Within our programme, we deliver two levels of training that are designed to be implemented alongside each other. It is these two packages that help to create your companies ‘Safety Bubble’.

By ‘Safety Bubble’ we mean that you have a self supervising workforce who see the benefits of working safely as they can understand the benefits to themselves. If they all are self supervising, and creating their own ‘Safety Bubble’, this means that there are many Safety Bubbles joining together that forms one big protective bubble that protects people, plant and the company as a whole.

Two levels of training within the ‘Safety Bubble’ programme

1. Front Line Supervisor (Think middle management who go ‘on site’ as well as Foreman and similar grade supervisors)

2. Operatives (Anyone who is below Front Line Supervisor grade)

By offering a structured cultural improvement package employee’s behaviour improves as they understand what it is they are actually aiming for.

Both programmes are designed to up skill the employees in a way that they can actually implement the skills that are being taught. The way we deliver this programme reflects this.

The training is not designed as a ‘learn and dump’ package. There is ample time between each course for the employees to practise the skills that have been coached and have them as second nature, before the next course starts.

This way, by the time we complete the package and go into the measuring phase, your employees will have had all the support that they need in order to achieve your company’s objectives.

When you set out your objectives, targets, intentions ask yourself this one question...

‘Do we do support the employee in every realistic way possible so that they stand the best chance of achieving our objectives?’

And that’s where most organisations fail. They offer grand targets but don’t always give the employees the correct support needed to achieve those targets.

This is where this programme succeeds. By working with your company, we give the employees all the skills and support they need to achieve your objectives.

Included in this information pack are overviews of all the programmes that we run within the package.

DiSC is a personal assessment tool used to improve work productivity, teamwork, and communication.

What does DiSC measure?DiSC measures your personality and behavioural style. It does not measure intelligence, aptitude, mental health or values. DiSC profiles describe human behaviour in various situations, for example how you respond to challenges, how you influence others, your preferred pace, and how you respond to rules and procedures.

DiSC profiles help you and your team:

• Increase your self knowledge: how you respond to conflict, what motivates you, what causes you stress, and how you solve problems

• Learn how to adapt your own style to get along better with others

• Foster constructive and creative group interactions

• Facilitate better teamwork and minimise team conflict

• Develop stronger skills by identifying and responding to requests placed on you

• Manage more effectively by understanding the dispositions and priorities of employees and team members

We look at from birth until the present day; why they have certain views, what influences their thinking and how come their’s and someone else’s perception of the same task may be totally different.

We also examine why we think along the same basic lines as our ancestors did hundreds of years ago.

We also carry out a profiling exercise that lends itself to identifying leadership skills within that person.

This profiling also allows us to build a picture of the individual so that the rest of the training package can be tailored around their learning preferences.

In order to achieve this, we utilise the DiSC profiling system.

This is a highly practical, fun and engaging workshop that receives excellent feedback every time we deliver it.

In order to develop, employees first need to understand and accept how they operate and function as individuals.

Course Content:

We look at how others see them as leaders and from this point they will learn how to develop their own style of leadership, so they will make a stronger and more positive impact in the workplace.

Modules covered include:

• What type of leader does the workforce expect to see when they turn up for work?

• How can correct leadership improve safety performance?

• Recognising good leadership

• Why do we need leaders?

• What makes leaders different?

• How do I lead?

“An eye opening course that enabled me to see how I can manage, and then how I can lead.”

Site Engineer - Utility Company

Equipping managers, supervisors and team leaders with the tools and skills they need to lead their teams to success is critical to achieving long term success.

The benefit of strong leadership across all managers and supervisors within a business enables that business to think for itself. It is just as important to have competent front-line leaders as it is to have competent support managers. Staff will no longer need to be told how they must do things – they will just need to be told what the goals are and our training will do the rest. Teams will be able to do ‘more with less’ and it will reduce over-reliance on senior managers.

Enhancing leadership skills results in a reduction in accidents in the workplace, it’s as simple as that.

Without true leaders, your business is like an arrow without a flight.

Your employees will achieve far more if they are inspired by a leader, rather than just doing it ‘because it’s my job’.

