RTD is spearheading an innovative concept
to identify, assess and train workers to move into careers on
the FasTracks program. The Workforce Initiative Now (WIN) program is a collaborative partnership that helps job seekers, companies and communities through career opportunities in the transportation and construction industries. A partnership of training and service providers – nonprofit organizations, community and technical colleges, industry training providers, small businesses, and the workforce development system
– collectively create a single effective outreach program that reduces training costs by focusing on shared needs. By leveraging existing resources and providing placement options for funded programs, these partners ensure training for entry-level and career advancement skills development in the transit and construction industries. WIN is currently working on transitioning participants into meaningful careers on RTD’s Eagle P3 project as well as construction jobs on associated transit-oriented development and housing projects.
Workforce Initiative Now (WIN)
PeopleWIN’s first priority is putting people to work. WIN provides potential workers with skills training, placement assistance and resources to help them secure industry positions with competitive wages and career possibilities.
ProjectsWIN works with businesses to identify needed skills, develop demand-driven custom training and job placement services, and leverage financial incentives, such as Work Opportunity Tax Credits and other on-the-job training funding sources.
PathwaysThrough a wide network of service providers, WIN works with local communities, governments and organizations to increase access to critical resources that promote job cre-ation, skills development, and social and economic growth.

FasTracks: Attracting Business to the RegionAccessibility. Options. Visibility. Incentives.
These words are important to businesses when deciding whether to set up shop in our region or somewhere else. FasTracks is still
being implemented, but already, RTD’s expanding transit system is attracting large and small employers to areas where future trains
will travel, providing customers, clients and employees with convenient transportation and attracting commerce to the area.
FasTracks is hard at work. Bridges are
going up. Stations are being built. Facilities
are expanding. Train tracks are being laid.
All across the metro area, you can see visible
signs of FasTracks putting tax dollars and
people to work. Once complete, the Regional
Transportation District’s FasTracks program
will provide 122 miles of new train service,
18 miles of bus rapid transit service, more
than 21,000 new parking spaces, redevelop
Denver Union Station and redirect bus
service to better connect the region.

“Our new St. Anthony Medical Campus in Lakewood will be served
by the new RTD West Rail Line opening in 2013. Not only will this
level of public transportation have a positive impact on the
environment and potentially help to decrease traffic congestion,
it will provide more options for our patients and their families to
access our campus and medical services. We also believe that
it will be a huge benefit to the employees who work on our
campus, and will serve as an important recruitment tool as
we hire more employees and health care professionals
in the future.”

DIReCT –FasTracks spending is used on capital investments such as purchasing trains, building stations, and constructing railways. The direct effect of this spending keeps construction workers employed here in Colorado.
INDIReCT–People who enable the direct spending on FasTracks are also employed because they supply goods and services such as train engines, steel for rails, and concrete for stations. These indirect effects are a result of the direct spending on capital projects like FasTracks.
INDuCeD –A wider group of people are also employed as construction workers, engineers and other professionals working on FasTracks who spend their paychecks on consumer goods at local retailers, restaurants, movie theaters and coffee shops. These are known as induced effects.

Injecting Money and Jobs into the Economy“The light rail is really a blessing.
It is one of the most visionary
elements of progress to occur
in the Denver metro area. We
chose to build our Vallagio
development at I-25 and Dry
Creek because of its proximity
to the light rail. So many more
opportunities for economic
development will be available for
the region through FasTracks.
The benefits are endless.”
