Carla Harris has such a vast array of accomplishments that it’s difficult to fully capture her essence in a brief description.

Foremost, she’s a leader who has broken many glass ceilings. As a vice chairman of global wealth management, managing director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley, she is responsible for increasing client connectivity and penetration to enhance revenue generation across the firm.

She’s also an accomplished singer who has delighted audiences around the world with her soulful renditions of new and old gospel favorites. She has performed sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall and released several albums (“Carla’s First Christmas,” “Joy is Waiting,” “Unceasing Praise”).

And she’s also an author and inspiring speaker. “Carla’s Pearls” – the valuable lessons she’s learned through her successes and failures – have become the centerpiece for her many speeches and television appearances. In her 2014 book, “Strategize to Win,” she offers career advice to help readers get started, get “unstuck” from bad situations, redirect momentum, and position themselves to manage their careers no matter the environment.

Harris received an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB in economics from Harvard University.

2:15 pm – 5 pm LEARNING EXCURSIONSAll learning excursions depart from the Hyatt Regency Bellevue unless otherwise noted.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters Tour SPEAKER:Sharon Loveland, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Seattle is home to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters, which serves as the center for its work in global health, global development, global policy and advocacy.

At 640,000 square feet, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation campus originally replaced a 12-acre asphalt parking lot in downtown Seattle and is now the largest non-profit LEED-NC Platinum project in the world. Its conservation strategies reduce potable water use by 80 percent and energy consumption by 40 percent — an upfront investment in this 100-year, energy-efficient building that will pay for itself in fewer than 30 years.

The campus enables its workforce to focus on its mission: giving all people a chance to live healthy and productive lives. A combination of design research, workshops and prototyping resulted in the creation of a 40/60 closed/open workplace strategy. Its design objectives included creating a healthy and connected workplace for all staff, and increasing collaboration within the foundation and with its external grantee partners.

In this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the offices and learn about the location planning, office design and construction process of the campus.

Visitors must bring a government-issued photo ID.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES Sponsored by Skanska

All leisure activities depart from the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.

9 am – 3 pm Seattle City Highlights Tour Visit the city’s must-see attractions, famous landmarks and beautiful sights, all in one tour! The adventure begins with a brief tour of Bellevue before crossing a floating bridge to downtown Seattle. You’ll view Seattle’s International District and historic Pioneer Square, which is Seattle’s oldest residential area. Next, you’ll drive along the bustling Elliott Bay Waterfront, viewing the maritime activities, piers, ferry docks and more.

You’ll stop at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (Ballard Locks) and watch as boats travel between the saltwater of the Puget Sound and the freshwater of the ship canal that connects to Lake Union and Lake Washington. Another highlight of this stop will be the fish ladder, where you can look through glass panels to view salmon as they navigate their way through the ladder, adjusting to different levels of salt as they pass between fresh and saltwater.

Following the locks, you’ll continue your scenic drive through some of Seattle’s best neighborhoods, learning about life in Seattle, the cost of housing and other fun facts.

The next stop will be the nine-acre historic district of Pike Place Market, which opened in 1907 and has been a vital part of Seattle’s social and economic fabric for more than 100 years. Enjoy contemporary Northwest cuisine during the group lunch at Cutters Crabhouse. Cutters’ hospitality, professional service and genuine guest care has made it a local icon for more than 30 years. And the scenery is spectacular, too – from the restaurant, you can see Elliott Bay, Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains and the Port of Seattle.

Your final stop will be at Seattle’s most famous landmark, the Space Needle. Created for the 1962 World’s Fair, it stands 605 feet tall and boasts fabulous 360-degree views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, and more.

9:30 am – 2:30 pm Washington Wine Tasting Tour The state of Washington is the second largest wine producer in the United States and is ranked among the world’s top wine regions. In this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Woodinville, a small community nestled in the Sammamish River Valley just 15 minutes from Bellevue that has become a haven for fine winemakers. Here, you’ll enjoy tastings at the Chateau Ste. Michelle, DeLille Cellars, and Novelty Hill | Januik wineries.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is an award-winning winery regularly voted as one of the top 10 wineries in the United States. It’s also Washington’s founding winery, with some of the oldest and most acclaimed vineyards in the Columbia Valley. It is here that winemaker Bob Bertheau makes his award-winning white wines. After learning about the art and science of wine-making and tasting exceptional wines, there will be time to visit the extensive wine and gift shop.

DeLille Cellars is a boutique artisan winery founded in 1992 by Charles and Greg Lill, Jay Soloff and winemaker Chris Upchurch. The mission at DeLille Cellars has always been to create a new Bordeaux blend using Washington state vineyards. In 1992, the winery pioneered its Chaleur Estate Rouge and D2, both blends of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. Their belief is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. “Taste” if you agree!

You’ll then travel to Purple Café for lunch, where you’ll find an urban retreat accented with rustic elements. Both hues and posh accents adorn the semiprivate room, where you’ll enjoy your delicious group lunch.

After lunch, enjoy a final wine tasting at Novelty Hill | Januik, two independent wineries that share a tasting room and production facility. Here you’ll sample wines from distinguished winemaker Mike Januik, who was recently named one of the world’s 10 “Masters of Merlot” by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Before he started his own winery in 1999, Januik was head winemaker at Chateau Ste. Michelle for 10 years and has been producing wine in the Columbia Valley since 1984.