Inspire and Engage

Page 6: Create your Safety Bubble

This course looks at:

• The way the brain works in relation to emotions

• Techniques to reduce stress and achieve more by handling pressure better

• The ability to recognise the early warning signs of stress

• Ways to relax quickly in real-life situations

• Methods to keep confidence and energy levels high

• Ways to take more control of their life and reactions in pressured situations

“An excellent thought provoking course that discusses a subject that we all know exists, but we choose not to do much about it. Well done!”Safety Director - Power Company

This is a practical course that looks at the basic psychology behind emotions as well as stress management and is designed to show you how to reduce stress by managing pressure correctly. You will learn how to stay more in control of yourself as pressure increases so you can still perform well and achieve results. You will also learn how to relax quickly in any situation, and keep your confidence and energy levels high. This course has been developed for Front Line Supervisors who, as part of their job, need to ‘juggle many balls’ while ‘wearing many hats’. The course will help to enable them to behave in ways that will optimise performance and reduce accidents in the workplace.

Learning how to control your reactions to outside pressures is essential in order to enhance safety and productivity on site.

‘How many units? Over how many days? With half of my workforce? And I have forgotten to put the bin out! I can’t take it!!!’

Emotional Control

Page 7: Create your Safety Bubble

This course looks at:

• How to understand your workforce

• How to create a vision that your employees believe in

• Setting realistic targets that motivate your workforce

• Enabling employees to become ‘self supervising’

• Creating growing safety goals for continual growth

• Create a structure so that when you communicate safety, you actually ‘sell’ it to employees so that they ‘buy’ into it

“Do it because I say so and that’s that!” has never and will never be the best way for safety messages to be communicated.

“Within 30 minutes of the course starting, I could see where we had always gone wrong with our approach to communicating safety, but more importantly, I understood how I could improve it almostinstantly.”

Foreman - Construction Company

By working with the Institute Of Sales and Marketing’s Sales Trainer of Year we have taken a ground breaking approach to enhancing human behaviours through engaging and rewarding communication techniques.

The Selling Safe-T course ensures that the people who are delivering the safety message do so from an angle that the employees will want to do what is being asked themselves, rather than being told to do it.

It’s about getting them wanting to work safely, rather than having to react to accidents because they didn’t work correctly in the first place.

This course has been developed for Front Line Supervisors who, as part of their job, need to engage with employees and motivate them to behave in ways that will reduce the likelihood of accidents occurring on site.

This course will ensure that your employees will work safely because they see the benefits to THEM, not just because you want them to as it’s beneficial for you.

Selling Safe-T

Course ContentThe course develops skills that enable staff to:

• Create the correct mind set prior to briefing

• Plan and prepare for briefings

• Develop voice and language skills

• Create the correct mind set for the audience

• Select briefing locations.

• Delivery skills

• Understand the importance of self and audience positioning

• Build a strong rapport with their audience

• Undertake effective confirmatory questioning

All courses can include business specific information from your particularorganisation (forms, policies etc can all be included).

Delivering Effective BriefingsWe know how important it is that staff are briefed correctly. A good briefing is an essential tool that helps to prevent accidents and injuries occurring as well as ensuring that everyone understands what is expected from them. A site briefing should be seen as a vital opportunity to give direction and leadership to get the job done safely and effectively.

On-site CoachingWe also offer on-site coaching as a follow on from this course. This is an extremely cost effective way of reinforcing learning. Delegates gain the confidence to put new ideas into practice straight away and the immediate feedback encourages delegates to continue improving.

Employees understanding what is being communicated means they can act on it in the way that you want them to.

This course provides critical communication skills which enable all supervisors to understand the audience and effectively deliver information, and then to ensure that this information has been received correctly.

Communication, it’s a two-way process.

Ensuring Understanding

Page 9: Create your Safety Bubble

In this course you will learn:

• How the brain impacts on our emotional state

• How to motivate and coach your people for improved performance

• How to create a winning spirit

• To grow the ‘can do’ attitude in a safe way

• To recognise how you like to be communicated with

• To recognise how you don’t like to be communicated with

• To recognise how to create the ‘ideal’ working environment with what you have.

• How people like to be motivated and the requirements you need to motivate yourself

• How you can influence people in the correct way

Motivation can be created or destroyed by the leader. This educates delegates in how certain techniques can be used at differing times, to ensure that their workforce remains motivated enough to achieve safety on site.

A 100% motivational state cannot be achieved for the full working shift. However, what can be achieved is a state where the employees want to perform, and not have to perform, to a standard that optimises productivity and reduces the chances of an accident occurring in the workplace.

