Elements of Virtualization

Application virtualization

• Single application image is stored and managed centrally.

• Application data is stored and executed in the data center

• High level graphical information delivered to client machines over the

network.

Desktop virtualization

• Virtualization extended to entire desktops.

• Desktop virtualization is based on a single-image management

Server virtualization

• Single physical server to host multiple virtual machines running server-

class operating systems. A hypervisor decouples the virtual machines from

the underlying hardware, with virtualized servers behaving as if they were

dedicated physical servers.
