Have you started your taxes yet? If you
itemize, your tuition is deductible for
Wisconsin state taxes! Using averages, that
should be about 6% of $2000 or about $120 in
your pocket. You can request this
information from the church office to use of
this deduction. Please contact the church
office for further information. We have a new K4 Extension program this year. Students in the three-day or five-day K4 program can extend into the afternoon, similar to the Tosa public school “K4 wraparound” program. Our program will be taught by elementary teachers from our school. For more information please call. Congratulations to the Basketball teams for their success in the tournament this last weekend. Girls took 2nd and boys took 3rd. Monday night is a call meeting at 6:30 for a 5th grade teacher for next school year. Please plan to be there.

Piano Lessons Please check to see that your students are looking in
their folders each week for their assignments. I tell
them it's good practice to set their folder up every time
they practice, just to make sure they don't forget
anything on their list.
February payments will be due soon. Please make
sure January payments have been made. You can
always check the balance in your student's folder.
The kids are making fabulous progress. What a joy
to watch them grow!

listen for St. John’s, Wauwatosa, there are many St. John’s
within the counties. Note: If school is closed due to
inclement weather, St. John’s Childcare is also closed!
Lost & Found Often times there are items in the Lost & Found that
people don’t even realize they are missing, so be sure to
check St. John’s Lost & Found bins on a regular basis.
Lower Level: We have a “Lost and Found” bin for the
lower level. It is located next to the door leading out to the
playground. All items left in childcare or anywhere on the
lower level will be placed in this bin.
Main Level: Lost & Found items can regularly be found in
the “Lost & Found” bin which is located in the southwest
corner of the commons, just past the Athletic Trophy case.

If your child attends after school care and will be
participating in wrestling this season, please let
childcare know by sending us an email at
[email protected]. After the initial notification
you will only need to notify Childcare if they will not
be in childcare because of a match or if you would
like them released to go to practice from childcare. If
we do not get an email we will not release them for
practices or matches until we are notified by a parent
that they are participating in wrestling. Also, if they
don’t come to childcare on their scheduled day and we
weren’t notified then a “No Show” fee will be applied
for each day they were scheduled to be in after school
care until we are notified by a parent. Questions:
Please email or call Leigh Ann Treichel at
[email protected] or 258-4214, ext.81.
Childcare can use some shoeboxes for a craft, nothing

K3 News
God made many fascinating sea creatures. The
children practiced number recognition while reading
our story song book, Somewhere in the Ocean, which
also introduced them to new sea animals. This week
we have focused on large sea animals. We read books
about whales, sharks, and dolphins. We learned that
the octopus is very clever, and the jellyfish is
luminous. We painted beautiful rainbow fish and gave
them shimmering scales, just like the fish in the book,
The Rainbow Fish.
The children continue to pretend in our doctor
office/pharmacy. They also enjoy the hospital play set
in the discovery center. Many new fishing games help
the children review colors, numbers, patterns, and
letters and keep them quite busy while supporting their
fine motor skill development!
In our Bible lesson, “Jesus Heals a Paralyzed
Man”, Jesus showed that He is God’s Son and has the
power to heal and to forgive sins. We learned I Peter
5:7, “God cares for you.” We are learning a song
version of “The Lord’s Prayer”, as well as some parts
of the liturgy. It will be exciting for your children
when they realize they can join in with some of the
songs the congregation sings during the church
service.
~Mrs. Henning
Forensics Volunteers The forensic season for the 5th & 6th graders is
around the corner! The students are being introduced
to forensics in class with Mrs. Rindfleisch. Since this
is their first or second experience with forensics, it is
important for them to have coaching and practice.
Therefore, I’m looking for 6 enthusiastic volunteers
who like to hang out with 5th and 6th graders. You
need to be willing to help the students practice by
listening to their selections and offer feedback. This
would take place during the school day for 4 or 5
weeks starting of Feb. 5 thru March 9. Can you offer
30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour or more of your time
per week to help the students? You can pick the time
of day that works for you after 9am. I need 6
awesome volunteers! Please contact Mrs. Henning
([email protected]) if you are able to help
support our students in this way. Thanks!
Mission Trip 2018 Registration
Information Now that Christmas is over, many families are making
summer plans. Our church family is no exception, and one
major event over the summer is our annual teen mission
trip. To facilitate planning, we need to know how many
teens plan to go. Registrations are due January 31st. Here
are a few basic details. More information will be shared in
the weeks to come.
• Register for the Mission Trip by emailing Pastor
Bitter by January 31st.
• Paperwork and payment will be due at the end of
March.
• Volunteer Hours should be completed by the end of
May.
• Opportunities for service hours can be found at
www.sjtosa.org/youth
• Mission Trip Kickoff BBQ will be on Sunday, June
3rd.
• Mission Trip 2018 will be from Saturday July 7th
through Sunday July 15th.
• All three mission trips were successful last year, and
we intend to send groups to Rock Hill, Atlanta, and
Toronto again this summer.
• Parents who wish to be considered for chaperoning a
mission trip should email Pastor Bitter.
Blood Drive
Monday, Feb. 5 St. John’s blood drive, in
conjunction with the Blood
Center of Wisconsin, is set for
2:00-7:00 p.m. in the school
commons. In the winter
months, it can be more difficult for donors to get in and give
blood, and the blood supplies for our local hospitals fall
short this time of year. Please set up your appointment by
clicking here or on the clipboard sheets in the church
narthex to donate.
State Tax Deduction for Private School Tuition The state of Wisconsin allows you to deduct private
school tuition for K5-8th grade as well as high school. For
most families, preschool tuition may also be deductible in a
different category. Please check with your tax professional
for more details. These savings are not just for those who
itemize. To make use of this deduction you will need the
Federal ID number of St. John’s. The required Schedule PS
(with our school address and tax number filled in) is
available in the school office.
St. John’s 2017 Tuition Statements will be provided
for you upon request. Please contact Sharon in the church
office if you have questions regarding school tuition.
New Tax Law Helps with
Tuition On December 22, President Trump
signed into law a tax bill that benefits
thousands of families with children in religious and
independent schools. The new bill expands the use of 529
savings accounts so that families can withdraw up to
$10,000 a year tax free to use for "public, private, or
religious elementary or secondary school" expenses.
Currently, money invested in 529s can be used for college
expenses only. For more information, click here .
