Shopping Shopping is on the top of the to-do list in Melbourne. You can’t beat Melbourne’s major department stores and shopping centres for the biggest and best choice of international designers. Visit old favourites Myer and David Jones, the newest, Emporium Melbourne and the largest, Chadstone. Find a bargain at DFO South Wharf or Harbour Town Shopping Centre at Docklands. Shop til you drop in arcades and laneways brimming with designer boutiques and fashion houses.

visitmelbourne.com/shopping

Food and WineCity streets and laneways are filled with restaurants, bars, cafés, and who could forget the fabulous riverside venues that hum with activity. Melbourne’s food and wine scene is constantly evolving with new venues opening on a weekly basis. Multicultural influences can be found throughout, from Mediterranean and French dishes to South-East Asian and Japanese flavours and most recently a wave of Mexican and tapas venues. Relax with a cup of freshly ground specialty coffee or a long lunch after a morning of shopping. Whatever your pick, Melbourne will serve up something magical.

visitmelbourne.com/food

OutdoorsParks, gardens and vast open spaces located neatly in the city centre make it easy to relax and enjoy the fresh air. visitmelbourne.com/outdoors

WildlifeVictoria’s fascinating native wildlife includes kangaroos, koalas, wombats, platypus, echidnas and lovable little penguins. You can watch an extensive collection of native animals at the Melbourne Zoo or alternatively head to Healesville Sanctuary in the Yarra Valley, Moonlit Sanctuary on the Mornington Peninsula or Ballarat Wildlife Park (all within 1-1.5 hour drive from Melbourne). Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges 1 – 1½ hours from Melbourne

The Yarra Valley is home to Victoria’s earliest vineyards. Numerous wineries provide cellar-door sales and tastings of hand-crafted wines, and have restaurants serving gourmet food and fine local produce. A visit to Healesville Sanctuary will allow you to see native Australian wildlife in natural surroundings and experience some Aboriginal culture.

There are a great variety of options for shore excursions within a ninety minute drive from Melbourne. The state’s compact size means its unique and varied landscapes are easily accessible.

EXPLORE REGIONAL VICTORIA IN A DAY

Mornington Peninsula 1 – 2 hours from Melbourne

The Mornington Peninsula is dotted with historic seaside villages. Visit stylish Sorrento, take a stroll along the picturesque harbour of Mornington and stop at the charming nineteenth century fishing hamlet of Flinders. A trip to nearby Cape Schanck will provide superb views of Bass Strait. Soak up at the Peninsula Hot Springs, ride a horse, play a round of golf and indulge in an abundance of local wine and produce.

Daylesford & The Macedon Ranges 1½ hours from Melbourne

Flock to the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country to enjoy Australia’s largest concentration of mineral springs, scenic surroundings, a thriving arts and craft community, and award-winning food and wine. Revive and indulge in a luxurious spa bath and massage or enjoy many of the region’s towns and attractions such as the Convent Gallery or the Lavandula lavender farm.

Geelong & the Bellarine Peninsula 1 – 2 hours from Melbourne

Geelong takes full advantage of its unique north-facing bay with fabulous waterfront eateries, landscaped gardens and walking paths set against the backdrop of Corio Bay. Stroll past the sculptured bollards dotted along the foreshore that chronicle characters from the city’s past and present. Geelong is also the major gateway to the Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road.

Goldfields 1½ – 2 hours from Melbourne

Grand nineteenth-century buildings grace the streetscapes of Ballarat and Bendigo, while townships like Maldon and Castlemaine wear their goldrush heritage on their sleeves. Sovereign Hill, a living outdoor museum, recreates a goldmining town and the life of its people in the 1850s, a must see for all visitors.

Fine food and wine, outstanding art galleries and extensive parklands and gardens complement the Goldfields experience.

Phillip Island 1½ – 2 hours from Melbourne

Phillip Island is famed for seeing Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. It is home to a colony of little penguins that make their way from the sea up Summerland Beach to their burrows every day at dusk. Australia’s largest colony of fur seals, koalas and a large population of mutton birds and migratory water birds also live on the island. Ideally your ship will be staying overnight or depart late at night to allow you to witness the penguin parade at dusk.

The Great Ocean Road 3 – 5 hours from Melbourne

The iconic Great Ocean Road winds westwards from the major regional city of Geelong to the South Australian border. One of the most visited stretches of road is the Port Campbell National Park, home to the Twelve Apostles, remarkable limestone rock stacks rising from the ocean.

Experiencing the Great Ocean Road requires a minimum of two days/one night. If you are short of time, you can still have a taste of it by joining an express bus tour or a charter plane or helicopter tour.
