Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)

Showcasing the region of the Highlands and Islands during the Year of Homecoming Scotland

Challenge

The Wee Agency supported the Events team at HIE with PR and social media marketing

in the run up to and during the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup. Our creative

team also designed and produced a 52 page book showcasing the region to potential

investors at both of these high-profile sporting events.

Strategy

Our marketing team used twitter to engage with HIE’s followers by tweeting interesting

facts about the Year of Homecoming as well as sourcing all content and imagery for the

Events newsletters. Our experienced PR team drafted press releases for HIE’s events as

well as case studies on local businesses which supplied products and services to the

Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup to use as success stories for the region.

The Wee Agency’s design team liaised with staff at HIE as well as copywriters and

specialist trade printers to design an impressive 52 page book full of stunning imagery

and content about the Highlands and Islands. From food and drink in Shetland to

marine science in Argyll the book showcases the very best of the region in an

easy-to-read format.

Strategy

1000 copies of the book were successfully designed and printed within the tight

deadline of one month. Coverage was generated for HIE in The Times, The Herald,

Press & Journal, Forres Gazette, and BBC News Scotland.

Crofters Commission

Creating a new brand and promotional material.

Challenge

The Crofting Commission approached us to rebrand their organisation. The new brand

had to be rolled out over all applications from Annual Reports, website, signage

advertising and general day to day items like stationery, leaflets etc. The challenge was to

create a new younger more dynamic brand for the organisation but still retain the values

of the Crofters Commission.

Strategy

A variety of promotional material was used as the target market is wide and varied and

therefore had to have a wide appeal. The Wee Agency produced a coherent brand

throughout the promotional material to showcase the range or help and advice available

to members. The website is underpinned with an easy to navigate web build and

processes that make access easier.

Results

The new brand for Crofting Commission flows throughout website and marketing

materials, including brochures, signage, websites etc. The Crofting Commission is

secure in the knowledge that The Wee Agency has background technical support and

the website content is backed-up. The Crofting Commission has a stronger brand, with

The Wee Agency providing on and offline support.

Mackenzie Investment Strategies

Creating a luxurious new brand and website to attractnew business for Mackenzie Financial Strategies

Challenge

Chartered financial planners Mackenzie Investment Strategies wanted to expand within

the North of Scotland. The company required new branding and a new website as they

wanted a fresh approach to attract new business.

Strategy

The Wee Agency created a new website for Mackenzie Investment Strategies along

with a complete new brand, including logo, promotional materials and stationery.

We discussed what the most effective content for the website would be before

providing copy that used language reflecting the company’s values. As chartered

financial planners, it was important to convey a sense of trust which was achieved

through featuring client testimonials on the website, promotional materials and by

creating a sophisticated and luxurious website/brand. It was also important that the

website was easy to navigate and provided the information clients need in a

clear and concise way.

Results

The new brand was rolled out across the website, brochures, signage, stationery and

even on the wallpaper of the Mackenzie Investment Strategies office. The website is easy

to navigate and is a clear and informative resource for clients. The website has received

great feedback and Mackenzie Investment Strategies have secured a major new client

within weeks of its launch.

Ready Steady Gallop

Generating buzz and increasing sponsorship opportunities for a public art event in aid of charity

Challenge

The Wee Agency was asked to use PR and social media to generate a buzz and

increase sponsorship opportunities for Ready Steady Gallop; a public art event which

saw 25 lifesize fibreglass horse sculptures and 30 of their ‘foals’ around the town of

Hamilton to raise funds for the Kilbryde Hospice.

Strategy

The Wee Agency carried out a PR campaign to engage the local community and

encourage businesses to sponsor the horses. In addition to PR around the launch

of Ready Steady Gallop, a call for sponsors and promoting use of a mobile app,

The Wee Agency launched a #thehorse competition to run alongside a new series of

The Voice on BBC One. The competition was promoted on social media pages and

asked followers to suggest names for one of the 25 horses.

Other social media activity included a #RSGselfie competition, encouraging users to

take selfies with the horses and share online to be in with a chance of winning prizes.

Results

The social media campaigns resulted in higher levels of engagment and attracted new

‘likes’ and followers to the Facebook and Twitter pages. The campaign also generated

coverage in outlets such as BBC News Online, the Scottish Daily Mail, Glasgow Evening

Times, The Sunday Post, Yours Magazine, The Sun, Woman’s Weekly, The Herald,

Scotland on Sunday, Sunday Express, Business Scotland, Hamilton Advertiser,

Lanark & Carluke Advertiser and STV News.

