YEAR 5 VISIT TO PRESCHOOL
Last Tuesday, Year 5 paid a special visit to the preschool as part of the Kinder transition program aimed at helping to ensure our Kindergarten students for 2019 make a smooth transition into 'big school'. Lots of fun and games was had whilst the staff from preschool and school began working together to 'buddy up' pairs of big kids and little kids based on individual needs, new and existing relationships and other factors.

ROBOTICS
All classes have now had a chance to use some new robotics equipment this term as part of the STEM SHARE program in which various robotics and technology sets are loaned to public schools across NSW for a term at a time. Last week students in K,1 and 2 were challenged to write their initials in large clear print and then add coloured codes that allow 'Ozobots' to navigate their letters from top left to bottom right. Stage 3 students also used Ozobots during Maths groups to learn about fractions by dividing a track up into various fractions and adding codes to direct their robots along planned sections of the tracks. Meanwhile 5/6E have been busily building and programming their very own smart cars with self-driving and auto detection technology using Lego EV3 sets. All students have been very eager to complete set tasks and are developing crucial problem solving skills and critical thinking along the way.
ALEXIS-DAWN ENTERTAINS AT ASSEMBLY
Alexis-Dawn from Kindergarten has been learning to play the violin since she was 3 years old! On Friday she shared her exceptional talent with us at our weekly assembly, playing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’

SWIMMING FOR SPORT K-2
Wednesday this week will be the last day of Swimming for Sport for Years K-2. All of the students have been having a super time in the pool! It has been the perfect lead up to our Intensive Swimming Program that will begin on Monday of Week 5. Students have already shown improvement in their confidence and skills in the water. Teachers and students have enjoyed cooling off in the pool and having lots of fun too!
SWIMMING SCHEME YEARS K-6
**IMPORTANT** The CHPS Swimming Scheme begins next week on Monday 12th November. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in this program. This swimming program will assess each individual’s current swimming competence and place them into groups that will enable them to build on and strengthen these competencies. Therefore, this program is designed to assist both the less confident swimmer as well as more confident swimmers. Even if your child is a competent swimmer there is still plenty to learn from going to this swimming program. Instructors discuss all areas of water safety and run through effective swimming techniques for emergency situations. The aim for competent swimmers is to build on their swimming strength, endurance and techniques as we are surrounded by beautiful beaches, rivers, creeks, dams and pools.
We wish to remind parents and carers of students participating in the Kinder and Year 1 Swim Scheme that students with a Fitness Pass or Season Ticket are still required to pay the $20 instruction fee. The Fitness Pass and Season Ticket cover the pool entry for the ten days of this program.
Please return notes and payments asap to enable your child to head into summer with water confidence and strength.

COASTAL CHIC ARTSHOW
With the Coastal Chic Art Show just two weeks away we would like to remind families of the following:
• We require volunteers to help out on Sunday 18th November manning the cake stall, cupcake decorating, selling raffle tickets, face painting and other jobs as they arise. If you are able to volunteer some time please fill in the section on the note that was sent home and send it back to school.
• We are also asking for donations of home baked goods for our cake stall. Please deliver baked goods with a list of ingredients to CHPS between 9 and 10am on Sunday 18th.
• Art classes will be held at the Family Day on Sunday 18th. Classes will be of 1 hour duration and run throughout the day. Professional instruction will be given by local Gladstone artist Elizabeth MacDonald. Cost is $12 per child. Fill in the slip on the Art Show note and return it to school. There will be 8-10 students per class so be quick to secure your spot.
• Entries for the Junior Art Competition are now open. Submissions will be judged by a local artist at the show. Please submit entries to the school office no later than Monday 12th November. Don't forget to include name and class on the artwork.
Tickets are still available for this fantastic event. To purchase tickets or books kid’s art classes please contact Karly Edwards on 0478 228 302 or CHPS office on 65660255. All entries and ticket sales must be submitted and purchased by Monday 12th November. Don’t miss out on what will be a fun filled weekend. A copy of the note sent home with students is on the CHPS website under the notes tab.
SCHOOL CAPTAIN ELECTIONS
Next Monday will mark the start of our 2019 School Captains Elections with the nominations being declared open. This year we will be doing these nominations differently. Our 2019 Year 6 group is quite unusual in that the girls outnumber the boys in a more than 2 to 1 ratio. For this reason we are going to elect 4 "School Leaders" and 2 "SRC Representatives" for next year instead of 2 Captains, (one boy, one girl), 2 Vice Captains and 2 SRC Representatives. This will give both girls and boys an equal opportunity to become an elected representative of our student leadership team. Nominations will be evaluated by our teachers and approved by the Principal on the basis of our future school leaders continued efforts to be 5C students. These will be announced at our Monday morning assembly on 19th November. Good luck to all our 2019 Year 6 Captains hopefuls.
MUSIC COUNT US IN LAST THURSDAY
CHPS students performed brilliantly for Music Count Us In last Thursday. The whole school learnt ‘One Song’ and participated in this Australia wide event.
