From the Principal’s Desk

Greetings! Thanks to all those who met at Qdoba for food

and fellowship. It was a good time!

This week is Tornado Awareness week so we

will have a Tornado Drill as part of our school

day. Also, recent events in the Janesville area

remind us how important it is to practice school

“lock downs”. We will also run one of these

drills in the near future.

Many of you know that this is Mrs. Horton’s

last year teaching piano at our school. The last

couple of years we have added a second teacher.

Now we welcome Mrs. Janeen Roska, as she

joins Mrs. Sarah Bortulin, teaching piano lessons

at St. John’s. I asked Mrs. Roska to tell us about

herself. She writes:

Music has always been a passion of mine. I began

learning the piano the summer before fifth grade. I

began teaching piano lessons in the summer of

2010. During those years, I have taught at St.

Lucas Lutheran School and at Star of Bethlehem

Lutheran School—serving students from

kindergarten through high school. My family are

members at Living Water Lutheran Church in Wind

Lake, WI. There I serve as an organist, children’s

choir director, and am in the adult choir and the

handbell choir. I graduated from Wisconsin

Lutheran College with a degree in Elementary

Education and Early Childhood. One of my

favorite parts of teaching is seeing the sense of

accomplishment when a student successfully plays

something that had been a challenge for them.

Welcome Mrs. Roska! Sign-up for lessons next

year is under way. If you are interested, please

see the piano article on page 3 of the Chronicle.

Parents’ Preview The Parents’ Preview highlights an aspect of next week’s service: a liturgical song, a Psalm refrain, or a hymn stanza. Our hope and prayer is that parents will teach this portion of the service to their children at home during the week so that children can participate more fully in the worship service.

Parents’ Preview for April 23 :

“Glory to God” After receiving forgiveness in the absolution, the congregation

responds by praising the goodness of God and his eternal Word

in the Gloria. This refrain is based on the song of the angels on

the night of Jesus’ birth from Luke 2:14.

Parents’ Preview for April 30 :

“This is the Feast”

During the Easter season (Sundays through May 28 this year),

Christian Worship 265 serves as the song of praise after the

Confession of Sins. It is particularly appropriate to sing during

the Easter season as we celebrate the victory of Christ the Lamb

of God and look forward to his eternal heavenly reign.

St. John's Lends a Hand with Aquaponics in Zambia, Africa St. John’s students have partnered with students at Wisconsin Lutheran High School to raise money to set up an aquaponics system in Zambia, Africa. This program is aimed at bringing a new way to grow vegetables and at the same time bring fresh fish to the dinner table to villages in Africa. The money we collect will be used to set up a system at each of the schools and then have a reserve bank account for villages to draw from to help them set up their own systems. Through this, our schools and pastors can once again share the real bread of life to the villages of Zambia.

Thank you for participating in our special envelope collection and watch for additional support opportunities coming up.

May Food Pantry Donation Don't forget that St. John's kids are also supporting local mission work through non-perishable food donations to our food pantry. Mr. Leyrer’s 6th graders are the featured classroom next month, the weekend of May 6th and 7th.

K3 News This week K3 is learning about the fascinating world of insects. The children have enjoyed sorting a large collection of insect models as well as a memory game and bug bingo. We will hunt for specimens outside. We are also enjoying some of our springtime songs, “The Ants Go Marching” and “I’m Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee”. We’ve added birds and dragonflies to our hallway decorations. In our Bible lesson this week we learned that Jesus rose from the dead and will raise us also to live with Him in heaven. Like the women who first heard this happy Easter message, we rejoice and want to share this good news. We were privileged to do that last week in our two preschool Easter services. What a thrill it was for the children to sing in front of church. They all did very well and enjoyed the experience.