Connage Highland Dairy

Creating an efficient and effective e-commerce website

Challenge

Having been let down by a previous supplier, Connage Highland Dairy wanted to work

with a reliable leading company to produce its new e-commerce website. It was also

important to Connage that whoever produced and hosted the new website had

background technical support.

Strategy

The Wee Agency created a new brand for Connage with consistent design throughout

the new website and marketing material. The website presents Connage’s products in

an appealing way, making it easy for users to navigate and buy products. Sage pay was

introduced to the website to give a secure way for customers to pay - and also allows

for easy accounting and processing of orders for Connage.

Results

The new brand for Connage flows throughout website and marketing materials, including

brochures. The website design is user-friendly and allows customers to make purchases

without much effort. Connage Highland Dairy is secure in the knowledge that The Wee

Agency has background technical support and the website content is backed-up.

Employee Relations Institute

Bradford University Management School post-graduate course

Challenge

We were asked to launch a new employee relations establishment, the Employee

Relations Institute (ERI) and a post-graduate course being delivered through Bradford

University School of Management which would attract interest from the HR and

employee engagement industries culminating in an event to be held at the House

of Commons.

Strategy

We established relationships with key industry titles, i.e. HR Magazine, HR Zone and

Customer Engagement Network, as well as national broadcast journalists to secure

coverage of the launch and the aims of the institute and course. Interviews with board

members were offered to a wide range of media outlets and we developed a range of

news hooks and pitch angles, including the issue of bullying in the workplace.

Results

Over the pre-launch and post launch period, we achieved over 23 pieces of stand-out

coverage in industry titles and national broadcast. We arranged for Jan Parkinson, Chief

Executive of the ERI to go on ITV Daybreak to speak with Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones

about workplace bullying in the UK. We also secured an interview for Jan Parkinson on

BBC Scotland. The launch itself saw the institute immediately meet its objectives of

founder member and member applications, and Bradford University reported a peak in

enquiries regarding the post-graduate course.

Energy North

Designing and building a new website for thevoice of energy in the North of Scotland and Islands

Challenge

Energy North, a not-for-profit trade group of over 200 members in the Oil & Gas,

Renewable Energy and Nuclear markets throughout Scotland, required The Wee Agency

to design and build them a new website. Their previous offering was very dated and had

a poorly functioning back-end resulting in the site not being kept up-to-date.

Strategy

The main objective of the new site was to create a site with great user-functionality.

Our team designed a new website with a modern and clean look to bring the site up to

date and which could be easily updated. The previous website did not cope well with

event-booking so a key part of the new design was to make all the events easy to

access from the front page. Our team took a strategic approach with clear

calls-to-action on the homepage, ensuring that the ‘Member Search’ and ‘Join Us’

sections were clearly visible to website visitors.

Results

The website is now much easier to use so the team at Energy North can keep the site

updated with all the latest news from the energy industry. Users can book events on the

website at the click of a button and can easily navigate through each page of the website.

Now the voice of energy in the North of Scotland really has something to shout about.

Moray Offshore Renewables

A new approach to branding and website designto spark interest and attract new customers

Challenge

Moray Offshore Renewables desired a new approach to its branding and a new

website to share their vision of generating offshore wind in the North Sea, to gain

interest in the project and attract new customers. They wanted a clean and easy to

understand website that they would be able to update whenever required.

Strategy

Having discussed the constantly changing and developing nature of the business, we

concluded that the website would need updating on a regular basis with news and PDFs

to keep the public informed on plans and proposals. We designed a custom document

library enabling Moray Offshore Renewables to upload content at any time.

A 12-page brochure, pop up and exhibition system were designed to enable Moray

Offshore Renewables to visit trade events. Due to the importance of the project, it was

vital not only to provide a sophisticated website but one that was clean and easy to read.

The design would allow clients and the public to navigate quickly and efficiently through

their proposals, plans and other documents.

Results

The final website has a clean and simple layout allowing the content to take centre

stage to provide clients with an informative resource. The website has received a great

deal of feedback and proves insightful for both the general public and potential clients.

The entire brand including website and promotional material has allowed Moray

Offshore Renewables to communicate with a wider audience.

