CYCLING FOR ALS Laura Cook, Monday soprano, is cycling to raise awareness and funds for ALS, cycling 700 kilometres. There was a brief article in the Peninsula News Review on this endeavor:

http://www.vicnews.com/neighbourhoods/sidney/215150761.html

This may be of interest to other GHC members, since many were contributing to the cause. I'm not sure when the next newsletter will come out, so this may be old news by then. Regards, Submitted by Liz Ball GHC Monday Soprano ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** THIS IS TRULY BASIC BASS This cool video might be of interest to the GHC etc. newsletter group! Amazing!

Man with the world's lowest singing voice Tim Storms holds the World Record for the lowest note ever sung by a human. He can hit a G-7, or .189 Hz. It's so low you can't even hear it, but it's measurable. I like how Tim's website says "Biography of a Bass Freak." Tim also has the world's widest vocal range for a male. He was profiled this week by NPR's Morning Edition and also CNN. You can also hear Tim perform on the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir's new album, Tranquility: Voices of Deep Calm. Kelly: Hey GHC community! I was looking on YouTube and found a video of us singing "Rain" in February! It sounds amazing! (PS thank you to Holly Arntzen and Kevin Wright for writing such a lovely song and to Denis Donnelly for arranging it, those "Sus" chords during the chorus and water sound effects at the beginning really set the mood well) check it out on YouTube! :)

KINOBE IN CONCERT (July 17 or 27*)

With special guests Jordan Hanson & Sam Lopez plus the Victoria Percussion Orchestra

* Please note: There is a bit of confusion on the date. The ticket I bought says July 17th

but the poster, the Drum

Victoria, Harmony Foundation and UVic School of Music web sites all say July 27. I’m assuming the latter date is correct. If you buy a ticket and it still says July 17

th (they may have printed a new batch) you might consider

checking with one of the organizations involved to be sure that you are there the same night he is.

Kinobe is the new voice of Ugandan music, the inspired synthesis of African roots and world music, of traditional and modern instrumentation. He will share the traditional sounds of Uganda and the African continent on a wide variety of acoustic instruments. ($12, $10 for students & seniors. Available on-line at www.drumvictoria.com and at Lyle's Place )

Poster Submitted independently by: Christine Bloomfield former GHC Tuesday/Thursday Alto & Anne Cookson GHC Tuesday/Thursday Soprano

Editor’s Note Kinobe was the GHC’s guest artist for our June 10 & 11, 2011 “One World” concerts. He is a very talented musician and a bone deep nice person. He not only plays his “wide variety of acoustic instruments” he also builds them himself. I’ve got my ticket and I will be there. I hope to see some of your familiar faces there as well!

JUST FOR FUN PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE Editor’s note: I hope that at worst the only hurt experienced by the occupants of this car was bruises to their pride but I must admit finding their predicament amusing in a “slipped on a banana peel” kind of way.
