From the Principal __________________________

Dear Parents and Friends of Crossmaglen Public School,

Our school continues to be a vibrant learning space - the energy levels are high as the children

and staff continue in the joy of learning. Our students are beginning to understand

themselves as learners in an informed way - and I look forward to watching our students grow

and flourish.

Director, Educational Leadership Visit

Last Thursday I had a meeting with our Director, Educational Leadership for the Mid Coast

Valleys, Sue Brown. These Leadership and Managements are a tremendous opportunity for Sue

to discuss the operations at Crossmaglen and for her to also meet our wonderful students. We

also looked at the evidence of how are students in our school are known, valued and cared for.

Best Start Kindergarten Professional Learning

Last week Miss Blayney attended the Day 2 Best Start Kindergarten Professional Learning.

This day enabled Miss Blayney to analyse our information - by looking at student strengths,

identify patterns and find a starting point to effectively plan for literacy and numeracy. I

look forward to the implementation of this targeted teaching.

Yellow day was a Shining Success

Our yellow day was surrounded by Sid the Seagull and the 5 SunSmart steps: Slip, Slop, Slap,

Seek and Slide. We will continue to partner with SunSmart in promoting sun protection

messages.

Have a wonderful week 5.

The Big Vegie Crunch _________________________

What is The Big Vegie Crunch?

Only around 5% of NSW children eat enough vegetables. To help our community do better, our school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch (part of Vegetable Week) at 10am on Thursday 4th April. Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables simultaneously. Last year 50,260 students crunched together. What can you do to help?

● Pack a container of vegetables (not fruit this time) for your child to eat on Thursday 4th April

● Keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes!

If you require more information on what activities our school is doing over Vegetable Week, please contact the school or your child’s teacher.

Sensory Movie Days

Sensory Movie Day is an inclusive event for families/carers with special needs children and adults. Siblings and extended family members are welcome to come along too and all tickets are only $6 each (children under 2 are free).

Families with Special Needs children/adults can take their child/adult to the movies knowing they are free to move around the cinema and make a noise, stim and be themselves. Lights are dimmed (not completely dark), movie volume is lowered and exits are manned.

Parents/carers are still responsible for their child/adult but volunteers will man the exits to ensure nobody leaves without their carer/guardian. The movie will also start at the advertised time so there isn’t half an hour of ads/previews to sit through before the movie even starts. For more information, please go to our facebook page (Sensory Movie Day Coffs Harbour), and ‘like’ it to keep up to date, or send an email to [email protected] Michelle Anthony Local Coordinator Sensory Movie Day Coffs Harbour

Kids in the Kitchen ___________________________

Last week

Group 1 cooked (on a BBQ) Chicken and Honey Skewers. The threading onto the stick was completed with precision.

Group 2 made coconut rice and then a blueberry, banana and strawberry

smoothie.

Group 3 made a Blueberry Crumble - this was a delicious dessert.

Group 4 made blueberry bliss balls - they did a

tremendous task ensuring the balls were

the same size and coated in coconut.