ERG Scotland

Creating a new brand for a family-run business

Challenge

ERG Scotland was expanding into new premises and wanted to improve upon its

previous brand and website. The Wee Agency was tasked with creating a website,

signage and promotional materials with a coherent and appealing brand.

Strategy

The Wee Agency redesigned ERG website's look and updated the content. Copy was

rewritten to convey details in a clear and informative way. The website redesign had to

integrate with the new corporate brand and to reflect the qualities of ERG; showing it is a

reliable, trustworthy and family run business. It was also important for the website to act

as an exciting showcase for the range of products and services available from ERG.

Results

The Wee Agency created a completely new brand for ERG, from website to marketing

material. Signage was designed for ERG’s new premises and exhibition material; including

pop-ups, allowing ERG to promote itself at trade and consumer events. Vehicle livery

was designed to act as an eye-catching advert for the business. ERG’s new premises are

going from strength to strength with events being organised to encourage potential new

customers to visit the showroom.

Energy Now Expo

Showcasing renewable energy optionsto farmers and landowners

Challenge

2013 saw the fourth annual Energy Now Expo, an event to showcase renewable energy

options to farmers and landowners. The nature of the event means that visitors usually

only attend the event once and don’t return the following year. The challenge was to

attract new visitors to attend whilst also encouraging previous visitors to come to the

event and discover the ever growing number of renewable energy options available.

Strategy

The Wee Agency focused on two tactical plans to drive awareness of the expo;

carrying out a survey into the future of farming and renewable energy and running a

young farmer competition. We believed that the target market should be the young

generation of farmers who may be open to discovering new methods to bring in profit.

Young farmers’ clubs and organisations, regional & national and agriculture press were

all targeted, whilst we also implemented social media to promote the competition.

Results

We achieved substantial coverage across agriculture, renewable and regional

broadcast and print media – 63 pieces of coverage were generated. All coverage was

overwhelmingly positive, supporting the expo and its aims. Coverage was achieved in

outlets such as Farmers Guardian, BBC Cumbria, Shropshire Star, The Farmer and

Farming Scotland – all key media outlets for engaging with the target audience. The

event surpassed required visitor numbers making 2013 a record breaking year for

Energy Now Expo and following this success we were asked to provide PR for the

2014 event.

Edinburgh International Culture Summit

Communicating key messages to a wide audiencethrough creative social media

Challenge

The Edinburgh International Culture Summit is an event where Culture Ministers,

artists, thinkers and arts leaders from around the world come together to share ideas

and discuss the power, position and profile of the arts, culture and creative industries.

The Wee Agency provided Edinburgh International Culture Summit with social media

support to help the key messages of the event to be disseminated to a wider audience.

Strategy

The Wee Agency led on Twitter activity from Edinburgh International Culture Summit.

Posts promoted the key themes of the Summit and announced details of the event

using the hashtag #CultureSummit. Speakers were announced and interacted with

using their Twitter handles.

The Wee Agency followed and interacted with other accounts tweeting about culture.

#CultureHour was also created to encourage Twitter users to get involved and discuss

and share ideas around promoting culture. This took place once a month on the

run-up to the Culture Summit to generate further interest in the event.

The Wee Agency also ‘live tweeted’ from the event on 10th-12th August 2014 to give

running updates on the speakers and their key discussions and retweeting mentions

from other attendees.

Results

The Edinburgh International Culture Summit Twitter account grew from 396 followers

to over 1,000 in the three months The Wee Agency worked on the project, surpassing

the target number of followers.

The Hunter Foundation

Encouraging voters to download an impartial e-Book onthe Scottish independence referendum

Challenge

Sir Tom Hunter, Scottish entrepreneur and philanthropist, tasked The Wee Agency with

designing and building a new website as well as providing PR and social media support

to Scotland September 18. The main objective was to increase the number of people

downloading the Scotland September 18 eBook, an impartial document which to help

voters make a decision in the Scottish independence referendum.

Strategy

The eBook on the previous website was hard to find so our design team made sure

that the link was clearly visible on the homepage. We also worked with a projections

company to develop giant images of key political figures alongside questions in

relation to the referendum debate which were projected onto iconic building across

the capital city.

Our social media experts used Facebook and Twitter to drive traffic to the website

and to encourage followers to download the eBook. We encouraged engagement by

posting compelling content such as videos, excerpts of the eBook and press coverage.