Shouting and fear only motivate for so long! This explores how to motivate teams and individuals in all type of working conditions. It is a package designed to imbed how teams can improve productivity as long as some basic needs are met.

A very practical and interactive workshop that enables your employees to truly motive their workforce in an empathic way which results in positive long term change.

Course ContentOur highly practical course is designed to specifically improve a learner’s confidence, character, attitude and behaviour.

This course will look at:

• What people’s perception of fairness is

• How to design a fair work environment.

• How to communicate fairness for all

• Recognising the root causes of all forms of conflict.

• Identifying preferred styles of dealing with conflict.

• Selecting the most appropriate tactic for dealing with conflict.

• Recognising the impact of behaviours on conflict situations.

This course helps to create an understanding that, whilst not getting everything they want, employees can view situations with a ‘well, at least it’s fair’ attitude, which helps to optimise productivity.

Everyone is more accepting if things are viewed as fair. Also, conflict in the workplace can be costly and disruptive. This course will provide staff with the skills to avoid conflict and the tools to respond to it efficiently and effectively should it ever occur.

Creating an environment where people can see they are being treated fairly is essential for success.

‘Let’s show them what we can do now we have the chance!’

Future Leaders

Page 12: Create your Safety Bubble

This course covers:

• Why people put themselves in danger

• How we perceive the world around us

• What is a hazard

• Why we react in certain ways

• Techniques used to adhere to safety instructions

• How to react to unplanned danger

• How we usually react to unplanned danger

• How to physically stay safe from hazards

• How to keep others safe from hazards

• How the ‘team’ will always be safer than the ‘individual’

• Practical and engaging exercises that imbed the teaching points in a fun way

The objective of this workshop is to imbed thinking and reaction processes as part of the Selling Safe-T programme and Safety Bubble ethos. It is both classroom and outdoor based and includes exercises where instructions are delivered, and we try to breach limitations at various stages of each task. Awareness skills and adherence to procedures, and ensuring the adherence of others to these procedures, are the core elements to this training.

‘It’s important that employees perceive the actual hazard correctly, and then act accordingly’

You want your employees to be able to go on site, operate to a high productivity level but also to be aware of their surroundings and act in a safe way. They need training to do this.

‘As you can see, Tom’s hazard spotting is poor. Let’s see how he reacts..........’

Hazard Perception and Reactions

Page 13: Create your Safety Bubble

This course covers:

• The W.A.I.T (Why Am I Talking) principle

• Thinking an idea through

• Constructing a conversation mentally

• Barriers to communication

• Learning styles

• Delivering a message

• Things to avoid saying

• How to choose the correct moment

• Dealing with interruptions

• How to check understanding

Simply being listened to has a major impact on self motivation and retention. Knowing how to think through an idea, thinking of how to present it, selecting a correct time to do it, and then checking understanding are all skills that are needed by an efficient workforce. By knowing how to approach a conversation (meaning it’s got more chance of being listened to and actioned) will ensure that they feel valued as part of the team, rather than frustrated as they feel that no one is listening to them.

How often do you hear ‘no one listens to me’ from your employees? If you are like most of our new clients, probably quite often!

How much of the time do you respond with ‘Well what were you trying to say, how did you construct your conversation and how did you chose the time to speak?’

If you are like most of our new clients, probably not a lot.

Behaviour Awareness Workshops

Page 15: Create your Safety Bubble

By offering one-to-one training and skills enhancement after thepackage has been delivered, we often achieve greater results as we canengage even more with the individual. One-to-one training:

• Maintains confidentiality

• Excellent listening and responding skills

• Non-judgemental

• Objective outlook

• Advises rather than tells

• Has the employees best interests at heart as the session is purely for them

This is where we offer on site one-to-one coaching and mentoring skills to all Front Line Supervisors. You will agree, this is essential toensure that all skills are being implemented in the way that has been agreed (measuring stage).

The Front Line Supervisors will be aware of these support and improvement sessions, and these are critical to the success of the whole project. By holding them on site, we can see in real time how they are implementing the skills and techniques in a ‘live’ environment and we can improve them instantly if needed.

Each coaching and mentoring session is designed to last half a day. We will observe the employee in an on site capacity to see how they apply the skills that have been taught in a day-to-day working role and offer feedback where needed.
