners comment it has huge potential to be converted into anything from a home office to accommodation for guests or even elderly relatives.

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: The owners say that it is the atmosphere and character of the house that they will particularly miss when the time comes to leave this beautiful home, and that they have loved owning such a stunning property. However the time has come to downsize, but they hope another family will now be able to enjoy all it has to offer.

SITUATIONNew Romney is a small town in Kent, England, on the edge of Romney Marsh, an area of flat, rich agricultural land reclaimed from the sea after the harbour began to silt up. New Romney, one of the original Cinque Ports, was once a sea port, with the harbour adjacent to the church, but is now more than a mile from the sea. A mooring ring can still be seen in front of the church. It is the headquarters of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. New Romney is now a thriving seaside town attracting many tourists. Craythornes is within walking distance of the well served high street and the Sea.