Results

A new website was designed and built within a week of receiving the brief with clear

calls to action on the homepage to download the eBook, a total of over 80,000 eBooks

were downloaded up until the 18th September. We secured press coverage for

Sir Tom Hunter in The Times, The Guardian, The Herald, The Telegraph, Daily Express,

Daily Mail and international coverage including The New York Times, as well as TV

and radio interviews on BBC News, BBC News 24, BBC News at 10 and Radio 5 live.

Cawdor Castle

Creating a new responsive website to bring this14th century castle’s website into the 21st century

Challenge

Cawdor Castle wanted a new website designed and built as their current offering was

outdated and was driving little traffic. They wanted a well-designed website which was

user friendly so that visitors could find the information they needed quickly.

Strategy

The Wee Agency carried out a strategic audit of the Cawdor Castle website and it was

clear that it contained too much information resulting in users finding it difficult to

navigate. Our design team carried out an entire re-work of the website, deleting all

unnecessary information and getting straight to the point. We took a new approach to

the use of photos on the website and kept video shots to a minimum – just enough to

give a sense of the castle and to entice visitors to want to visit for more. Our team

built SEO into the copy of the website, using key words and meta-tag data so that the

website appears higher up in search engine results. A new events and news facility was

created so that Cawdor Castle can update visitors on the latest news and events.

Results

Feedback from Cawdor Castle Garden Members, who visit the castle on a regular

basis, has been very favourable. Website users can now clearly see the events page

in a very simple calendar form and see what is coming up in the next few months.

The site is now much more secure than it was before the re-design and it is also

responsive – giving a user friendly website experience to all visitors, including

smartphone and tablet users.

Aromantic Ltd.

Creating a fresh new look for theorganic and natural beauty retailer’s website

Challenge

The Wee Agency were tasked with designing and building a complex e-commerce

website for Aromantic Ltd, a business which provides organic and natural ingredients

and courses to make your own skin, hair and beauty products. The previous website

looked dated so required a modern new look and high-quality technical support.

Strategy

Our creative team designed a crisp, fresh look for the website. The new site has

improved navigation features and a de-cluttering of pages so users have direct access

to what they are looking for. The department pages for products provide users with

options to purchase products directly or to gain further information, ensuring a quick

ordering provision for returning customers and detailed information for new visitors.

The Wee Agency’s web developers trained Aromantic staff how to update the website

so they can now advertise courses, promotions and products in a single area through

our powerful and easy to use content management system.

Results

The new website is a dramatic improvement from the previous outdated site and gives

users a much friendlier online experience. Products are clearly displayed and the site is

responsive – ensuring that the website looks just as impressive on smartphones and

tablets as it does on a computer screen.

Swansons Fruit Company

Streamlining service delivery and reducingordering system error

Challenge

Swansons Fruit Company provides fruit and vegetables to schools across the

Highlands; however, the ordering system to do so was inefficient, requiring a great deal

of man-power and increasing the number of errors. The Wee Agency was tasked with

providing a solution to automate the ordering process to streamline the service and

reduce error.

Strategy

The Wee Agency produced software that integrated with the Scottish Government’s

PECOS system to allow schools to create orders easily which would then be entered

into Swansons Sage accounts. Swansons had specific business requirements that had

to be taken into account when designing the solution to ensure that the operational

impact of the automated system returned on the investment.

Results

After observing the effectiveness of the software and fine-tuning to ensure the system

was working efficiently, the system was ready to be used by schools across the

Highlands. The system has succeeded in reducing the operational work load of staff at

Swansons with the company already planning the rollout into other major customers

across Scotland. The software has been working accurately and reliably, allowing easy

placement of orders. Although the system was designed for Swansons, it could even be

extended or adapted for different users.

Music Fidelity

Using creative marketing and PR to reach the mass market for a range of high-end headphones

Challenge

Musical Fidelity, a well-respected British Hi-Fi specialist, launched its first range of

headphones in the UK and brought in The Wee Agency to generate interest from the

technology and consumer press.

Strategy

We placed the headphones with journalists at a variety of tech, lifestyle, luxury and

national publications, emphasising the fact that these are not your standard in-ear

headphones, but coupled with stylish design and phenomenal sound. We adjusted

our pitches in time with special events such as Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day and
